New GOP Sheriff In Town

To The New Britain Town Crier: It is great to read of your revelation that the State GOP has selected New Britain for their state headquarters on Ellis Street.
They too have recognized the socialistic individuals that have organized in town that are forcing their garbage type of ideology down the citizen’s throats with their media diatribe.

It is great to have this new combative organization known to support a full slate of well intentioned individuals that will serve in the best interest of the electorate on our city council, boards and commissions.

It will be interesting to watch the DTC attempting to change their usual methods of brain washing their ideological beliefs into a smoke screen appearance which will not deceive our citizens.

To the 13 “untouchables” of the democratic town council membership be reminded –there’s a new sheriff in town-------the State GOP.

Can't wait to see what appointment/handout you get as you curry favor with Mayor Stewart and the Republicans.

Better help them register some more Republicans to accomplish your goals.

After this takes hold, you won't be able to elect a Democrat to dog catcher!

The politics of 2009 will be dominated by a continuation and deepening of the global Depression. Under the guise of stimulating the economy, look for Obama to pursue a radical, socialist agenda that will bring America into conformity with the government domination of health care and the economy that prevails in the European Union. When the dust clears, the economy will still be in the tank. The new president's stimulation packages will do little or nothing to abate the depression, but they will transform American life and politics. For his part, Obama will take advantage of his built-in majorities in Congress to pass his agenda, but will suffer rapidly dropping ratings. By the end of the year, he will be as radioactive as Bush is today.

With all due respect to Frank Smith, the 13 Democrats, particularly the "3 Musketeers"..Trueworthy, Sherwood and Catanzaro,
are the ones that will help register more Republicans than ever in New Britain. Peter Gostin has his work cut out for him when he officially becomes Republican Registrar of Voters.

Frank is a "Good Democrat" just like Senator Bozek is.

Maybe he just dislikes communists like many rank and file Democrats!

Glad to hear an organization is renting space in New Britain...Where did the State Central Republicans move from?

Anonymous said...

When you talk about left wing loonies, don't let Kochel and Saavedra off the hook. The BOE spends more of your tax dollars than the Council. They are all cut from the same cloth. It all started with Joe Harper and his protege, Defronzo.

Anonymous said...

"Where did the State Central Republicans move from?"
They came from Hartford. I'm sure they take all the grassroots experience applied in Hartford to aid the local GOP there and help out here in New Britain!!!

The republicans aren't even the minority party in Hartford. It's the Working Family party!!!

Technically the New Britain Council has more Working family party candidates than republicans as well. If the Working Family party had chose they could have elected one of their candidates to minority leader, knocking salvio out to be the ultra-micro-minority party leader. There's nothing in City charter or state statutes that calls for a minor party to be one of the two major political parties. The only catch is that the Working Families party could not caucus with the democrats. I think that would be hilarious!!! I bet they will do that next time, working families party is taking over the state...

Since Alderman Paul D. Catanzaro might be tossing his hat into the ring as a Democrat candidate for Mayor's slot in 2009...and has developed his own Website...but no posting of what year he graduated from New Britain High School- what year did he graduate from high school 19__?

A report in today’s New London Day newspaper states that The Journal Register Company who owns the New Britain Herald that it is closing many of their weeklies in our state.

It is very sad that the local readership will be experiencing the loss of their news source.

It is hopeful that the local business owners will at least attempt to re-establish this important local news and inexpensive advertising source.

Maybe the State officials should be involved in finding a purchaser as they are with their attempts in accomplishing the very same results for the Bristol Press and the New Britain Herald.

Friday night: December 19/08, the Connecticut Young Republicans hosted their annual Holiday Party at the Hardware City Tavern in New Britain.

Despite the reality of a year that saw Republicans lose the White House, the Congress, and take tough beatings in the State Legislature, more than 50 18-40 year old Republicans got together in New Britain for a few beers and good company.

State Rep. Sean Williams, NB Mayor Tim Stewart, and Chairman Healy each took turns articulating goals for the new year 2009.

