FRANKSMITHSAYSNB EDITORIAL:
John McNamara’s recent letter to the editor that appeared in the New Britain Herald on 8-20-10 as his venting of his frustrations towards the Stewart Administration over the selected location for the new police station at Main and Chestnut Streets is nothing more than more Democratic obstructionism to once again prevent the mayor from accomplishing anything positive for the city--in pursuit of some twisted political expedience for McNamara and his band of merry men.
Bewilderment was expressed by everyone I spoke to who had read his most recent diatribe. I was just as perplexed after watching this party leader attend the many council meetings regarding the location of the new police building while he silently watched his party minions discuss this issue month after month without expressing any objections. His majority party on the council approved this location, and now it is somehow the mayor's fault in a similar fashion to the way Obama continues to blame George W. Bush for Obama's own numerous failures.
Now this so-called great party leader has the gall to question the selection after the design engineering is underway with the approval of his so called Democratic minions and considerable taxpayer money has already been spent in furtherance of this project.
The public must speak up to prevent this "Johnny Come Lately" from causing more of your tax dollars to be wasted simply to pursue some ridiculous political agenda. Will the local Democrats ever stop these childish games?

Letter to the Editor by Cris Carillo
Thankfully this year, the New Britain school system was able to secure a $4.3 million dollar aid package from the federal government. These funds will allow us to rehire about 40 teachers who were let go during this year’s budget cuts. This emergency package makes you wonder though – why don’t we have the money to pay our teachers? Should the residents of New Britain be completely responsible for the increasing costs of the school system?
As a member of the State Legislature, where the Democrats have a 114-36 supermajority, Tim O’Brien has been unable to secure proper funding for our school system – resulting in 112 teachers losing their jobs this year. Even after the reported $242.9 million dollar state surplus, O’Brien was still unable to bring any additional funding so desperately needed to help our schools. He claims to be a staunch advocate for educational funding, but I have to ask - where is the evidence to support that? He has been coming up short for eight years. We shouldn’t tolerate and we certainly can’t afford his inferior performance in Hartford anymore.
On his blog, Rep. O’Brien states “I [still] fought for changes in education funding that would have increased support for local school districts and, especially for cities like New Britain.” It would be unfair to say we didn’t see state funding, but it does not keep up with our increasing costs. For example, New Britain High School students struggle with the State’s largest high school enrollment - nearly 3,200 students, and class sizes are growing, yet we are forced to choose between eliminating staff or raising taxes. Real problems like this make it hard to believe we have someone in Hartford fighting for our schools.
As the son of two former New Britain teachers, I fully understand the importance of education in the Hardware City and that we need to improve the broken system in place. As a property owner and resident of New Britain, I understand the impact that education has on our taxes. It seems each year the State increases educational requirements, and as a result, so does the cost to towns and cities. We have to fix this system before it completely suffocates our residents with increased taxation.
We need to hold the State accountable for the unfunded mandates that are passed down to the municipalities. Each of these mandates creates more expenses, and we end up paying the difference. If elected, I will not support any unfunded mandate. Additionally, I will work to help to restore our educational system through increased grants with the only goal being an improved learning environment.
As residents, we don’t need a representative who is meddling in New Britain’s budget while his work goes unfinished in Hartford. And we don’t need a representative who is using this year to prepare for his 2011 mayoral campaign in New Britain. What we need is a fighter who is focused on serving the needs of residents in New Britain and will work tirelessly to help secure funding for our schools.
As state representative, I will work in Hartford for New Britain – to both better Connecticut and this great City.

AP: Beck Rally Signals Election Trouble For Democrats!
Hundreds of thousands (Fox News reported an estimated 2.5 million)turned out in Glenn Beck's latest rally on the mall in Washington DC this past weekend. I'm sure this will be another event Princess Pelosi will describe as "phony" and "astroturf" but wait until these millions of people cast their votes in November. How many do you think will be voting for Democrats?

