O'Brien's Administration Maybe Proposing a Tax Increase

Surprise, Surprise------after the O'Brien administration raided, what he called the surplus funds, at the water department and assuming the debt of the water dept payments of a sum of $800,000 annually a local newspaper announced that the Board of Finance and Taxation is recommending an 8.1% increase to the city's expenditures resulting to a proposed mil rate increase to the city's taxpayers of 12.61 Mils. What happen to the mayor O'Brien's promise of no tax increases???? Yes, the Common Council membership has a lot of number crunching to keep them awake nights before completing their proposed budget to be submitted to the taxpayers.

What surprise? The only question is how much is it going to hurt?

it will only hurt those evil rich people who own property--the ones who deserve to be punished for having more wealth than people who have never worked a day int their lives, but deserve their fair share of your wealth simply for being born. this is O'Brien's support base. bums who mooch their existence off those of us who actually work for a living and pay taxes while his base sits on the front porch drinking beer that you bought for them since they have a right to it.

Frank,

You're losing credibility here. People who read your blog are smart. They know that Stewarts board approved essentially the same increase and Stewart made a similar pledge about not raising taxes.
WE're setting up o'brien to look like a hero.

We look stupid when we attack o'brien's regime for the water fund transfer, when stewart did it to!

IT IS THE USUAL BLAME GAME BY THE O'BRIEN DEMOCRATS ATTEMPTING TO CLAIM THAT MAYOR STEWART DID THE SAME TRANSFER FROM THE WATER DEPARTMENT.

BUT IS WAS NOT DONE THE SAME AS O'BRIEN DID IT WHEN YOU CONSIDER THAT THE TAXPAYERS NOW HAVE TO PAY $800,000 ANNUALLY FOR YEARS TO COME IN ODER TO MAKE UP FOR THIS LOAN ASSUMPTION FROM THE WATER DEPT.

To the commenter above; we look even more stupid when we try to equate what Stewart did with taking $10.5million from Water Dept. reserves. Stewart didn't do that in the same way. Had he done what you suggest from where would the $20+million have accrued from which O'Brien took the funds?
Also, what Stewart did imposed no increased burden on the city's General Fund, the burden of which is borne by the taxpayers. I've mentioned this before, please get it straight; Water Dept. reserves accrue from ALL the RATEPAYERS not just from NB TAXPAYERS!
Frank's credibility here is not in question, it is aliases like you that have no credibility.

Must be a graduate of an inferior union run public school. You can tell this person was not fortunate enough to have the had opportunity to attend a non-union private school where he might have learned proper spelling and grammar.

Just wait until Dr. Cooper realizes what a bunch of total morons are running city hall. He just may want to return to sanity by going back to Texas.

I don't recall any tax increases under the Stewart administration?

2 increases other than reval since 2003-2011

Once again, the homeowners have to work harder (get a 2nd job if need be) to pay for more and more free stuff for people who have no skin in the game because they do not work or even pay taxes. Socialism is doomed to failure.

No increases in taxes in 8 years under Stewart! Reval dropped the mil rate and most people saw an overall decrease in their total tax burden when motor vehicles are added in. When were the two increases? I know of none and I believe that no other mayor can say that! It's apparent that Mr.O'Brien will not be able to do that as his one term will be plenty for the taxpayers of NB!

Frank -

Everyone needs to watch very closely, particularly to what Sherwood is saying. In the Courant he says, "Mayor OB will not SIGN a budget with a tax increase". He did not say VETO.

What he is implying is that the Council will be the bad cops and propose the tax increase and the Mayor will let it take effect without signing.

There's leadership for you. I guess the buck is not stopping anywhere.

Typical Democrats with their lies. They tell the same lie over and over until they can get their mindless minions to believe it and then it becomes fact in their empty Democrat heads.
