Alderman Phil Sherwood has publicly and openly pledged his support for providing the police officers a raise. While I support them in their efforts and believe they deserve whatever they get for the rotten things they must do for this city on a daily basis, I would like to know why Alderman Sherwood doesn't seem to be willing to support such an effort for the firefighters of this city? He continues to avoid this question which makes me believe he doesn't think that firefighters deserve the same attention. There are many of us who await his explanation.

Connecting the Dots -Aldermen Michael Trueworthy, Elena Trueworthy (HRA) and Paul Catanzaro (HRA)?

The New Britain Common Council and the Committee on Planning, Zoning and Housing held a public hearing on 10/07/08 – Resolution #30318 – Re: Enter into agreement with Human Resources Agency of New Britain, Inc. for lease of Osgood Park property for sole purpose of operation of a food pantry.

Absent at the public hearing Aldermen Michael Trueworthy and Paul Catanzaro – Conflict of Interest?

What exactly does a “Community Organizer“- do? Senator Barack Obama was a Community Organizer in Chicago – and the answer has left many Americans asking themselves that question?

New Britain resident Elena Trueworthy is also a Community Organizer whose work centered on organizing low-income families in New Britain’s North-Oak neighborhoods

As the point person in this task the Human Resources Agency of New Britain (HRA) hired Elena Trueworthy, a 25 –year-old University of Connecticut graduate, with a savvy grasp of interpersonal relations and a flawless command of English and Spanish in the job of engaging Puerto Ricans residents as a political force.

How Community Organizer Elena Trueworthy’s job of organizing low-income families in New Britain’s North-Oak neighborhoods laid the political ground work that contributed to state senator Tom Bozek losing his senate seat.

When the wife of Alderman Michael Trueworthy was asked what she learned from her experience as a community organizer in New Britain’s North-Oak neighborhood, Elena stated in the publication “FREE TO GROW’ - that community organizer should be patient with the process.

And when trying to build a partnership, identify the other person’s self-interest. What’s in it for them? People are more likely to enter into a partnership if they see what they will get out of it”.

Elena strategy was to identify a small number of committed North-Oak residents and build on them. She began by going apartment to apartment explaining what a Community Organizer was all about. It’s all about visibility – to recruit prospective community leaders from the ranks of low-income families, primarily mothers like Sylvia Cruz who became an Alderwomen in the City of New Britain’s third ward.

When Elena’s Hispanic residents became Register Voters the four-term of Democratic incumbent Senator Tom Bozek ended. He lost his Senate seat to Don DeFronzo.

I would like to know why the Democratic Party Chairman refuses to do anything about an unrepentant member of his committee who repeatedly runs on the Republican ticket challenging the endorsed candidates of his own party. Bozek contiues to claim to be a "GOOD DEMOCRAT" while opposing the candidate the very committee he is a member of endorsed.

The state central committee seems to have no problem challenging Senator Lieberman, and all he did was give a speech. When will the local committee follow the lead of the central committee and reign in a member of the Democratic Town Committee who so clearly dislikes Democrats? Maybe it is about time Bozek joined the party he so clearly identifies with, but either way should he really be allowed to remain a member of the Democratic Town Committee?

I thought the firefighters were leaving the department for reasons other than pay?

It's pretty clear why officers leave New Britain. Health Care, Pension, and pay. Leadership is strong in the Police department but it's more challenging to raise a family as a Police Officer in New Britain than it is in most communities.
Both departments should be getting paid at or above what the competition is paying. The issues I've heard from the firefighters as being major concerns oddly enough have not been about pay. The concerns expressed to me from firefighters have been about mostly about respect leadership, fairness, and safety issues.

OPEN FORUM -Connecting the Dots?

The New Britain Herald -10/07/08.
After several speeches by Aldermen, who said feeding hungry people took precedence over cooling off children at Osgood Park, the Common Council's Committee on Planning Zoning and Housing Tuesday approved a lease deal that involves making a food pantry out of the Osgood Park pool house.

Kirejczyk, who had previously addressed the council and explained she had another commitment Tuesday 10/07/08, said the collaborative had to use its own money because $26,000 in HUD Community Development Block Grant funding (Human Resources Agency - (HRA) had been frozen because of a conflict-of-interest investigation of the New Britain council.

The numerous Emails FCTO receives, reflects the fear of Connecticut taxpayers from national issues to local issues with the failure of financial institutions, the economy, job loss and healthcare.

