Republican Candidate for the Common Council Recalls Democrat's Fabrications

Having served on the Council with all the Democrats running for reelection, responses to the questions by these Democrats have been to my jaundiced eyes, totally predictable.

Time and again, New Britain taxpayers have been exposed to a series of lies by the O’Brien Administration regarding property taxes, funding sources for positions created, and funding sources for hiring lobbyists and PR firms of personal friends of Mayor O’Brien - thus far it is impossible to note any positive and tangible benefits to citizen taxpayers from these friends to the City. The Mayor’s Executive Aide and Deputy Chief of Staff are out of towners. I guess no New Britain folks need a job.

Thus far, The Department structure of the City has been decimated with twenty two departments having been cut to six. Calls to city offices requesting services or help elicit the same response, to wit, “... well, you know, we’re short staffed now.””

The most egregious lie from O’Brien, thus far is, “... there will be no increase in property taxes!” Anybody that pays taxes knows that in particular, taxes on most motor vehicles increased. Many have also seen an increase in real estate taxes.

Yet, of the Council candidates profiled  most have indicated that their proudest vote thus far was voting in favor of O’Brien’s latest City budget, a budget containing false revenue projections, e.g., revenue from the Hospital Parking Garage. This garage shall be the property of the hospital after this year is over! Stay tuned, more to come.

Oktoberfest Eight Year Deal Raises Charter Questions

Eight Year Contract with the Oktoberfest promoter that is being forced upon the next administration may be in direct violation of the city's own charter which only allows items to continue onto the next administration such as contract negotiations with the unions, construction contract still not finished, insurance plans for city retirees that may have been changed.

Obama threats against Syria are just publicity stunts.

He doesn't miss a chance to get publicity anyway he can over any issue.   He wants the world to think of him its messiah.  One journalist smartly stated that when it come Syria "our president couldn't arrange a three car funeral precession."

New Britain Common Council Sub Committee approves Oktoberfest for an eight year Contract to be signed by the Mayor.

For a period of three days we will possibly see underage drinking and many drunks roaming our downtown area and may cause accidents in our city garages.

Seeing that the promoter will not see any profit until all the city expenses are covered city police should be assigned to both city garages to protect the vehicles of the monthly parkers from hit and runs by drunk attendees leaving the Oktoberfest throughout the three day event.

Democrats Turns To Ridicules and Not Facts.

The New Britain Democrats are spending a lot of time to ridicule Erin's first fund raiser which, was held at Ken Malinowski's home.  Their Claim to fame is that O'Brien has much more than she, apparently all from out of town people like Unions, Lobbyist and etc., who are not voters in town.

Talking with many of the local democrats it appears that Erin need not raise a plug nickel for her campaign, because many of the Democrats I have talked with are very dissatisfied with O'Brien's Administration's spending.
Since the Democrats seem very worried over her running over our carpetbagger from Manchester, they are spending a lot of spin loaded with  ridicules, without addressing the real issue of overspending through bonding by the O'Brien administration.

Sadly, that is the democrats method of operation to ducking the real facts with ridicules.

Former Alderman Tells the Herald Editor Off

lou salvio wrote on Aug 22, 2013 7:48 AM:

" The Herald is providing a nice service to its readers by printing these profiles of candidates that are running in the November Municipal Election. The Herald deserves praise for this. I don't know Rha Sheen Brown personally and I'M sure his profile is accurate. I am going to take some license here however to write something that I feel is a disservice to the readers of the Herald.

Some of you may remember that I write letters to the Herald frequently; The Herald has allowed me to do this for over 40 years and I thank them for that.

When I became a candidate for office last week, I learned of a new Herald "POLICY." I had submitted a letter to the editor before I was endorsed but, the letter never appeared; this is when I learned of the new policy, namely, The Herald will no longer print letters to the editor from candidates for office. The Herald is privately owned and can run its paper however it pleases, that is understood. As a long time letter writer however, I feel that the Herald is engaging in de facto censorship of candidates, indiscriminately!

