THE PROPERTY AT MAIN AND CHESTNUT STREETS ALMOST COMPLETELY LEVELED.
This is the planned new location for the New Britain Police Department, a plan which will be further scrutinized by the City’s sub-committee of the Common Council at its meeting Tuesday July 7th. at 7PM.
Also on the agenda for that meeting are two other proposals: The pinnacle heights property sale, and the controversial proposal for Hospital of Central Connecticut to terminate the city’s lease two years earlier than agreed upon by the city’s council twenty five years ago. This particular project became controversial with Alderman Phil Sherwood’s comment “We have the Power” (The Herald, 6/25/09) apparently implying that the city can take over the ownership of the garage whenever it wants in spite of the twenty five year old common council agreement made with the then named New Britain General Hospital.
I strongly suggest that our residents to attend this council sub-committee meeting to cite any frustrations of the council’s leadership actions.

Are Our State Reps.Shorting Out Our School Children
The big mystery with New Britain’s Senator and State Representatives is why they approved sending the cities of Bridgeport, Hartford, New London and many other communities large MBR increases in funding for their boards of Education for fiscal 2008-2009 while they sent New Britain $0.00.
It is quite apparent that New Britain’s representation in our legislature is lacking any attempts for helping our school children while helping so many other cities.
Our representatives did allow appropriating $558,039.00 for the new ECS aid to the city for tax relief which is paid directly to the city Council.
Eighty per cent of this amount is customarily sent to the Board of Education by the City Council and let us hope that current council members will send this much needed money since the state budget to all school districts has not been resolved--especially since we still have no state budget.
CT.DOCTOR SPEAKS OUT ON OBAMA'S HEALTH CARE---HTFD. COURANT LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
So let me get this straight, health insurance companies have spent millions on computer systems to weed out patients who are actually sick, and raised premiums to unreasonable levels for businesses that employ people who use their health coverage. Yet some members of Congress are worried that a government health plan will unfairly compete with these private insurers.
I thought the goal of health care reform was to increase coverage and reduce cost — not to protect insurance company profits.
Maybe it's time to weed out some members of Congress.

THE MATTABASSETT DISTRICT DENITRIFICATION ISSUE;
The last and most recent public notice as to the cost for this project was a quote by the district in the Middletown Press that the latest cost estimates is for a sum of $71,400,000.
Let us exam the true cost to the City of New Britain taxpayers as being approximately 69.3% of this overall estimate amounting to sum of $49,400,200.
Why then would we as, New Britain Tax Payers, underwrite a bonding cost for some twenty years or so with an added 6% interest accrual as a continued expense when the district’s board of directors can just continue to pay for the nitrogen credits to the State of Connecticut at some $20,000 to $50,000 yearly cost which would be shared with the other owners of the district.
As I understand it, many other plants are doing just that, in order to avoid the similar drastic expansion cost to their own Districts.
With the bad economic times both our city and taxpayers are forced to endure why would the Mattabassett District be allowed to continue with this enormous expenditure for this planned expansion?

Obama ABC Wednesday Night Infomercial finishes last In Ratings!
by: Frank Smith
President Obama is no longer the ratings draw that he once was.
The TV ratings are out for last night's network coverage (courtesy of TV By The Numbers), and the ABC Infomercial featuring President Obama's sales pitch for socialized health care finished in last place in the ratings.
The President's infomercial, which had many similarities to someone hawking food processors, kitchen knives, or mops, only had 4.703 million viewers while 7.414 million chose to watch The Philanthropist on NBC, and 7.393 million preferred a repeat of CSI:NY on CBS, yea that's right a rerun was preferred by over 7 million viewers and 15 million chose something else over watching the Messiah!

Berlin---The Voters Referendum Rejection Doesn't Count
The referendum vote on the trash collection resulted in favor of keeping with manual collection service (if it is available and cost effective).
Automated refuse carts will continue to be distributed through the last week of June.
As a new contract has already been executed, residents shall use their manual trash containers until the week of July 6th and then begin using the automated containers until further notice.
If it is determined that the automated containers are no longer going to be used, the Public Works Department will make arrangements to have them picked up from your residence.
We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. Watch for more updates on the Town's website, newspapers or flyers.
A CALL TO ACTION
Democrats have lived up to their pledge to tax the residents of Connecticut into submission.
Today we learned the House and Senate leaders in the Legislature will attempt to pass a budget that will increase personal income taxes 60 % while adding a 30 % surcharge on all businesses. As the largest tax increase proposed in state history, it is the biggest theft of personal property by a government since King George III.
Most of our neighbors won't believe it, but the Democrats have made irresponsibility into an art form. Democrats believe the way out of an $8 billion budget shortfall is to further punish those who pay all the taxes and create all the jobs.
Democrats don't nor will they offer any substantive cuts in spending, certainly none that addresses even a fraction of the deficit problem.
Gov. M. Jodi Rell is holding firm and called on the Democrats to pass a budget without tax increases and with broad and deep spending cuts which she and House and Senate Republicans have offered in various budget proposals.
"If the Democrats are intent upon passing such a tax increase, they owe it to the individuals and employers who will be paying those taxes to provide them with the details," Governor Rell said. "There is only a week to go - and still there is no information about who will pay these taxes, or how much they will be forced to pay. The Democrats should spell out their plan and hold a public hearing on it before bringing legislators back to the Capitol for a vote."
Amen - but it is unlikely Democrats would hold any public form prior to voting on the budget, maybe by Thursday. They will probably keep their proposal hidden from public view until they have to shot it and distribute it to the entire 151-House and 36-member Senate.
The increase in the personal income tax would run from 5% up to almost 8% on incomes of $500,000 or more. Small and large businesses, those which are still profitable, would be stung with another 30 cents on the dollar for every buck in the black.
And Democrats want to add more penalties on dying by lowering the threshold for taxation on an estate below the $2 million threshold.
Democrats continue to travel the state trying to rally support for their tax increases with rhetorical nonsense that is not fooling anyone, including their hometown crowds of union-loyalist and non-profit dependents.
A CALL TO ACTION
Now is the time to keep the phones humming? Now is the time to get on the radio and get on your local newspaper websites to register the Republican side of the story.
Connecticut must cut spending and shrink government.
Connecticut can have a budget without tax increases - pass Governor Rell's budget.
The Democratic budget will destroy jobs and bankrupt the Middle Class.
The Democratic budget puts the government first at the expense of taxpayers.
We now have history and the facts on our side. Now is the time to get your friends and neighbors engaged and not allow the Democrats to ruin our state.
Call, write, blog, Twitter - whatever it takes to take back Connecticut.
Sincerely,

Was this remark listed below written by a city alderman?
If so why is he calling the mayor a liar?
There are two other checks or sales pending along with the Pinnacle Heights deal. One for a pending sale of the Hospital For Central Connecticut Garage form the City and the other is a sale of the lot at Main and Chestnut Streets with a land lease agreement for the New Police Station site.
It oblivious, if this remark below is from an Alderman, tomorrow’s council meeting may be already geared up to dismiss what is being proposed by Mayor Stewart in his attempting to obtain the Council’s approval to negotiate all three pending deals which would require the Council’s approval of the negotiated results at a subsequent council meeting.
Could it be that the comments below, is from an alderman of the council, and they have made up their minds to mess up any financial gain for our city with their political tactic?

" I thought the 2008 budget was balanced with a last minute check from Centerplan? Did the mayor lie about receiving this check? Was the budget balanced on smoke and mirrors? Should there be an investigation by the Chief State Attorney? "