Why does McNamara even bother running one of his liberal loons against Tim Stewart. Clearly Tim is here to stay for as long as he wants!

Conservative talk radio drives liberals crazy -- or, rather, it drives them crazier. They think it's unfair that more people want to listen to conservative talk radio than to liberal talk radio.

Sure, conservative radio hosts have a built-in audience unavailable to liberals: people in cars on their way to some sort of job. We "crazy right-wingers" call that a competitive environment. Liberals hate that kind of environment - because they lose.

Enter the "Fairness Doctrine," the most Orwellian name since "Barack Obama's Department Of Defense."

What do they mean by "fairness?"

To liberals, "fairness" means that the government will require radio stations that broadcast popular talk radio hosts such as Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity Mike Gallagher and Mark Levin to also carry unpopular talk show hosts, known as "liberals."

When will Alderman Paul D. Catanzaro make the announcement that he will campaign as the 2009 Democrat candidate for Mayor... on his own Website...

Alderman Catanzaro is involved in many organizations, departments and clubs in the city of New Britain, CT.

To see what he is involved in read below...

* Assistant Majority Leader
* AFSCME Local 1186 (Former President)
* NAACP

* New Britain Central Labor Council

But Lucian was a liberal Democrat. The people know where to turn when they want true leadership, and that is to a Republican. Why else would we have a Republican Governor here in Connecticut, a Republican Governor who has had the highest approval rating of any governor in America!

Look at how the people of California recalled the Democratic Governor to replace him with Republican Arnold Schwarzenegger who was then reelected by a landslide! There couldn't be a state more full of liberals, but yet they know that a Republican is where to turn for real leadership!

Thank God that Paul Catanzaro is interested in serving the City of New Britain as Mayor in 2009 in so many diverse ways. Most people in town have no idea what is going on and couldn't care less about getting involved in bettering their city.

Mr. Catanzaro has always been interested in New Britain and her people. He puts in endless hours of his own time as an Alderman and we take umbrage with anyone that would dare cast him in a different light. Furthermore, we would never question his integrity as Mayor.

Any allegations of a true conflict of interest are way off base. At least he has interest which is more than we can say about many of his detractors, including comments Frank Smith Says NB...

Anonymous said...

In regards to Mr. Catanzaro's qualifications to be our next mayor, surely, you jest! Stewart will blow him away. Catanzaro's reputation preceeds him.

Anonymous said...

The person who is thanking "God" that Paul C. might run for mayor, have you ever attended a council meeting and listened to what the lug has to say?

Anonymous said...

Anyone who could suggest that Paul Catzanaro is good for the people of New Britain must be high on some really wild trip!

If Paul Catzanaro really cared about the poor needy people of New Brtian, why hasn't he resigned from the council under the edict from HUD?

Instead he remains on his power trip in total conflict of interest, which is blocking the desparetly needed federal funding for so many needy poor residents of New Britain.

The fact that this man would choose his power position on the council even though it is sacrificing such badly needed money for the poor, is proof positive that Paul Catzanaro cares about no one but himself and how much perceived power that he can gain for himself, and the public be damned if they should get in his way.

Let him run for mayor, because the public will see right through his self serving interests and will reelect a good man like Tim Stewart for yet another term.

Catzanaro running for mayor is good news for the Republicans, as it will assure Mayor Stewart 2 more years, so go for it Paul, show us what a loser you are!

Anonymous said...

I don't think the Dems will choose Paul. I've heard Rep. Geragosian might be interested. I think the dems thinks they can beat stewart that way and because he has been appointed to lead the powerful appropriations committee in Hartford.

Anonymous said...

One who knows... said...

Maybe Catzanaro and Trueworthy could just resign from the council so HUD can restore the badly needed funding for food pantries.

December 16, 2008 1:20 AM

Remember that one Paul; tell that one to your supporters when they decide to run your campaign for Mayor!

Anonymous said...

Geragosian is not nuts. Why would he give up the Chairmanship of Appropriations to be a mayor? In his current position, he could do a lot for New Britain.

Anonymous said...

Yeah.. Right..