Tim O'Brien is also an announced candidate for Mayor in the November election. Yet, every day in every issue of The Herald, everything O'Brien or his paid - by taxpayer dollars - mouthpieces say to the Herald is printed. Today, O'Brien even got his picture printed in the Herald while he was supposedly signing his name to Policewoman Saccente's promotion. To me, this is biased, special consideration given by the Herald to candidate O'Brien while the Herald censor's me and potentially, all other candidates for office. All candidates shall be limited to a Herald profile. "

Local Businesses have petition the City Council, this Wednesday evening, to not allow the beer fest to occur.   Which will be forcing the businesses to close down, from Friday evening through Sunday this coming September 13-15th.

Our Two CT US Senators Blumenthal & Murphy voted for The United Nation Arms Trade Treaty

Extremely important to know.

Over the weekend, we came four votes away from the US Senate giving our Constitutional rights over to the United Nations. In a 53-46 vote, the senate narrowly passed a measure that will stop the
United States from entering into the United Nations Arms Trade Treaty.

The Statement of Purpose from the Bill reads:

"To uphold Second Amendment rights and prevent the United States from entering into the United Nations Arms Trade Treaty."

The U.N. Small Arms Treaty, which has been championed by the Obama Administration, would have effectively placed a global ban on the import and export of small firearms. The ban would have affected all private gun owners in the U.S., and had language that would have implemented an international gun registry on all private guns and ammo.

Astonishingly, 46 out of our 100 United States Senators were willing to give away our Constitutional rights to a foreign power.

Here are the 46 senators that voted to give your rights to the U.N.

Democratic Plummer Carroll has submitted his resignation, with the New Britain Town Clerk, as being a democratic candidate on the O'Brien slate which is in disarray.

He stated to this editor that he is not happy to be running on the O'Brien Slate being his reason for his resignation.    Mr. Carroll did confirmed that he heard there were major arguments made by the Democratic  candidates at the DTC headquarters last Saturday morning even though he did not attend the session but, did hear of the confrontation by most of the candidates being very unhappy with Mayor O'Brien heading their election slate , even though he would not name his source, as to who informed him of the confrontation taking place.

O'Brien Administration Erratic

For the past 21 months, the City of New Britain has been in a strangle hold of the O’Brien Administration. This has been made possible by a Common Council composed of 13 Democrats and 2 Republicans. Also, O’Brien hired an enforcer type Deputy Chief of Staff to intimidate into submission, the entire workforce of City Hall (excluding elected officials not beholden to the Democrat Party for their positions).

This scenario has developed into a drama characterized by lies, job selling and the destruction of the department system of operation of the City. Some of the readers of local media publications should remember the job selling scandal in New Britain of the late 1970s.. Not very different right now.

Immediately after being elected, O’Brien issued his first order, “A Hiring Freeze.” Immediately following that edict, the destruction of New Britain began: Phil Sherwood was hired as Communications Director soon to become Deputy Chief of Staff with a continually modified salary; the PR Firm of Roy Occhigrosso for $100 thousand; the hiring of Brigitte Brown for $46 thousand; the hiring of D. Pudlin for $ tens of thousands; the hiring of Executive Aide M. Baczewski of Berlin for ? tens of thousands; hiring of Fernando Marroquin ( Sherwood’s replacement) for $ 60 thousand - both Sherwood and Marroquin have addresses at the same firm in Hartford. Etc., etc. In other words, Sherwood could be able to run New Britain from afar. So much for a hiring freeze. Now, O’Brien may be involved in creating yet another position - Events Coordinator - that may be handed to Matt Dabrowski, candidate for Alderman on the O’Brien ticket. Sources say the position was posted by the HRA of New Britain. Readers may recall that HRA was relieved of a tax burden (over $250,000) by a questionable - possibly illegal - City fiat. Recall my mention of the job selling scandal in my first paragraph! I guess O’Brien doesn’t care about history or that New Britain people are unemployed. Just hire cronies, no one cares..

So how about the Common Council?  They are ecstatic about O’Brien? In a recent Herald profile, Alderman Centeno stated that his proudest moment was voting for O’Brien’s budget. Really! It’s like Edgar Bergen having 13 puppets. Stay tuned, more to come.

