CPOA'S Cry Baby

CpoA is local group that consists of about a half dozen members at best. It is also primarily a soap box for the Council Minority Leader, Alderman Louis Salvio. From time to time, they speak out on how badly he is being treated--like their statement that appeared in yesterday’s local paper (The Herald “Reader thanks Salvio for bucking the tide on the council” by Ann Mikulak, President, Citizen’s Property Owner’s Association, Inc. 10/5/08).

If only he would make some sense on something, then the Democrats would probably listen to him. As an example, just the other day he tried to change the guidelines of the council's methods of operation which is set in stone at the first meeting of the Council after the elections, and carries through until the new council is established to make their own rules.

It is apparent that Alderman Salvio didn't like the way the Democrats buffed him so badly that he employed his mouth piece (The COPA) to knock the council Majority Leader Alderman Michael Truewothy’s methods of conducting the meetings in accordance with those very same guidelines.

After reading the CPOA president’s dialog, I am sure the Democratic side of the isle can make “nice nice” for the badly treated Alderman in the future.

Unfortunately, I cannot step up the plate regarding the agenda since I am not an Alderman and able to speak aboutit first hand however,it is unfortunate that the republican Alderman(Lou Salvio)was not granted the sub-committee review (Public Hearing on the Merits) that he wished to have heard.

A resolution on how the New Britain Common Council sets their meeting agenda was submitted by Alderman Salvio at September 24th Common Council meeting.

When he introduced the resolution, he moved to send it to the Administration, Finance and Law Subcommittee for discussion and public hearing on the merits of the resolution.

There was no discussion at all by the Council on the proposal with the 11 New Britain Common Council Democrats casting a no vote.

No to sending it to subcommittee for discussion with Public Hearing.

An example of the current New Britain Common Council Democrats brand of democracy in action? No public hearing?

RICK GUINNESS, Herald staff - 10/07/2008
NEW BRITAIN - After several speeches by aldermen, who said feeding hungry people took precedence over cooling off children at Osgood Park, the Common Council's Committee on Planning Zoning and Housing Tuesday approved a lease deal that involves making a food pantry out of the Osgood Park pool house.

Kirejczyk, who had previously addressed the council and explained she had another commitment Tuesday, said the collaborative had to use its own money because $26,000 in HUD Community Development Block Grant funding had been frozen because of a conflict-of-interest investigation on the New Britain council.

Perhaps at his ripe old age, it is time for Alderman Salvio to learn the facts of life.

In partisan politics it is the majority party that controls everything in any legislative body. Whether it be the city council, state legislature, or even Congress, the majority party controls the flow of all legislation and only allows issues submitted by their party to reach the floor for consideration. In the normal course of business, if a minority party member submits an idea that is popular, the majority party has one of their own members submit a similar bill with their name on it.

Had Alderman Salvio submitted an idea worthy of consideration, I am sure one of the Democratic Alderman would have been more than happy to take credit for it. Instead, this so-called experienced alderman wastes everyone's time with a ridiculous attempt to change the playing rules in the middle of the legislative session, a set of rules he must have agreed to or at least voted on, at the onset of this legislative session. Unless, perhaps he was sleeping during that meeting.

It is time for the Minority Leader to show a little leadership, and stop wasting everyone's time with frivolous nonsense. I think we would all certainly expect a school teacher to know better.

We can only hope that the voting public will remember his constant nonsense at election time.

Don't cry Lou, the rest of the Aldermen will chip in and get you a pacifier to suck on for tonight's meeting.

The New Britain Common Council and the Committee on Planning, Zoning and Housing held a public hearing on 10/07/08 – Resolution #30318 – Re: Enter into agreement with Human Resources Agency of New Britain, Inc. for lease of Osgood Park property for sole purpose of operation of a food pantry.

Absent Aldermen Michael Trueworthy and Paul Catanzaro – Conflict of Interest.

That is a nice biography of Tim O'Brien, but what does that have to do with Lou Salvio being such a big cry baby?

Anonymous said...

Are you sure this is Lou Salvio you are referring to? I never heard of him being a cry baby, just a foul mouth, loud mouth individual who yells and swears at people.

Lou, will pampers be endorsing your re-election campaign?

Anonymous said...

Lou, I have your campaign slogan or the next election! we'll just call you "LOSE'N LOUIE"

Anonymous said...

This bashing of Lou Salvio has gone too far. Who else on the council will tell it like it is? If you all stopped taking the word of your DTC chairman as gospel truth, you might find some good advice in Alderman Salvio's words.
Also, if any of you attended any of CPOA's meetings, you would see in excess of 50 people attending. Ask Larry Hermanowski, he attends their meetings.

Anonymous said...

Just me, I have found Aldermen Phil Sherwood and Alderman Roy Centeno to "tell it like it is" as you put it, but there is one important difference: these 2 do it with finesse and without the vulgar and foul language that usually accompanies Alderman Salvio's comments.

Anonymous said...

poor baby Lou must have had his feelings hurt. he had to get his mouthpiece to defend him again.

Anonymous said...

I heard a better nickname for him at the coffee shop today:

SCREWIE LOUIE

Anonymous said...

just me 2, maybe your boy Lou will think twice before he shoots off his fat mouth again.

Anonymous said...

We democrats would like to make "nice Nice" Lou

Anonymous said...

see Lou, we can all learn to place nice and get along with each other. I guess it is all up to you!

Anonymous said...

Lou: It is apparent you do not want to play nice at all with the democrats unless his name is Bozek.

Anonymous said...

isn't he really Bozek's mouthpiece?
wonder why he has been so quiet about the racism?

At a restaurant in the greater New Britain area our waiter had on a "Obama 08" tie, again we all laughed as he had given away his political preference--just imagine the coincidence.

When the bill came - we all decided not to tip the server and explained to him that we were exploring the Obama redistribution of wealth concept.

He stood there in disbelief while we told him that we were going to redistribute his tip to someone who we deemed more in need--the homeless guy outside the restaurant. The server angrily stormed from our sight.

We went outside, gave the homeless guy $10 bill, our doggy bags, pack of cigarets and told him to thank the server inside as We've decided he could use the money more. The homeless guy was grateful.

At the end of our rather unscientific redistribution experiment we realized the homeless guy was grateful for the money he did not earn, but the waiter was pretty angry that we gave away the money he did earn even though the actual recipient deserved the money more.

We figured that the redistribution of wealth is an easier thing to swallow in concept than in a practical application.