Lou Salvio Wrote Regarding Democratic Hogwash!
" That The Herald articles lean to the liberal left is not surprising, the media in general lean that way. What is too bad is that often, the reporting and the submitted articles are sickening in that regard. Case in point, today's issue of the Herald.
The leading story on page one reports on the Busway Project, a good article that comments effectively on questions that have been asked by "citizens of New Britain"; the article should be of major interest to New Britain residents and taxpayers. Congratulations. A problem I see with the article is that the article barely gets started and then the reader must forward to page 8 for the rest of it.
Contrast this to two articles on page 3, one of the most read pages in the paper - (don't believe it?), check out the cost of an ad on page 3.
The two articles profile two Democrat politicians, Chris Murphy and Tim O'Brien; both articles drip with syrupy praise for the two. The article on O'Brien is a, "Special To The New Britain Herald." It trumpets the fact that O'Brien does what he was elected to do, vote on bills before the Gen. Assembly.
WOW, great going Tim! If O'Brien is so proud of his "accomplishment" is it something voters should not expect from him? It's like the ridiculous statement often made that so and so gives 100% at their job. What percent should they give?
The article by Scott Whipple re Chris Murphy takes up about 80% of Page 3. The article tells one absolutely nothing new except to introduce the names of about 6 people who have nothing to do with New Britain - including Murphy.
So much for fair and balanced reporting! "

Illegal Alien Resolve!
What did Hoover, Truman, and Eisenhower have in common?
Back during The Great Depression, President Herbert Hoover ordered the deportation of ALL illegal aliens in order to make jobs available to American citizens that desperately needed work..
Harry Truman deported over two million Illegal ' s after WWII to create jobs for returning veterans.
And then again in 1954, President Dwight Eisenhower deported 13 million Mexican Nationals! The program was called ' Operation Wetback ' . It was done so WWII and Korean Veterans would have a better chance at jobs.
It took 2 Years, but they deported them!
Now...if they could deport the illegal's back then - they sure as hell could do it today.

Frank Smith Says NB 2nd Anniversary!
Today marks the 2nd anniversary of this blog. It has been 2 years since I was encouraged by the actions of Alderman Phil Sherwood to start this blog as a way to keep the people informed about the truth regarding what is happening in New Britain politics--especially all those sleazy back door deals that those in power want to be kept hidden from the public view.
Thanks to all my readers for their loyal readership and looking forward to my third year of success as we approach what may be the most important election America may ever face.
A response to the NBDTC Chairman
Frank: This was my ANONYMOUS RESPONSE TO LITTLE MAC’S LETTER TO THE EDITOR TODAY.

" John McNamara is at it again; there is a municipal election coming in November of 2011 and John is looking to spearhead yet another delay of a project planned during the administration of Tim Stewart. The police station project has been in the planning stages for years and Democrats are desperate for a campaign talking point; at the most recent Council meeting, Democrats led by Larry Hermanowski, Trueworthy and Sherwood tried to block additional funding for the police station. Interestingly, the Herald announced today that New Britain had received the $10 million that would have been lost had the Democrats succeeded. Given the fiascos that Democrats have perpetrated recently - remember the threat thing from Sherwood - this move by McNamara is not surprising.
At the most recent Council meeting, Democrats, led by Trueworthy and Sherwood also blocked the purchase of two badly needed mowers for the Golf Course. Interestingly again, they voted in favor of the P&R budget for 2010-2011. The money for the mowers would have come from Special Revenue Funds and not from the city's General Fund Budget. Yet another partisan blunder by the Democrats. I guess the Ds feel it's better to let the Golf Course fail. Stay tuned folks, more to come. "

The Republican Legislative Candidates
Everyone Needs to Tighten Belts, Including Legislatures
To the editor:
At last the primary season is over. Candidates have been selected and are attempting to let the voters know where they stand on issues via TV/radio commercials, ads in the mail and by knocking on doors. This election truly is one of the most important for both state and federal offices. This election will effect the path our state and country takes for the next 25 years.
Now is the time for answers, not the usual “I’m going to fight for you in Hartford or Washington,” depending on the office.
If an incumbent comes to your door, ask them what have they done in Hartford to control spending? What cuts have they attempted to the state budget? What taxes and fees have they supported increasing to bail out the state? What experience do they have with budgets? What new ideas do they have to reduce spending at the state level?
For starters, how about getting rid of special license plates for legislators? The Department of Motor Vehicles announced that we will no longer get stickers for our windshields.
Every little bit helps, so lead by example. I doubt many legislators rely solely on their state stipend for a living, unless they are retired. Surely they have seen belt tightening in their private sector jobs.
Why not take a 10 percent pay cut and reduce your office expenses the same amount? Prove to taxpayers that you understand the fiscal cliff we are about to fall into and are responsible guardians of the taxpayers hard earned money.
These questions can be put to challengers also. It is no longer business as usual. State and federal budgets have to learn to operate more like a household or small town budget. We can’t afford everything right away, why should the state be any different?

