Snow Storm Committee Report
FRANKSMITHSAYSNB EDITORIAL:
Alderman David DeFronzo's head hunter's snowstorm committee report, chaired by Atty. Paul Zagorsky, was adversely shunned by members of the committee, at the common council meeting yesterday, stating that this report was very adverse to the Former Mayor Stewart.
These members claimed that they joined this committee in seeking solutions for the city to meet future disasters but, reading in the New Britain Herald of the report that was sent to the common council which turned out to be a bashing of the Mayor Stewart's handling of the storm.
This vicious attack was not supported by the committee members, who made their comments known during the public participation portion of the council meeting not supporting Chairman Zagorsky's verbiage within his report.

A Letter to The Editor
Political news seldom held any interest for me until Kennedy became President in 1960. Local politics held even less interest until 1964 when my wife and I bought property in New Britain where we still live today.
In the years since then, much has changed: loss of our industrial base, demographics and especially, the local political scene with its ever increasing partisan political party acrimony and just plain nastiness. Parties vying for complete political control of city hall using shameful tactics, e.g., character assassination, false accusation tactics, threatening, nepotism, muzzling of city employees, and a never ending list of violations of freedoms guaranteed by our U.S. Constitution, threaten the City.
In my opinion, never has it been as bad as it is now since Mayor O’Brien took office in November of 2011. In six months, O’Brien has: ordered a hiring freeze , hired a communications director elevated him to assistant chief of staff and gave him a $15K raise, hired another office staffer; pledged to hire 37 new police officers and flip flopped on that 3 times, lost a fire chief and elevated a deputy chief to take his place, fired the finance director, lost the Director of Municipal Development (as of 4/20/12), announced deficits if $11.5 M and then, $30 M, said he will consolidate 21 departments into 6 but has not shown anybody a plan, added $180K to the Mayor’s office budget, promised millions for schools and gave them $500K, etc., etc. In addition, there are rumors that the Mayor’s budget contains no money for the Parks and Recreation Dept. The Mayor’s answer as put forward by him by his so-called spokespeople - we don’t know what all the answers are as yet - IT’S TOO SOON TO TELL!!!
To the taxpayers: ARE YOU FEELING CONFIDENT? Would you buy a used car from this Mayor? How about all his “Chiefs/Chieftesses” of Staff? Are you happy about contributing for July 4th Fireworks and a Memorial Day Parade? Stay tuned, more “good news” is on the way.

The Mattabassett District Dilemma With Their Having to Increase Sewer and Water Rates.
FRANKSMITHSAYSNB EDITORIAL:
The Mattbassett Sewer District, Cromwell, Ct.
With the District's Board of Director's recent approval of the massive $100,000,000 expansion New Britain's current share will double because of the Bonding interest rates will equal the city's past financial support.
Therefore, our city residents will experience having to pay double the amount as they have in the past until such time the bonding has been paid off by the District.

NEW BRITAIN POLITICS NEVER CHANGE!
City Hall Source claims that the 130 Layoffs Will Never Happen! The Mayor is playing games with the city employees and their families by his proposing 130 employee layoffs to the common council.
The source at city hall states that the layoffs will never occur but an added fee shall be imposed for the services that are already provided with the taxpayer's payment of his/her taxes.
Hence, that is why they are going to call it a fee and not a tax which is added to your existing taxes.
I would call it hidden tax wouldn't you?
So the Mayor will appear to be a hero because of "No Layoffs" when this announcement is made.
What is our mayor going to say to you when the re-evaluation surfaces next October?

The Continuation of the Blame Game..
FRANKSMITHSAYSNB EDITORIAL:
Louis Salvio said it best when he stated " Obama blames Bush, Malloy Blames Rell, O'Brien Blames Stewart."
Most believe that Big Bertha Lewis, of the Working Families, is running city hall but when in reality she is at the Governor's office telling his aid to tell New Britain Democrats what to do and when.
It is amazing that they are telling Mayor O'Brien to Blame former Stewart for all the ills they imagine by being all his fault, when in reality Mayor O'Brien is a Democrat and certainly knows that all the budget approvals during Stewart's tenure were approved with a Democratic majority control council membership.
So, Mayor O'Brien, you should be blaming your "Comrades" and not Stewart.

The Announcement citing that the elevation Mr. Phil Sherwood to Deputy Chief of Staff with a $l5k in salary was a set up for the placement of as a czars as stated by city hall sources and was announced on this blog.
And a local newspaper has confirmed by substantiating this blogs weekend release in today's edition.
Ms. Klotz according to the inform sources at city hall only needs one year of service in order to accumulate sufficient time for retirement from the city.
Now with the mayor claiming to merge the Mayor's office with economic development which will add more czars to compliment of the office being proposed with Sherwood as the leading "czar."
I know the names of the new czars but, I will await for the city hall to make its announcement. I can assure the taxpayers will be very surprised to hear the names of these new czars that will be headed by the leading "Czar Sherwood."
Adding Mr. Klotz to the retirement rolls forcing the taxpayers to carry the financial burden in order to make this Democrat financially secure.
The Democratic don't care because it's not their money it’s the taxpayers.
The Mayor is hoping to layoff 130 City Workers as stated in his budget proposal thus ending the services our taxpayers have been accustomed to receiving from the city.