Other than talking about it what has the Hartford delegation done to lower property taxes while Stewart has been Mayor? When Pawlak was Mayor?

Rowland and Rell have done more for New Britain than those guys.

Most states do NOT tax cars.
Most states do NOT gouge our seniors causing them to flee the state.
Most states have property taxes HALF of what ours is.
Other than the government unions and their non-profits who are they for?

We can only hope Gerogosian will do the right thing in Approps.

All Paul Cantazaro does is get fatter and fatter running around to restaurants all day stuffing his fat face with several lunches a day when he is supposed to be working for the city, but he is an alderman, so he is "UNTOUCHABLE" and no one can do anything about it. His supervisors are aparently powerless to hold him accountable because of his powerful position over them. Just one more conflict of interest on his long list of conflicts.

Dear anonymous:

With that comment you are demonstrate you are living in a parallel universe divorced from reality.

I'll grant you, however, that Rowland gave the Carvers of New Britain patronage jobs for which they are showing a handsome profit on the taxpayers' dime. So maybe Rowland-Rell have done more for New Britain within the Carver household.

EVEN MAYOR STEWART WOULD BE POWERLESS TO DISCIPLINE THIS GUY NO MATTER HOW SERIOUS AN ACT HE MIGHT COMMIT, CAN YOU IMAGINE THE POLITICAL S**T STORM THE MAYOR WOULD FACE FROM THE DEMOCRATS ON THE COUNCIL WHO WOULD ACUSE THE MAYOR OF ATTACKING THEIR ALDERMAN FOR BEING A DEMOCRAT. THIS GUY TRULY IS UNTOUCHABLE, AND THIS IS THE PROBLEM WITH A CITY EMPLOYEE BEING ALLOWED TO SERVE ON THE COUNCIL. THE STATE OF CONNECTICUT HAS IT RIGHT BY BARRING ANY STATE EMPLOYEE FROM SERVING IN THE LEGISLATURE FOR THIS VERY REASON!

"Geragosian is not nuts. Why would he give up the Chairmanship of Appropriations to be a mayor? In his current position, he could do a lot for New Britain."

He wouldn't have to give up his chairmanship and that's the point...if he runs and loses he keeps it...but if he runs he can use one of the most powerful state positions in the state to fundraise for the Mayors office...

But it sounds like since New Britain Republicans have constructed their electoral dream team for 09', despite the fact that their registration is perhaps at an all time low, than all this rumor is moot.

The BAD news today is that the unemployment rate is at 6.6%, a 15 year high in Connecticut. The Democrats in Hartford on the hill have spent most of those 15 years suffocating job growth in the state, so that now when times are tough, every job loss isn’t just painful for New Britain families, it is catastrophic.

With few other employment opportunities available to them, what can people do? Move, starve, or ask the government for help.

But soon-to-be Speaker Donovan From Meriden, CT and his colleagues are birds of a different color. Look for them to prescribe a double dose of poison for the patient - more mandates, greater intervention, and higher taxes on those who still have jobs.

It will be, as it is usually done, couched in the terms of paying a fair share and helping those most in need. But the math won’t add up, and they’ll have to expand the definition of rich to include anyone still lucky enough to have a job in New Britain and Connecticut.

Of course, one of the residual effects of these policies will be that some of our young folks in New Britain - guys and gals starting small businesses, the ladies from UCONN Law, or those working the line at P & W - will figure out that Connecticut is a lousy deal and that moving to Tennessee, New Hampshire or South will be their next move in 2009.

Answer to the ignorant Democrat Liberal who posted this:

ANSWER:

LIKE THE PROMINENT DEMOCRAT AND FORMER CLINTON WHITE HOUSE ADVISER SAID, BY THIS TIME NEXT YEAR, OBAMA WILL BE AS RADIOACTIVE AS GEORGE BUSH IS TODAY. THIS WILL HAVE PEOPLE FLOCKING TO THE REPUBLICAN PARTY THE SAME WAY THEY DID AFTER THE FAILED POLICIES OF THE FIRST TWO YEARS OF THE CLINTON ADMINISTRATION. Those who fail to learn from history, are destined to repeat it!!!!

