During the League of Women Voters debate a one liner by candidate Don Naples
was a home run out of the ball park when he commented "transparency is
needed with a voice of reason and not the partisan sheep who vote whatever the
mayor wants."
During the Mayoral debate Mayor O'Brien attempted to indicate that "New
Britain needs the Blue Back Square and the Farmington Mall in order to improve
New Britain." But, even after Erin Stewart waving her car tax bill for all
us to see, citing "that her car value went down but her tax increased
$100.00 this year."
The Mayor during his closing statement stated "after becoming mayor
resolving all the problems he inherited he was able to not increase taxes."
On my way out of the building a local business man stated to me. "
The nerve of this guy saying he did not increase taxes."
I politely replied to him "that his check book lied to him."

That debate was a crock. 20 minute mayoral debate. LWV should be ashamed.
ReplyDeleteYou could tell Erin was not a Democrat because the tax bill she showed was paid!
ReplyDeleteAny Mayor that had to read his comments as he spoke had the comments completely scripted before the debate started ... the debate was crooked, biased and professionally scripted - it was a complete rehearsed performance, complete with paid applauders.
ReplyDeleteSchroeder ate and drank non-stop through the whole thing - never took a note.
What a complete joke this "debate" was.
ReplyDeleteLWV should be embarrassed they hosted this ridiculous event. If all we wanted from O'Bumbles is sound bites, we could have just read The Herald!
Alderman Roy Centeno really embarrassed himself when he followed Don Naples' comment by saying Bah.
ReplyDeleteImplying that Don's remark was uncalled for when Don was on target to what is causing the city problems and its called Democrats.
I guess there were no questions about Aldermen being tax delinquents that someone could have said "Bah" to?

The New Britain Republican Town Committee should refuse to participate in these debates that are set up to favor the Democratic Ticket.
ReplyDeleteThe League of Women Voters and The Herald are both highly partisan organizations and they're dishonest to boot.
How was this in favor of the democratic ticket? They both received the same time allotment and questions. Both candidates had issues that they could have went after. They could have grilled Stewart on her support of bonding as a member of the BOE. They could have grilled OBrien on the landlord fees. Both candidates got a free pass in my opinion.
ReplyDeletethe LWV had already given the question to Mayor O'Bri8en he was reading his answers from a written document which was written by his handlers .
ReplyDeleteI amazing that the New Britain Herald would partake in this devious arrangement.
Hey O'Brien - how's our revenues to budget projections looking so far this year?? Are marriage license fees gonna pull the city out of the hole?!?
ReplyDeleteWhat a (bad) joke!
the problem with these debates is that they incumbent should have to defend their record and the challenger should talk about what they'd do differently. It doesn't make sense to ask them both the exact same questions.
