New Britain -FOI Commission:

In the case of the Willow Street Park Project, the FOI Commission found for the city even though Mayor Timothy Stewart and his staff had given the document (environmental report) to The Hartford Courant.

Alderman Phil Sherwood showed up to attest to this fact, but a spokesman for the FOI Commission, Tom Hennick, said this was trying to introduce new evidence and not allowed.

New Britain Herald editor Marc Levy said he was trying only to clarify unclear language in a FOI Commission document referring to testimony given October 24 2007 at FOI hearing.

He also pointed out that even the document’s use in litigation was uncertain, as Municipal Development Director Ken Malinowski said last week that “there was no settlement from HUD.”

There have been other complaints about City Hall holding back public documents, and the Common Council passed two city laws last year to ensure the flow of information.

Great Show Sherwood.

They didn't want to hear from you at the FOI commission just like the residents in New Britain don't want to hear from your either.

I guess the FOI Commission also knows that whenever Sherwood's lips are moving, he is lying!!!!

I heard that at the 1.28.09 meeting of the Council Chief Gagliardi gave another report on the number of free copies of accident reports the Police had to provide recently. This is because Sherwack and the Democrats rammed through the FOI legislation over the negative comments from residents at a public hearing and at a Council meeting. This was done by Sherwack as an attempt to curry favor with Levy and Guinness of the Herald.
Guess who's paying for this sin? You guessed correctly if you said NB Taxpayers. The Council Democrats need to be booted from office in November.

Can any taxpayer think of one Democrat initiative - especially one introduced by Sherwack- that saved taxpayers money?

Word at City Hall is that Sherwood was going to "testify" that Monica Polanco from the Hartford Courant told him that she had a copy of the report in question weeks before the Herald.

I guess Sherwack is so busy trying to convert NB to socialism that he doesn't get to watch much TV - like Law and Order - to see that hearsay is not allowed in hearings and such.

And I never thought I would see the day when an Alderman would LIE to keep in good favor with the (so-called) press. There was no proof that the Courant got the report before the Herald, and the City said they both got it the same day.

If Monica said that - why wouldn't the Herald have HER testify to it. Or is she too smart to get mixed up with Sherwack and his media tools Levy and Guiness.

Sherwack's antics continue to cost the City money - money that we don't have in this economy. He should be censured for his lack of judgment and pandering.

As for the Herald - Mr. Schroder are you watching this continuing circus? Get rid of those two clowns Levy and Guiness if you want those of us who are paying attention to take the Herald's rebirth seriously. This unseemly exchange of favors for sensational press needs to END and END NOW. We taxpayers need to now what is really going on in our town and we are currently not getting it from the Herald.