COST OF GOVERNMENT DAY!
Today is national "Cost of Government day." By national average, you had to work until today to pay for the cost of the government--231 days, but because you live in Connecticut, you still have another month to go, just to earn the money to pay for all the taxes needed to run your government.
That's right, because you choose to live in Connecticut, you will work until September 17th this year just to pay all your taxes--meaning every dime you have earned until September 17th will go to the government. You will be allowed to keep whatever you earn after that date until the end of the year, and then you can expect that next year you will have to work even longer to pay your taxes, thanks to the tax and spend Democrats that currently control Congress, our state legislature and our city council.
In fact, Connecticut ranks 50th in the nation with the latest "Cost of Government Day" in the nation. In Connecticut you will work 260 days for the government this year.
Just a little information to consider when deciding which candidates to support in November, so if you like the idea of working into October just to pay your taxes, go right ahead and vote for someone who supports more spending, more social programs, and of course higher taxes to pay for all the nonsense.
But, if you like the idea of working less time for the government instead of more, you might start to consider candidates who support reducing spending, reducing the bloat in government at all levels and finally as a result, reducing taxes.

Dems Veto Override Costs Us $3 Million"
State Representative Tim O'Brien voted along side 105 other Democrats to increase the public campaign funding for Gubernatorial Candidate Dan Malloy by $3 million. This rises the cost to taxpayers from $3 million to $6 million dollars this year to pay for his political campaign. The Democrats, and their veto proof majority in the Legislature, successfully overrode Gov. Jodi Rell's veto to increase these funds last Friday.
This adds $3 million more to our state debt. We already have the highest overall taxes in the nation, the highest government debt per-person in the nation, and the second worst pension liability in the nation. We currently owe $51 Billion to the state pension fund, which is expected to run out of money by 2019.
Even with all this debt, Tim O'Brien voted in favor of increasing taxpayer funds to spend on campaign TV commercials and lawn signs.
It should be apparent to the people of New Britain's 24th house district that Tim O'Brien voted to protect his political interests and not the interests of the people from New Britain. We could have spent those millions of dollars on job creation or education instead of going to TV commercials. Enough is enough. Everyone but the State of Connecticut is trimming their budgets due to the economic conditions. We need a Representative that understands this. We need a Representative in New Britain that understands we have priorities before funding campaigns. We need a Representative who wants to put Connecticut back on track.
Cris Carillo is that candidate.
Cris is committed to balancing the state budget without raising taxes. Cris is self employed and a property owner in New Britain and he understands the task ahead. Unlike Tim O'Brien, Cris is an independent minded individual who doesn’t make decisions based on party politics. We can't afford the tax, borrow, and spend policies anymore. Our current Representative has been in office for 8 years - it's time for a change in Hartford.
On November 2nd, I suggest you consider Cris Carillo for State Representative of the 24th District.

Jason Stark

LINDA’S BIG WIN!
FRANKSMITHSAYSNB EDITORIAL:
Linda McMahon was extremely excited with her primary win Tuesday night citing with her having to face a third round with Blumenthal. It is predicted by many of the individuals attending her election results at the Cromwell Plaza in Cromwell, Connecticut. She will win her encounter with the Attorney General Blumenthal hands down. Upon my arrival I had to park way out behind the Plaza noticing an approximate one hundred motorcycles parked out front.
If I were good estimating the crowd in attendance my guess would be at least two thousand. Mayor Timothy Stewart also attending with his wife and daughter.
Linda was very appreciative for all the help she received from all the volunteers. She also expressed a desire to be able to debate Blumenthal for a minimum of three occasions prior to the November election. “Claiming its time to take the Senate seat“.
If the prediction of the crowd in attendance, carries through, Linda will win with a slam dunk against Blumenthal. They were all chanting "GO Linda" over and over again.