For this reason FCTO will continue to offer coverage on these important national and local issues. It is time for the council to do something to reign in the out of control spending and bring taxes down. Recently, Alderman Hermanowski was quoted as saying that property taxes have recently risen as much as 180% on rental properties forcing the landlords to pass on the cost to the tenants, which in turn forced many tenants to move out, leaving landlords to be stuck with large numbers of vacant units.

With this information in mind, isn't it about time for the council to appoint a committee to investigate spending and find ways to reduce spending? The end result would be lower taxes for everyone.

taxes going up and up will not hurt people on the city council. it certainly won;t hurt democrats. If there was any logic to that the democrats would not have gone 15 for 15 when stewart bear lucian.

Council voted against this past budget that raised taxes.

On a much more serious note and because this is an open thread.

Keeping political spin and name calling out of it, what do you folks think about the market(s)?
It fell -600 again at one point this morning.

I've been pondering myself which is more likely, whether 10 years from now half of us will look back and barely remember this downturn, or will this be something my 3 year old son reads about in history class as being a defining moment in our history.

Layoffs may be rquired to lower the expenses but the Alderman always claim that wages are a fixed cost. Then start layoffs and the wages will no longer be a fixed cost. My boss laid me off three times when business was slow and he did cut cost. Why can't city hall?

Anonymous said...

Alderman Sherwood: You and your council members have not cut off the continued expenses or at least lowered the expenses.

That is why all our taxes have been raised. How can you say you haven't rasied taxes when I we are all paying much more?

Anonymous said...

Anonymous was very correct by saying that we are paying higher taxes. What Alderman Sherwood seems to not recall is that some where in this blog is Alderman'S Hermanowski's comments with his saying- Do we stop spending? No? We just keep on spending. So Aldermans put a stop to all the spending like serviceman on leave.

Anonymous said...

Alderman Sherwood wants to know what we think of the problems on Wall Street? The Democrats caused this entire mess, and his buddy Barrack Obama is right in the middle of it all and has much to do directly with the cause.

The problems date back to Jimmy Carter, who passed the Community Reinvestment Act, which required that banks give mortgages to low income people whether they could afford them or not. This began the use of the banks and mortgage companies as welfare agencies. Under the Clinton Administration, Attorney General Janet Reno used the Justice Department to go around threatening criminal prosecutions against banks for not doling out enough money to minorities for mortgages whether they could afford them or not. This Clinton doctrine coerced the mortgage industry to hand out millions of loans to people who clearly could not afford to pay them back, and no one seemed to care if they would ever be paid back as long as we were putting enough low income people into homes of their own.

About 2 years ago, Republicans, including John McCain sounded the warning in the Senate that a melt down was imminent on Wall Street and proposed government oversight to prevent further abuses on Wall Street. The Senate Democrats, including Barrack Hussein Obama, and Joe "hair plugs" Biden blocked every effort to stop this madness!
Many of the Democrats accused the effort of being "racist" and even commended Franlyn Raines on how efficiently he was running Fannie Mae!

Now to no one's surprise, a high percentage of these loans were never paid back, but Mr. Raines was paid $90 million over a four year period--mostly based on bonuses for the number of loans he was able to dole out (whether good or bad). Not surprisingly, Mr. Raines is or has been a high level financial advisor for the Obama campaign. This is not surprising since Senator Obama was the No.2 benefactor for political donations from Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac--second only to Connecticut's own Senator Chris Dodd (the recipient of the special "VIP package" from Countrywide).

Now amazingly, the Democrats would attempt to convince the American public that those bad Republicans would be to blame for the problem and that Barrack Obama was the sole Senator who attempted to warn of the impending disaster. The biggest problem with this myth is that the Senate bill intended to prevent the madness has Senator McCain's name in the title and the Senate record is clear that a group of Republicans warned of the problem and attempted to prevent it, but they were unable to do anything about it because their efforts were blocked by the Democrats.

Now as a result of the Democrats and their socialist mortgage programs, the American taxpayers are paying back the money lost for the loans that were doled out to millions of people who couldn't afford to pay them back.

Give the Democrats another chance, and they will do it again!

Anonymous said...

I have a question? If it is true that the democrats voted against the budget as Alderman Sherwodd stated, who approved the massive tax increases we are all paying? Maybe it is time to cut the fat, and if it takes layoffs, then layoff baby layoff.