The timing of the municipal elections next year is just right!

Add to that the way the elitist Democrats on the council chose to ignore the outcry against appointing a liberal nutjob to the Board of Ed, and throw in the move of the State Central Committee of the Republican Party to Downtown New Britain, and you have all the makings of a recipe for change here in New Britain!

Moving an office does constitute a new sheriff coming to town, isn't that what Gerratana called himself? If the voters of New Britain wake up and see what the 13 Dem simpletons on the Council do all the time under the direction of Sherwack, Unworthy and Chatty Cathy (Bielinski), perhaps NB will have thousands of sheriffs sweeping out corruption in the Dem ranks!

Anonymous said...

Catanzero for mayor? What a hoorible thought! I'll bet he wouldn't even get the cross endorsement of the WFP. Don't you have to be a "worker" to get the support of the WFP? Considering his size, he doesn't qualify as a dwarf otherwise he could be called, "DOPEY."

Sherwack? Must be someone who knows what a real whackjob this guy really is! Think he knows what a laughing stock he has become in town, or is he still too whacked out to see it for himself???

HOW ABOUT IT.

Did the city council apply for the enterprise zone in order to make it attractive for businesses to move into the Pinnacle Heights proposed project?

Sheriff is the appropriate term for New Britain politics, considering the long history of corruption that was associated with the office of sheriff in Connecticut.

Subject: The Saga of Court Hearings on Municipal Code of Ethics....?

The Government Elections and Administration Committee took a step forward toward eradicating political corruption at the municipal level when it approved a bill that would force all Cities and Towns (like New Britain)to adopt a code of ethics by 2007.

The substitute bill calls for municipalities to establish procedures to investigate allegations of misconduct by its public officials, public employees, and paid consultants.
The state has yet to pass its own contract reform package. The General Assembly has passed legislation toward that end three times, but Governor M. Jodi Rell vetoed all three attempts. State Rep. Christopher Caruso, [D-Bridgeport], said that municipalities, like the state, routinely award multi-million dollar contracts and in most towns there is no process for the public to address the behavior of public officials.

Two Glastonbury residents, Karen Emerick and Dana Evans, know what Rep. Caruso means all too well. They were in Hartford Superior Court filing writs of mandamus to enforce their legal rights. Since 2003, Emerick and Evans have been asking the Glastonbury Ethics Commission to specify how the public may initiate complaints alleging a violation of code, or how the public might request access to the commission's advisory opinions.

They say they have yet to receive an answer, though Karen Emerick says she was told on one occasion, in letter from the ethics commission chairperson, that the commission would not accept complaints directly from the public. Evans said she had wanted information on a code that would allow public officials to represent a developer and others doing business in the town, but was told advisory opinions are not for the public. If it becomes law, the substitute bill approved by the committee today will change that.

After filing and winning numerous state Freedom of Information Commission complaints and non-compliance actions against the Glastonbury Ethics Commission, Emerick and Evans said they felt they had exhausted all other avenues.

After filing the writ, Emerick said there should be a regional ethics commission, so that people on the commission do not hear cases from residents in their own town. She said she would support a statewide ethics code that doesn’t require public officials to disclose the contents of their bank accounts, but they would have to disclose all financial interests in property and list the names of their limited liability companies and private employers.

The substitute House bill that the committee approved prohibits public officials and public employees from representing private interests against the interests of their employer municipality, and closes the loophole in the revolving door policy so public officials can't take jobs with private companies that do business with the town.

Before it can become law, the bill still must be approved by the House, the Senate, and Governor Rell. Susan G. Kniep, former East Hartford mayor and President of The Federation of Connecticut Taxpayers Organization (FCTO) said that every time a public official writes a local ethics code for a town so that in the future he may, as an elected or former official, do business with the town - then the taxpayer again loses his/her shirt.

Without strong ethics laws on a local level, common sense tells you that local elected officials cannot and will not police their own, said Susan Kniep, President FCTO.
