Bozek the "Republicrat"
DeFronzo vs. Bozek; not a difficult choice
Former Senator Thomas Bozek is back again. Bozek is a registered Democrat, but once again is running against his own party by running on the Republican ticket as a Democrat and claiming to be a GOOD DEMOCRAT while challenging his own party’s endorsed candidate.
Bozek’s only known campaign issue seems to be that he wants to reduce the amount of funding available for section 8 housing in New Britain—a program intended to help the poor and underprivileged. During these tough economic times, who in their right mind could argue for less public assistance for our poor or underprivileged citizens? This was the type of attitude that cost him the election the last time he ran against Senator DeFronzo. In that election, Bozek was threatening to eliminate the city’s public housing complexes. This time he is promising to eliminate section 8 funding which allows poor people to receive a federal rent subsidy to enable them to live in private housing while their landlords receive a rental payment from the federal government. In a recent article in The Berlin Citizen News, Bozek is even quoted as suggesting that these poor people be moved to Berlin or Farmington. He clearly feels that as Senator, he would better serve New Britain by forcing the poor out of New Britain, instead finding ways to help them.
Contrast this mean spirited attitude towards the poor, with the record of Senator Donald DeFronzo. Senator DeFronzo was a two-term mayor, probably the most popular mayor in recent memory. Senator DeFronzo has had a record of being a champion of helping the poor during his three terms as Senator and has in the past served as the president of a statewide labor union. Even better, Senator DeFronzo is endorsed by his own party! Clearly the choice for any Democrat is a simple one—Don DeFronzo for State Senate.
It is difficult to understand how Mr. Bozek is allowed to continue as a member of the Democratic Town Committee while opposing his own party’s endorsed candidate for Senate. Isn’t it about time for Democratic Party Chairman John McNamara to address this situation? How can a town committee member be allowed to repeatedly run against his party’s endorsed candidates, and be allowed to remain on the town committee for the party he so clearly condemns?

Section 8 is good for property owners as well as for the poor. Many landlords welcome the section 8 tenants because the rent check comes from the federal government and the rent payment is guaranteed, so everyone involved is a winner.
Suggesting that Farmington and Berlin have section 8 housing is not discriminatory. What is discriminatory is the attitude of these towns in NOT having section 8 housing. Both towns have plenty of open space compared to New Britain to build such complexes the size of Pinnacle Heights. Bring up the subject of doing so to the average resident of these towns and you will hear discriminatory remarks.
If the Democratic State Central Committee can take action against Senator Lieberman for supporting a Republican candidate, why isn't our town committee taking action against Bozek for BEING a Republican candidate???????????????????
What a campaign strategy: Tell the poor I want you out of my town. Could it be because they are disproportionately representative of minority groups? I wonder.
While there are some landlords who do welcome section 8 tenants, there are some who don't, because they're afraid the tenants will destroy the apartments...it's been known to happen.
When a section 8 tenant damages the property, section 8 pays for the damages. A thorough inspection is done by the section 8 representative before the tenant moves in and then again when the tenant leaves. If there is any damages, the landlord can file a claim for reimbursement for any damages the tenant caused. It may not be a perfect system, but in many cases, it is better for the landlords than having tenants who don't pay their rent.
How many times are the voters going to have to say NO to this guy before he finally gets the message?
It's true that Section 8 pays for damages done by Section 8 tenants; however, in many cases, the landlord doesn't understand this. The landlord should take photos of the entire apartment just prior to the tenant moving in, and more photos just after the tenant moves out, as well as a complete description of the damages done, plus the costs incurred of repairing the damages, and submit this information to Section 8 voucer providers. Perhaps the tenant(s) incurring the damages should be charged by the police for destruction of property.
BOZO THE CLOWN, the people are tired of your nonsense.
Good Point "one who knows." Many people may not know that section 8 does pay for the damages caused by their tenants as long as the landlords can document it. There is a pre-occupancy inspection that is conducted, but you raise a good suggestion that the landlord should also take photos that can be used to support their claim in the event the tenant does damage something. It would appear that a political candidate is using section 8 in an effort to scare people.
isn't that how Bozek normally operates, try to scare people?
what a dope
Thomas Bozek is not a Republican candidate. He is a Democrat running on the Republican ticket.
Stickler, if a person runs on the Republican ticket, does that not make him the Republican candidate???
new britain town crier, he is not necessarily the Republican candidate; he's a Democrat running on the Republican ticket...
another nb citizen, either way, does that mean that the Republican Party of New Britain is endorsing the racist comments that were reported by the Democratic Town Committee Chairman?
Why is there a DeFronzo campaign sign in front of the firehouse on South Main Street, across the street from the Senior apartments? Isn't there an ordinance prohibiting politiical signs on city property?
sounds like the firemen know who is the better choice for our city.
anonymous is right by saying that Former Senator Bozek is a loser.