It's even under investigation in Bridgeport, Conn., for allegedly registering a 7-year-old girl to vote, making here a 27 age girl according to the State Elections Enforcement Commission.

Socialist Tsunami Drives Down Economy, causes world markets to crash:

Alderman Sherwood in response to campaign rhetoric about the Republicans, maybe you should check your facts and ask your buddies Obama, Biden, Chris Dodd, and Barney Frank why they took all that money from the crooks on Wall Street while at the same time blocking efforts by the Republicans, including John McCain who warned of the impending disaster and tried to stop it over 2 years ago, and would have prevented it, if only the Democrats didn't block their efforts in Congress. It was the Democrats who praised Franklyn Raines for his spectacular running of Fannie Mae, and actually called the efforts to reign in the out of control nonsense as "racist." Now you got just what the Democrats fought so hard for, while lining their pockets with all those generous donations. Let's not forget that Chris Dodd got more money than any Senator, followed by Number 2: Barrack Obama. Now they try to get away with lying to the public by blaming the Republicans whom they, the Democrats, blocked from preventing this 2 years ago.
By the way, the Investor's Business Daily which will come out on Monday, October 13, will report that a team of 52 of the world's leading economists predict that it is the threat of a socialist taking over control of the United States and the possibility of an end to capitalism in the world that is driving the markets down. They call it a SOCIALIST TSUNAMI and predict that if Obama is elected, the recent crisis as we currently call it in today's economy "will be a routine affair in tomorrow's."

According to the article 100 economist, including 5 Nobel winners have signed a letter agreeing with this statement. See "Investors' Real Fear: A socialist Tsunami" Investor's Business Daily, October 13, 2008.

Hopefully the public will wake up before it is too late and realize it is the Democrats that delivered them this disaster, at least that is how the world's leading economists see it.

They said that foreign investors are panicking and our economy is going to crash like we have never seen, thanks to the socialist risk. They said the world economy may collapse because of it.

From Connecticut Post
October 7, 2008

HARTFORD -- The State Elections Enforcement Commission has opened an investigation into allegations that a community activist organization submitted at least 10 false voter-registration cards in Bridgeport.

One of the phony registrations was for a 7-year-old girl in the Marina Village housing complex, whose age was listed as 27 on the voter card.

“We have many more complaints,” Borges said Tuesday, adding that the 10 are just highlights. He said he went to Marina Village personally and interviewed the 7-year-old.

ACORN filed more than 8,000 voter cards in the city during its registration drive, but Borges said the piles of cards are riddled with duplicates and false information that was found by him and his staff.

Borges submitted evidence including the registration of a Stratford woman who said she was “pressured” into completing a card with a Bridgeport address.

Another registration contained two voters registration forms with different signatures for the same person.

Emeline Bravo Blackwood, chairwoman of the East End ACORN chapter in Bridgeport, said in a statement Tuesday night that she is “proud” of the local and statewide drives that have registered 20,000 new state voters.

WASHINGTON – Republican National Committee (RNC) Chairman Robert M. “Mike” Duncan released the following statement today in response to attacks against Republican volunteers and supporters, and acts of vandalism against Republican Victory centers.

“There is no place for violence, vandalism, or intimidation in politics. As a result of violence against Republican volunteers and supporters, and acts of vandalism against Republican Victory centers, the RNC has redirected funds previously allocated for get-out-the-vote (GOTV) efforts – totaling at least two millions dollars – for 24-hour security at volunteer centers across the country. We are making this investment in protective security because our staff and volunteers deserve to know they are safe as they work to elect the next President of the United States.

“I am appalled that the RNC must take this action. The fraudulent activities of ACORN combined with thuggish behavior of intimidation, violence, and vandalism on the part of others are clear signs that our opponents don’t believe in free and fair elections.

“I am confident on Election Day that voters will reject Barack Obama’s plans to raise taxes, increase spending, and implement government-run health care, in addition to the violent, intimidation tactics that have been adopted by Democrat activists supporting his candidacy.”

it goes back to how Bill Clinton originally described Obama:

"A typical Chicago Thug"

Anonymous said...

FOR years, ACORN had combined manipulation of the CRA with intimidation-protest tactics to force banks to lower credit standards. Its crusade, with help from Democrats in Congress, to push these high-risk "subprime" loans on banks is at the root of today's economic meltdown.