New Britain's Mayor Promotes His Blooter and Gives Him a $15K Raise to Boot!
Phil Sherwood Has been promoted by Mayor O'Brien from being his Communications director to deputy Chief of Staff with the above aforementioned raise.
When the general public has been recommending the removal of the former Alderman, from the Mayor's Staff, the Mayor ignores the taxpayer's recommendation with a promotion.
Its no wonder why Mayor O'Brien added $180K to his office annual budget to former Mayor Stewart's budget.

PICKETING CITY HALL???
FRANKSMITHSAYSNB EDITORIAL:
At the council meeting on April 11th, police dispatcher Marie Lausch addressed the council In objection to the mayor’s proposed layoffs of 130 city employees. Lausch threatened the council and the mayor that if there are any layoffs, Lausch would picket city hall. Now with the news emerging that the mayor chose to give Sherwood a raise, and with the mayor still stating his intentions to move forward with the layoffs, subject to council approval, while handing out such a huge raise to his personal blooter, the only question remaining is whether Ms. Lausch will have the fortitude to follow through with her plans to picket city hall.

Perhaps The Herald did not wish to make a big deal out of the announcement that Phil Sherwood has been "promoted" to "Deputy Chief of Staff!" Will Sherwood now receive a raise in his salary? Hmmm! Is that why the mayor's office budget was increased by $180K?
If Sherwood now assumes some of Chief of
Staff, Klotz's duties, will she get a decrease in
salary? FAT CHANCE! Let the O'Brien games continue!
About the fines, I'd love to know how fines will be collected from NB High School and The Hospital For Special Care and New Brite Plaza.
As with the fines on blighted properties, it appears that once again persons causing the penalties to be assessed on landlords will be held harmless!!!! How about it Mayor and Deputy Chief of Staff?
Will you put $6 to $10 million in the budget for collection of fines and then takes the funds from some department reserves to pay for the shortfall of uncollected fines? Will you sue the landlords? ???????????????????????????? If these questions seem ridiculous, it's because, SO IS THIS ILL CONCEIVED PLAN. "

" To follow up on my original post (First one posted today) that mentioned Sherwood's apparent promotion to Deputy Chief of Staff for O'Brien, I learned this morning that in fact Sherwood has been promoted and O'Brien has rewarded him with a $15K raise in pay !!!!!.
Why would the Herald bury this front page story in the "View All Headlines" section of their on-line version of the Herald? Does Sherwood still control what the Herald reports re the City of NB?
Yet O'Brien wants to lay off 130 city workers and eliminate whole departments.
Taxpayers, you be the judges! "

THE NEW O'BRIEN BUDGET CUTS!!!
Amazingly, this proposal indicates no reduction to the Police and Fire Departments and adds some $500,000 to the school budget with a total of 130 city workers to be laid off.
Why isn't the Mayor proposing a reduction to the school board and or layoffs there in order to save our taxpayers the much needed services that would be lost if the proposed city workers layoffs occurs?

April Republican Town Committee Meeting:
During the Monthly Republican Town Committee Chairman announced a secret poll to see how the committee members tend to support for the Congressional Race:
The result of this poll was astounding :
I voted for no one.
2 for Andrew Roraback
5 for Mark Greenberg
7 for Lisa Wilson- Foley
15 for Justin Bernier
All the above are excellent candidates but let us examine the possible reasons for the overwhelming win by Justin: A veteran of the Afghanistan War and is serving as an intelligence officer in the US navy Reserve.
He headed the campaign to save some 30,000 jobs at New London's Submarine base continuing Connecticut's money flow, through the employees spending needs, in the New London's area of our state.
A graduate with masters degrees in International Security & Economic Policy and international Relations. Formerly worked for a fortune 500 firm and is now self-employed.
This is the result of a secret poll but Justin apparently will win the up-coming committee endorsement for their choice.
Prior to closing the meeting The chairman asked for the endorsement for Linda McMahon with the committee's approval.

Mayor and his Blooter's Edict to Common Council Membership
An editorial that appeared in this blog dated 3-14-12 announcing the common council leadership meeting with the mayor's office were advised to only ask questions during the leadership meetings and not on the council floor. Additional one republican attending this meeting was advised that he was no longer welcome to attend because he asked too many questions. Subsequent common council meetings have proven that Mayor O'Brian and his blooter spokesman's edict have prevailed.