Last night's vote to purchase the mowers was supported by, Bernacki, Marrocco, Pabon, Salvio, Carlozzi and Collins. The vote against purchase went like this: Hermanowski, Trueworthy, Sherwood, Black (*), Magnuzewski (*), Platosz, Cruz. (*) Names in with [stars] are Parks and Rec. Liaisons that don’t attend P&R meetings. It is believed Eva came to two meetings at the beginning of this Council term. Also they were asked if they were
P&R liaisons and they said , “yes.” by an alderman Then he asked if they voted against the purchase and they said, yes. ???????????????
What these so called representatives of the taxpayers don’t realize is that no General Fund money was to be used for the purchase; it’s Enterprise Fund money and was in the budget which they approved! I believe that P&R should make it known that liaisons who do not come to meetings vote this way. You should ask for replacements. They didn’t even read the resolution. It should have been pointed out that the Council approved the P&R & Enterprise Fund budgets.

Lt. Governor Michael Fedele--making his bid for Governor!
Mike Fedele
Mark Boughton
FRANKSMITHSAYSNB EDITORIAL:
Born in Italy and as a child, emigrating to Connecticut with his parents, Mike grew up in Stamford, Connecticut. He is certainly a classic example of foreign immigration making good with his being the founder and Chairman of Stamford based Pinnacle Group, a company that delivers information technology solutions and services throughout the USA. Amazingly, it is alleged that he never purchased an ad for the process of expanding his company to a national status. Mike was elected for two terms on Stamford’s Board of Representatives and elected to the Connecticut General Assembly for a period of nine years before he became the Lt. Governor.
His running mate as candidate for Lt. Governor is Danbury’s Mayor Mark Boughton, who is serving his fifth term in office. Boughton is a CCSU graduate with a degree in history and a masters degree from Western Conn. State University. He also served as a State Representative for a period of three years and in the past was a high school teacher in Danbury-- teaching social studies.
His most famous action that drew national publicity was his working with the Danbury Police and federal authorities in a joint effort to roundup illegal aliens from the city--helping to establish a very low crime rate for his city.
Mayor Boughton makes a good compatible running mate for Lt. Governor Fedele.
A Positive Candidate for the Office of State Comptroller!
FRANKSMITHSAYSNB EDITORIAL:
The Democratic Primary campaign for State Comptroller is winding down with Mayor Mike Jarjura being the front runner in the upcoming primary against Kevin Lembo.
Jarura is in his fifth term as Waterbury's Mayor and served, before becoming mayor, ten years as a state representative. He has turned around the city that was once in a financial disaster. Yes: it was at the brink of bankruptcy with nearly a $100 million dollar deficit--turning this city from junk bond status to an A-rated bonds.
That experience will be just exactly what the State needs in its comptroller's office.
Unfortunately, his opposition candidate offers little experience as a chief of staff for New York's Lt. Governor, and with the dismal financial condition New York currently faces with furlough days, layoffs of state employees and huge tax hikes looming in the near future, is this really the type of experience we want for our state comptroller?
This high State office needs the great experience that Mayor Jarjura offers without question.

THE THORN SPEAKS OUT!
I am getting tired of watching the fantastic claims that candidate Foley keeps running against Lt. Governor Fedele.
He is constantly running ads whereby he claims that Mike Fedele presided over the largest tax increases in history as Lt. Governor. What troubles me the most about these claims is that candidate Foley doesn't seem to understand the office for which he is seeking. Mike Fedele is not now, nor has he ever been governor, except possibly during a short period as acting governor when Governor Rell was undergoing surgery or away on vacation, so how could he have presided over any tax increases whatsoever?
Our Lieutenant Governor has virtually no authority. His main purpose is to sit on the shelf waiting for the need to serve should the sitting governor become incapacitated, or in the event the governor dies in office or is otherwise unable to continue to serve. In such a case, the Lieutenant Governor would become Governor.
The only other authority the Lt. Governor has is to preside over the Senate as President of the Senate, but he only has a vote in the case of a tie. With such a large Democratic majority, there are no ties, and the Democratic Party controls anything the Senate does. As a result, if the Senate passed huge tax increases that candidate Foley is not happy with, it is the Democrats he should be blaming for it, and not the Lieutenant Governor who has dutifully sat on the sidelines maintaining his readiness to serve should that unfortunate need ever arise. The Lt. Governor has done precisely what the people elected him to do under our Constitution--little more than waiting.
Perhaps candidate Foley should consult Article Fourth of the Connecticut Constitution before creating any more advertisements?
Credit where credit is due!