As ACORN ran its campaigns against local banks, it quickly hit a roadblock. Banks would tell ACORN they could afford to reduce their credit standards by only a little - since Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, the federal mortgage giants, refused to buy up those risky loans for sale on the "secondary market."

That is, the CRA wasn't enough. Unless Fannie and Freddie were willing to relax their credit standards as well, local banks would never make home loans to customers with bad credit histories or with too little money for a down payment.

So ACORN's Democratic friends in Congress moved to force Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac to dispense with normal credit standards. Throughout the early '90s, they imposed ever-increasing subprime-lending quotas on Fannie and Freddie.

But then the Republicans won control of Congress - and Rep. Roukema scheduled her hearing. ACORN went into action to protect its golden goose.

ACORN's intimidation tactics, and its alliance with Democrats in Congress, triumphed. Despite their 1994 takeover of Congress, Republicans' attempts to pare back the CRA were stymied.

Instead, Democrats like Rep. Barney Frank (D-Mass.)and Senator Chris Dodd (D-CT) and Reps. Kennedy and Waters allied with the Clinton administration to broaden the acceptability of risky subprime loans throughout the financial system, thus precipitating our current crisis.

When the ACORN-Democrat alliance finally succeeded in blocking Republicans from restoring fiscal sanity in 1995, the way was open to virtually unlimited lending quotas - and to a whole new way of thinking about credit standards.

Urged on by ACORN, congressional Democrats and the Clinton administration helped push tolerance for high-risk loans through every sector of the banking system - far beyond the sort of banks originally subject to the CRA.

So it was the efforts of ACORN and its Democratic allies that first spread the subprime virus from the CRA to Fannie and Freddie and thence to the entire financial system.

Soon, Democratic politicians and regulators actually began to take pride in lowered credit standards as a sign of "fairness" - and the contagion spread.

And when financial institutions across the board saw that they could make money by trading what would once have been considered junk loans, the profit motive kicked in. But the bad seed that started it all was ACORN.

HOW does Barack Obama fit into all of this? Obama has been a key ally of Chicago ACORN going back to his days as a community organizer.

One of the common themes of modern American history is that liberals will create a problem by ill-advised government action, then benefit from it politically by proposing ever more intrusive government action to solve it. That appears to be happening again in connection with today's credit crisis that effects all Taxpayers.

ATTN: Mr John McNamara. It is about time you show some leadership. You could follow Senator Kevin Sullivan's example. In July 2002, Senator Sullivan announced that because Bozek was challenging his own party by running on the Republican ticket against Donald DeFronzo, that he was stripping Bozek of all committee assignments and also banned Bozek from attending any Democratic caucus meetings. This was punishment for his opposing his own party in the upcoming election. This is an example of the kind of leadership we need from you. Are you going to step up and do your job or is it time we start looking for another parry chairman. You have been silent on this matter for far too long. The rest of your party needs to hear from you on this subject. How can you just sit on your hands and continue to allow a member of your own committee to challenge your candidates and simply do nothing about it?

nice point about Obama's connection to ACORN, but don't overlook how more and more Economists are agreeing that it is a SOCIALIST TSUNAMI that is causing the crash in the world markets because of the threat of a socialist taking over the United States and the threatened end of capitalism in the world. It is becoming more clear each day that just the threat of an Obama presidency has the world financial market panicking to get their money out of here before he can get his socialist hands on it with his oppressive taxes. The predictions are that if he wins the election, the economic disaster will be like nothing we have ever seen before. Mickey Mouse tried to register to vote in Florida this summer, but Orange County elections officials rejected his application, which had an ACORN stamp on it.

With more than 450,000 member families nationwide — 14,000 in Florida — ACORN is a grass roots advocacy group focused on health care, wages, affordable housing and foreclosure.

The GOP accuses ACORN of registration fraud all over the country. In Las Vegas, authorities said the group's petitions included the names of the starting lineup of the Dallas Cowboys.

CORN's problems included applications with unreadable handwriting, missing information, signatures that didn't match those on file, altered dates of birth or Social Security numbers, applications for people already registered to vote and names that appeared repeatedly, often with different addresses.

Republicans also accuse Sen. Barack Obama of trying to distance himself from ACORN, which he represented in a federal lawsuit in 1995.

ACORN's political action committee has endorsed Obama, but the group says its voter registration efforts are nonpartisan.