Is Sherwood running Mayor's office by remote control from New Hampshire?

FRANKSMITHSAYSNB EDITORIAL

Fernando Marroquin-Saavedra, MD. has been hired to replace Phil Sherwood as the Deputy Chief of Staff in the mayor's office.  Some interesting questions have surfaced about Dr. Marroquin-Saavedra's hiring.  For example, why do the public statements made to the local newspapers announcing the doctor's hiring omit the surname "Saavedra" from his name?  Is someone trying to hide something like maybe possibly a connection to another person named Saavedra?

Additionally we have learned that Dr Marroquin-Saavedra worked for Grassroots Strategies Inc, a Hartford based community organizing activist group that happens to be located at 30 Arbor Street--the same building that houses CCAG--Phil Sherwood's former employer, and the Connecticut Working Families Party.  If that is not enough of a coincidence, then consider this:  According to the Secretary of State, Philip Sherwood with an address of City Hall Room 204, 27 West Main Street, New Britain, CT 06051, is listed as a current Board Member of Grassroots Strategies, Inc.

The fact that Dr. Marroquin-Saavedra worked for an organization that Phil Sherwood is involved in running gives the appearance that the doctor is a plant placed here by Sherwood to continue his radical agenda.  Besides, if Sherwood was able to run the mayor by remote control while he was here in New Britain, then why can't he run the mayor's new Deputy Chief of Staff by long distance?

 Stewart Holds Well-Attended Fundraiser
Event a Momentum Builder for Campaign
NEW BRITAIN, CONN. (August 12th, 2013) - More than 90 people attended an Aug. 8 fundraiser to benefit Erin Stewart's campaign for Mayor of New Britain.

The event, held at the historic Stanley Street home of Kenneth Malinowski, attracted several Connecticut state senators as well as current and former city officials.

"The level of support I have been receiving has been overwhelming," Stewart said. "The support is coming from seniors and from college students. It is coming from property owners and from the business community. I am so grateful to everyone for their help and encouragement. We are united, and we all agree that New Britain can do better. New Britain wants - and craves - new leadership. I hear that message from taxpayers every day."

Stewart said she was honored to have former New Britain Democrat Mayor William J. McNamara in attendance. "I have tremendous respect for Mayor McNamara and was so appreciative that he came," Stewart said. "Like me, Mayor McNamara loves and believes in New Britain. He cares deeply about New Britain residents, and he is very concerned about the direction our city is going."

Stewart said the presence of Democrats and Republicans at the fundraiser is evidence of her wide appeal to voters. "To turn New Britain around, we need a leader who will bring together city residents," Stewart said. "As mayor of New Britain, I will make sure everyone has a seat at the table and that everyone's voice is heard. Unity will bring New Britain back. As mayor, we will have a government of the people. The taxpayers are my priority."

During a 10-minute speech to the crowd which was interrupted several times by applause, the 26-year-old Stewart thanked the members of her Republican slate.

"Team Stewart should not be underestimated," Stewart said. "This team can change our city for the better. We are full of energy, we are diverse, and we are united in one goal: to take our city back. We hear the words of encouragement from city taxpayers. We feel our momentum building by the day. Sick of the tax hikes, New Britain? Want better leadership? So do we. We will continue to be out and about in New Britain neighborhoods discussing our vision for New Britain's future."

PROMISES MADE THAT WAS NEVERMENT TO BE KEPT.

FRANKSMITHSAYSNB EDITORIAL:

During his last election Mayor O’Brien made many promises that were not kept.    The biggest of the promises that the taxpayer’s will recall during the next election day will be his promise to not raise taxes.   And we all know what happened to that promise.

However, the enormous bonding issuance by this administration amounting to an approximate sum of $65,000,000.   With the city having its bond rating already downgraded  may soon hear of another downgrade within the near future.

Alderman Jamie Giantonio stated it right, at a recent council Sub-committee meeting," over the years we rely on one time monies to fill a gap and then that gap creates another gap and so on."

Should the city experience another downgrade, will we be able carry the higher interest cost, associated with all the bonding that occurred?