Lee Iacocca Says:
Am I the only guy in this country who's fed up with what's happening? Where the hell is our outrage with this so called president? We should be screaming bloody murder!
We've got a
gang of tax cheating clueless leftists trying to steer our ship of state right over a cliff, we've got corporate gangsters stealing us blind, and we can't even run a ridiculous cash-for-clunkers program without losing $26 billion of the taxpayers' money, much less build a hybrid car. But instead of getting mad, everyone sits around and nods their heads when the politicians say, 'trust me the economy is getting better ...'
Better? You've got to be kidding. This is America , not the damned, 'Titanic'. I'll give you a sound bite: 'Throw all the Democrats out along with Obama!'
You might think I'm getting senile, that I've gone off my rocker, and maybe I have. But someone has to speak up. I hardly recognize this country anymore ...
The most famous business leaders are not the innovators but the guys in handcuffs ... While we're fiddling in Afghanistan , Iran is completing their nuclear bombs and missiles and nobody seems to know what to
do. And the liberal press is waving 'pom-poms' instead of asking hard questions. That's not the promise of the ' America ' my parents and yours traveled across the ocean for. I've had enough. How about you?
I'll go a step further. You can't call yourself a patriot if you're not outraged. This is a fight I'm ready and willing to have. The Biggest 'C' is Crisis! (Iacocca elaborates on nine C's of leadership, with crisis being the first.)
Leaders are made, not born. Leadership is forged in times of crisis. It's easy to sit there with thumb up your butt and talk theory. Or send someone else's kids off to war when you've never seen a battlefield yourself. It's another thing to lead when your world comes tumbling down.
On September 11, 2001, we needed a strong leader more than any other time in our history. We needed a steady hand to guide us out of the ashes. A hell of a mess, so here's where we stand.
We're immersed in a bloody
war now with no plan for winning and no plan for leaving ... But our soldiers are dying daily.
We're running the biggest deficit in the history of the world, and it's getting worse every day!
We've lost the manufacturing edge to Asia , while our once-great companies are getting slaughtered by health care costs.
Gas prices are going to skyrocket again, and nobody in power has a lucid plan to open drilling to solve the problem. This country has the largest oil reserves in the WORLD, and we cannot drill for it because the politicians have been bought by the flea-hugging environmentalists.
Our schools are in a complete disaster because of the teachers union.
Our borders are like sieves and they want to give all illegal's amnesty and free health
care.
The middle class is being squeezed to death every day.
These are times that cry out for leadership.
But when you look around, you've got to ask: 'Where have all the leaders gone?' Where are the curious, creative communicators? Where are the people of character, courage, conviction, omnipotence, and common sense? I may be a sucker for alliteration, but I think you get the point..
Name me a leader who has a better idea for homeland security than making us take off our shoes in airports and throw away our shampoo?
We've spent billions of dollars building a huge new bureaucracy, and all we know how to do is react to things that have already happened.
Everyone's hunkering down, fingers crossed, hoping the government will make it better for them. Now, that's just crazy ... Deal with life.
Name me an industry leader who is thinking creatively about how we can restore our competitive edge in
manufacturing. Who would have believed that there could ever be a time when 'The Big Three' referred to Japanese car companies? How did this happen, and more important, look what Obama did about it!
Name me a government leader who can articulate a plan for paying down the debt, or solving the energy crisis, or managing the health care problem. The silence is deafening. But these are the crises that are eating away at our country and milking the middle class dry.
I have news for the Chicago gangsters in Congress. We didn't elect you to turn this country into a losing European Socialist state. What is everybody so afraid of? That some bonehead on NBC or CNN news will call them a name? Give me a break. Why don't you guys show some spine for a change?
Had Enough? Hey, I'm not trying to be the voice of gloom and doom here. I'm trying to light a fire. I'm speaking out because I have hope - I believe in America .. In my lifetime,
I've had the privilege of living through some of America 's greatest moments. I've also experienced some of our worst crises: The 'Great Depression,' 'World War II,' the 'Korean War,' the 'Kennedy Assassination,' the 'Vietnam War,' the 1970's oil crisis, and the struggles of recent years since 9/11.
Make your own contribution by sending this to everyone you know and care about. It's our country, folks, and it's our future. Our future is at stake!!