Mother of All Mistakes

It matters not if you lean to the left or to the right, the following is
worth a read, at the very least it should receive some thought before we
set the U.S. on a course that will be impossible to change.

This is an email from BGEN James Cash, USAF (Ret), who has written some
very good articles on the subject. Here he recommends someone else's
email that impressed him, and scared him.

General Cash Wrote:

Occasionally, I receive an email that I agree with so totally I want to
pass to everyone on my list. This is one of those emails. I have
approval from the writer to forward the attached, and feel free to post
it on your websites, or forward to friends. The election of Obama as
President of the United States will mark the apex, and beginning
downslide of this Republic. The only question is the rate at which the
downfall will occur. The writer of this essay is Jerry Molen. Jerry is a
great friend and an Academy Award winning Hollywood Producer. He did
Jurassic Park, Hook, Rainman, and many more class movies. He won the
Academy Award for Schindler's List. Jerry is one of the very few clear
thinking conservatives that I know from Hollywood. We need to get this
out to as many as possible to include liberal Democrats. We are about
to make the Mother-of-All-Mistakes, because the Republican Party gave us
no reliable alternative. In my opinion, if the conservative movement
does not rally behind the only alternative left to us, this country will
become a true Socialist State within the next two Presidential terms.
Ladies and Gentlemen, this is the most grave situation this nation has
faced in my lifetime.

Jim Cash B/G, USAF, Ret.

Jerry Molen writes:

'Election woes defined by prose.....'

We just experienced an overhyped, positively outrageous primary election
season that has left me cold and wondering where the heads of our
citizens are hiding out. Must be someplace where the sun doesn't get to
very often.

At one time in my life I was a determined, dedicated and ever loyal
registered Democrat. Then something happened (Lyndon Baines Johnson)
that turned my life around and gave me much pause as to the veracity of
a party that dwelt on and fed off of the most unfortunate among us. Some
of those unfortunates were in their positions in life by way of their
own choosing and others were there by circumstance. But always, always
with a door open to them to reach for new heights, achieve new goals;
change their lives for the better. And also, always ever present were
the bottom feeders doing everything they could to take advantage of
those who had not or have not seen the light of better days and times,
nor realizing they were in fact the masters of their own destiny. They
had come to believe that they were dependent on those in power in
Washington and that they would look out for them and take care of their
every need. They are still waiting and expecting all those promised
freebies.

Most people aren't even aware that the Democrats ruled Washington for
over 40 years. It wasn't until 1994 when the so called Gingrich
Revolution changed that for a short period of time. Nor do people
realize that it was the Dem's that created the failed policies of the
many entitlement programs that are falling apart right before our eyes.
Please do not think I find the Republicans blameless in all this. They
too, suffer from ego inflation and greed motivators built into the
system. It's just that the past few months I've listened to the rantings
and railings of the left in America calling for more giveaways and
better ways to obtain the proverbial 'free lunch'.

I think that to sum up my feelings and why I am so set apart from those
within the circles of political power and influence can be illustrated
best by a quote by noted basketball legend and talk show co-host Charles
Barkley:

'Poor people have been voting for Democrats for the last fifty
years....and they are still poor'.

And now with the election results comes the promises of 'change'.
'Change we can believe in.' 'Change for the future'. When in fact if you
really, I mean REALLY listen to what the new messiah is asking for, is
not 'change of policy' or 'change for the better'. He is warning all of
us that he wants our change all right, 'loose change', pocket change',
social change and political change......So people wake up. For if you
don't, the change you get may not be the change you were expecting or
the change you wanted.

To close my screed, I want to leave you with some JM predictions in the
event the junior Senator from Illinois becomes President and especially
if the House and Senate are veto proof.

1). Strict new gun laws will be enacted even though he promised he would
not.

2). The phrase 'In God We Trust' will be removed from all currency.

3). He will back away from his pledge to Israel and leave them to the
wolves of Islam.

4). Hillary Clinton will be named to the Supreme Court.

5). Tax rates will return to their highest levels in 30 years.

6). The capital gains tax will be at least double current levels.

7). Retired Army General Wesley Clark will be named Secretary of
Defense.

8). The borders will be 'basically open' to all comers. Especially those
from the Middle East and South America.

9). Amnesty will be granted to all illegals now in the U.S regardless of

10). The war in Iraq will be brought to an abrupt end and the results
will be tragic and the consequences to our military will be devastating.

