Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was a champion of civil rights and what few people today realize is that he associated with the political party of civil rights--the Republican Party.
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was a registered Republican, just like his father and grand father were!

The article raises a great point about the fact that the only blacks who seem to succeed in this nations are those who remove themselves from the repressive control of the Democrats and their designed to keep everyone down social programs.
Another important point is the history of the Democrats being the oppressors of blacks. JFK himself opposed giving blacks equal rights when as a Senator JFK voted against the proposed 1958 Civil Rights Act.
Perhaps Shirley Black should be made aware of Dr. King's being a Republican....It might inspire her to become a Republican, also. She'd be encouraged to think independently, rather than being a puppet to Sherwood, Trueworthy, and MacNamara.
Perhaps Ms. Black needs a history lesson as pointed out in the story:
Dr. King, did not align himself with The Democratic Party, for Southern Democrats were the individuals with attack dogs; cattle prods; and lynch ropes denying African-Americans their rights as they enforced the segregationist policies of Jim Crow.

Yes the Republicans stood by him in Memohis that day when he was there to support the Unions?
Republicans fought a long hard battle to grant blacks equal rights, while Democrats sought to keep them as second class citizens.
I still have never understood how so many blacks could register with the same party that owned them as slaves, and even 100 years later did everything in their power to prolong their suffering by preventing them their equality.
If it were not for Republicans fighting so hard to overcome JFK's opposition, blacks would probably still be without equal protections under the law.
Mayor Timothy Stewart delivered the City greetings at Martin Luther King Day in New Britain, in which he acknowledged the advancements and accomplishments of the black community. Mayor Stewart stated the progress of the civil rights movement and the continued gain of the community has allowed many blacks to be elected to serve the public, including the presidency.
The election of President Barack Obama] could not be possible with out the work of Martin Luther King, Mayor Stewart said. Yet with all the process, bigotry still exists today.
Dr. Martin Luther King Was A Republican because he knew that Democrats were his racist oppressors!
I guess Dr. King understood what a racist JFK was?
The legacy of MLK makes me proud to be a fellow Republican!
