MEET THE CANDIDATES:

Dennis Bryant: Alderman--Ward Three

Dennis Bryant is a candidate for Alderman in Ward Three.

Dennis attended New Britain High School, various industrial schools, and Bucknell University. Dennis is a veteran, having been honorably discharged from the U.S. Navy.

Dennis works for Hospital for Special Care, and is a member of the Elks Club.

Dennis says he is running because he feels it is time to give something back to the community instead of watching from the sidelines. Dennis said that in the past six years under Mayor Stewart, he has seen more positive things happen for everybody--not for just certain groups or individuals--and that he would like to be part of that.

I don't much cater to blogs, sicne they have limited follwing, and there are too many other more legitimate sources for information. But each to their own.

When I was approached by somone at the most recent New Britain High School footbal game in Simsbury, and told that I was listed on this blog for delinquent taxes, I could not conatin myself.

Yep, I am delinquent Mr. Smith. $155.00 worth, and since I pay interest on any deliquency, I contribute more than others, I do not know where it is written that taxes are paid any differently than any other bill. You get a monthly statement, you pay interest, and you live the "American Dream". I have never treated my taxes other than another bill. Taxes are not sacred, they are an obligation and a responsibility.

We all have special circumstances, Mr. Smith. But since you decided to get into my personal business, here it goes. Beside our morgtage, car tax, sewer tax and water tax, that I have two daughters, one in college, another on the way, my wife was unemployed for nine months this past year, I work two jobs, I never complain about my taxes, like so many others on tehir purported "fixe incomes". Mine is pretty fixed too. As a state employee, for the first time in over 40 years in teh work force, it cost me $6,000 to keep my job through agreed furlough days, no cost of living wages, no annual steo increases for two years. NOt that I am complaining. I did my part for the slumping economy created by the last Bush administration. And while I am at it, Frank, I pay interest on my taxes, gladly, while I humbly volunteer my time with the City Planning Commission, and a number of other civic activities that I rather not mention simply because I do it because it is my social responsibility. You should try it sometime.

And furthermore, I send out congratulations to all the volunteers in all the dozens of student groups, senior groups, youth organizations in New Britain who selflessly give of their time, far more than I do, I am sure, because they care about this community, and contribute far more than what they may be delinquent in their tax bills. Maybe they should receive some rebate for community service for their time, just as those who believe the senior population should receive tax breaks. Give us all a break Frank. As somone who will be 60 this year, I have a right to talk about senior tax breaks. I don't want one. Keep it, pay someone's delinquent taxes for them who cannot afford to pay.

Don'y worry, Mr. Smith, I will pay all my taxes, in due time. But I have to spraed my "wealth" around to the businesses of America I purchase my goods and services from. And I am so proud to pay my taxes to New Britain, for the quality school system, police and fire protection, Public Works and Parks and Recreation Departments and so much more, I am pleased to pay my interest due to my delinquency.

And for the"progressives", from one of the most Progressive people I know, me, take off your blinders, learn to be less partisan, work for the community, attend some of the functions of this community we never see you at, even a football game or two, and work with Mayor Tim Stewart. He is going to be around for another two years.

And if you FINALLY show up at the next football game, or student spaghetti dinner, or play or other school program, AFTER the election, say hello. Danny Salerno

I'm sure Frank was happy to hear that he is considered to be one of Little Mac's most progressive of the progressive socialists:

Perhaps you should do a little research before slandering someone with information that is inaccurate, just because you are mad about that person publishing something about you, in your official capacity as a public official, that happens to be true (by your own admission).

You suggest that he should attend a function at a school or something along those lines, when Frank is well known for his efforts to stop teen smoking by lecturing to students at schools from around the entire region, including New Britain. He has been the recipient of many awards and other commendations for those tireless efforts to curb tobacco use by our youth and was even recently featured in the Sunday Courant regarding those efforts.

To read your posting, one would be left with the opinion that he does nothing but sit on the sideline, criticizing others, when nothing could be further from the truth.
You should feel free to criticize someone, and I am not suggesting you shouldn't be, but your efforts would be more successful if your facts were accurate.

As a valid point that you raise, I hope Frank will consider your suggestion to abandon his progressive Democratic roots and take your suggestion to support Team Stewart!

Danny must have been really stressed to mispell many words and not make corrections. Shame on him. However, I do agree that we need not castigate a responsible person over $155.00. There is shame all around. And this, from an unlikely source!

Oh Boy! and this response was given
on Dennis's brief. Dennis one of the most soft spoken, kind people I have had the pleasure to know.
Danny is a nice guy too. These late tax payment lashings here at the blog are just too much to take
sometimes.

Best of wishes on November 3rd. Dennis.

Dan Salerno has a right to be miffed about his being listed as being delinquent on his taxes in the amount of $155. With his being so involved in the community, especially with high school activities because of his daughters, and being supportive of all the positive things going on in New Britain right now, he can be forgiven. Hopefully he realizes people are miffed at certain council members who want to raise taxes and are delinquent on their taxes.
Frank Smith should not be criticized for not attending high school sporting events...that is for the students, faculty, and parents. Many seniors no longer have the stamina to attend high school sporting events, unless it involves their grandchildren.
Dan Salerno, keep on speaking up at public forums. You tell it like it is, and people respect you for it.

All of you who vote in Ward 3, vote for Dennis Bryant...he will be an asset and will be supportive of Mayor Stewart and his ideas for New Britain...we don't need any more of the negativity of the current Democratic Common council.

Frank,
Danny Salerno is right, you need to stop pushing McNamara's radical extremist progressive left agenda!

He is correct to call you out as John McNamara's personal messenger!

Mr. Salerno,

You obviously don’t read much of Frank Smith’s Blog. Please allow me to catch you up on a few details about Frank and this blog.

Frank Smith isn’t a pawn for John McNamara. Matter of fact, I would categorize him as one of John McNamara’s greatest opponents.

Frank has often times (every chance he gets) criticized John McNamara on every issue he has an opportunity to do so. This lately, has been a lot to say the least. It is clear from the content on this blog that Frank is a Stewart supporter.

Frank could care less about your financial plight. He doesn’t know how tough it is today to raise a family in this economy. It doesn’t matter to him that you selflessly serve your community in many outstanding ways. Matter of fact he could care less about you. All he cares about is making his own self feel important. Feeding his ego. Making waves in our community to disrupt the little peace we have left. This is how little people behave, this is their main thrust in life and I personally think it isn’t something to get mad about, but something that is sad to see…a truly wasted life.

Mr. Salarno, I would like to encourage you to continue to do the best you can for our community. Don’t sweat the small stuff. We all know you will eventually pay your own way (as you obviously have done in the past) and even pay more in the many ways you serve the community. You’re a good citizen who cares about building people up and your willingness to volunteer in your many ways (both small and great) has proven your more than just empty words and idle insults. You’re a good example of a committed husband, father, friend and community confidant.

Mr. Salarno, I know it may be difficult to do at times, but don’t dwell on this small negative crap that small minds meddle in…not unless you would like to turn into a Frank Smith yourself.

Life is too short and Frank Smith so insignificant compared to the big picture.

I wish you and yours the best this life has to offer and thank you for your true selfless dedication to our community.

Frank Smith was significant enough to get you riled up enough to post of his blog--the blog that everyone in town seems to be reading. Everyone I talk to about it is laughing at you, not Frank.

Keep up the good work, Frank, on keeping us informed about what our elected officials are up to. Without any legitimate media in town, you are all we have!