I realize that my predictions may not sit too well with some people and
the best we could all hope for is that I am totally wrong. Any bets?

BARRACK OBAMA: I WILL STAND WITH THE MUSLIMS:

Below are a few lines from Obama's books; In his words!

From Dreams of My Father: 'I ceased to advertise my mother's race at the age of 12 or 13, when I began to suspect that by doing so I was ingratiating myself to whites.'

From Dreams of My Father : 'I found a solace in nursing a pervasive sense of grievance and animosity against my mother's race.'

From Dreams of My Father: 'There was something about him that made me wary, a little too sure of himself, maybe. And white.'

From Dreams of My Father: 'It remained necessary to prove which side you were on, to show your loyalty to the black masses, to strike out and name names.'
From Dreams of My Father: 'I never emulate white men and brown men whose fates didn't speak to my own. It was into my father's image, the black man, son of Africa , that I'd packed all the attributes I sought in myself , the attributes of Martin and Malcolm, DuBois and Mandela.'

And FINALLY the Most Damming one of ALL of them!!!

From Audacity of Hope: 'I will stand with the Muslims should the political winds shift in an ugly direction.'

And my favorite quote of Mr. Obama:
WHITE FOLKS GREED RUNS A WORLD IN NEED.

By Rick Green Hartford Courant October 15, 2008.

U.S. Senator Chris Dodd declines to release more Countrywide Financial loan documents.

U.S. Senator Christopher Dodd says that despite previous statements, he has no immediate plans to release any more documents related to the controversial mortgages he obtained in 2003 through Countrywide Financial Corp.
"I've answered that question so long ago," Dodd told reporters after a rousing lunchtime speech to the annual conference of the Connecticut Housing Coalition at the Connecticut Convention Center in Hartford. "It is what it is."
"There is nothing to the story and I'm just not going to keep on repeating it,'' he said. "There are issues people are worried about ... losing their homes ... getting this economy back on its feet."

Pressed if they ever would be released, Dodd responded, "not right now. No." A Dodd aide called me later to say that the senator "will release them and he still intends to do that. He intends to do that, not at this time.''

Why wait? If not now, when?
I couldn't agree more that there are more important issues facing this country. Honestly, I don't think any one is really that surprised that influential senators get the V.I.P. treatment. So why not just come clean and move on?

The thing is, I happen to agree with 99 percent of his speech before the housing coalition, where he said he would press for a special session of Congress in November to reform bankruptcy laws, foreclosure and the credit card industry.

I'm glad that Dodd was there to hold the Bush Administration accountable when they demanded a no-questions-asked $700 billion rescue for Wall Street This is what our senior senator should be doing. Now we have a few questions about his mortgage deal and he gets all annoyed?

A top elected official at the heart of the Congressional bail-out of Wall Street banks, a man who exhorts his constituents to stand up for the poor and the little guy, owes us a fuller explanation about the mortgages he got through Countrywide.

Last summer Dodd said he would be releasing more documents stemming from a transaction that may have handed him a sweetheart "Friend of Angelo" deal because he knew Angelo Mozilo, the Countrywide CEO at the time.

Thanks to Conde Naste Portfolio magazine, we know that Dodd did receive a favorable deal from Countrywide, saving him thousands of dollars. We know the terms of the loans. What more could the documents possibly reveal about this mortgage deal?

The longer he waits, the more all of us who aren't V.I.Ps wonder.

Mayor Stewart:

I was delighted to hear of your plans to veto the council’s recent appointment of Leslie Jacobs to the Board of Education and I commend you for your plan to do the right thing for the children of this city.

The Republican Party worked hard to find a suitable appointee for this vacancy and they found what they believed was the right person in Jamie Giantonio. Mr. Giantonio has a background in teaching and is the parent of two young children, so he has a vested interest in the well being of our educational system.

Filling of this vacancy, being a Republican seat on the Board, should be left up to the leadership of the Republican Party, free from interference of Democratic Aldermen who appear to have other interests besides the welfare of the children in mind.

The public and more specifically, the parents, agree. I have heard from a number of parents who are simply outraged over this entire process. A long line of public members, mostly parents, spoke against this appointment at the council meeting last Wednesday, but the council simply chose to ignore them. I urge you to listen to the people of this city and do what is right for our children.

VETO THE APPOINTMENT OF LESLIE JACOBS!