Letter To The Editor
Doing Business In Central Connecticut
About a week ago I had the great pleasure to walk through OKay
Industries on Ellis Street in New Britain with COO Jason Howey. For
years I had driven past their building with no knowledge of what kind
of manufacturing went on inside their walls or even the size of their
operation. As one of the larger manufacturing companies in the area,
it was a real pleasure to see the inner operations of such a
fascinating company and learn about their business.
OKay was started in 1911 in New Britain and is one of the
oldest manufacturers left in the City. With a workforce of roughly
130 highly skilled employees they create many metal parts and pieces
for companies such as Toyota and have contracts as large as the US Army.
It was very disheartening to think about how many companies that
were similar to OKay, but picked up and left Connecticut.
The Hardware City, with all its beautiful factory buildings and long manufacturing
history, has been a victim of this corporate flight from Connecticut.
After asking Mr. Howey what he felt was a reason for this
exodus from Connecticut, I learned that he was frustrated, as were the
other businesses with Connecticut Policy makers. If it wasn’t for his
skilled labor force, OKay might have very well followed the path of
other companies that have exited the State. Citing taxes as the major
burden they face, he referenced a proposed tax for companies that
would have taxed their raw/wholesale products and services they use to
create their end product. The thought that Connecticut would use such
a tax to raise revenue would be devastating to Connecticut companies,
increasing their already high costs in the State and taking away any
advantage they would have left with companies in other states.
Connecticut needs to be like other states in the USA, we need
to become a business friendly environment. We need to be out there
attracting business to relocate to the New Britain/Newington area to
combat our high unemployment and taxes. As a State Representative
of New Britain and Newington, I would make it my personal
obligation to change Connecticut laws, prevent any potential harmful
legislation from passing that would inhibit bringing business back to New
Britain and Newington. We need to make the central Connecticut a more
feasible and attractive environment for families and workers.

Buy At Sears they Support Our Troops!
Sears A Must Read!
I know I needed this reminder since Sears isn't always my first choice.
Amazing when you think of how long the war has lasted and they haven't
Withdrawn from their commitment. Could we each buy at least one thing at
Sears this year?
How does Sears treat its employees who are called up for military duty? By
Law, they are required to hold their jobs open and available, but nothing
More. Usually, people take a big pay cut and lose benefits as a result of
Being called up.
Sears is voluntarily paying the difference in salaries and maintaining all
Benefits, including medical insurance and bonus programs, for all called up
Reservist employees for up to two years.
I submit that Sears is an exemplary corporate citizen and should be
Recognized for its contribution. I suggest we all shop at Sears, and be sure
To find a manager to tell them why we are there so the company gets the
Positive reinforcement it well deserves.
Pass it on.
Decided to check this before I sent it forward. So I sent the following
e-mail to the Sears Customer Service Department :
I received this e-mail and I would like to know if it is true. If it is,
The Internet may have just become one very good source of advertisement for
Your company. I know I would go out of my way to buy products from Sears
Instead of another store for a like item, even if it's cheaper at that
Store.

Dr. Doris Kurtz has submitted her retirement intention by her setting the date of June 2011.
FRANKSMITHSAYSNB EDITORIAL:
Her services from this date on can only be considered as a "LAME DUCK ADMINISTRATION"
A buy out of her contract it would cost our city an estimated sum of $250,000; when our city could least afford this assume amount.
It is hopeful she would leave under her own accord without costing our city the aforementioned sum so that our Board of Education can move on with its mission.
