During a news conference held at the Italian Fraternal Society on Monroe Street in New Britain, State Representative Tim O’Brien has made his official announcement that he is planning to establish exploratory committee in order to evaluate a feasibility study committee to ponder his potential in running for the office of Mayor in the upcoming election and does plan to seek the advice of all the residents throughout the city before concluding his decision.
He is considered to be on the liberal side, however; he is also known for listening to the moderate side of the issues and many times does support their viewpoint.
Unlike so many other politicians, at least Representative O'Brien is willing to listen and consider opposing views.

This a perfect example of the difference between Mayor Timothy Stewart and Representative O'Brien--who has no experience running anything.
Mayor Stewart has no problem making difficult decisions, while this gentleman needs to think about it and form a feasability committee to help him decide whether or not he should run for the office. If this is how uncommitted he is to the office, what kind of decisions can you expect from him if he were to actually win the office?
New Britain needs a leader who can make serious decisions, many times on a moment's notice. The chief executive officer of the city doesn't have time for "feasability committees" when the crap is hitting the fan.
Mayor Timothy Stewart has demonstrated the leadership ability we need, and that is something we don't need a "feasability study" to tell us.
In these difficult times, are we really going to trust the management of the entire city to someone who has no experience and can't make even the simplest of decisions?

This was straight up in your face political rallying at it's best. 200 people came left inspired. I support Tim...bet you can't guess which one.
Odd thing is he has chosen a course that runs contrary to the legislation he is most proud of.
What exactly is the cost of an "Exploratory Committee"? Say for example a local home owner chose to run for mayor would they be able to afford a committee of their own?
Seems like a highly organized bid for a City mayoral position.

Since Mr. O'Brien, the NB liberal anti-business politician, is now tossing his hat into the ring as a candidate for the mayor's seat in the next city elections. And, then maybe his personal habits in his 24th District Pinnacle Housing Project area might surface as a campaign issue - since O'Brien stated if he does run he hopes for a clean campaign.
I agree, Tim O'Brien is a nice guy
but appears somewhat "wishy,washy".
I wouldn't have confidence in Tim O'Brien leading the city of New Britain with hard decisions. Tim Stewart has proved his leadership
he just needs a good solid common council working toward the common good. This election we need sweeping change at the council level, democrat or republican the
current bunch needs to go.
The democratic party may have approached Tim O, not the other way
around. They are hoping their voters mistakenly place their votes
for "Tim" their Tim.
In New Britain you could possibly when by "mistake" and that's how
desperate the dems are this year hoping to when by confusion of the
voter.

NEW BRITAIN: Rep. O'Brien Considers Running For Mayor of NB.
Timothy O'Brien, a former city alderman serving his fourth term as the State Representative from the 24th House District, said that he is considering seeking the Democratic nomination to run for mayor in November elections.
O'Brien announced the formation of an exploratory committee to a crowd of about 100 people attending a St. Patrick's Day Eve party he hosted at the Italian Fraternal Society on Monroe Street in New Britain. If I'm going to run for mayor, it's going to be about making New Britain better, O'Brien said.
Mayor Timothy Stewart, a Republican now in his third term as mayor, has not announced if he will seek another term. However,John McNamara, Chairman DTC, said that so far no one else has talked publicly about seeking the nomination for mayor. O'Brien is expected to make his decision about running within three months.
New Britain - Rep. Timothy O'Brien, D-24th District stated that his wife and step-son will be supporting Tim in his mayoral bid for mayor of New Britain.
The press release stated that O'Brien family has announced the formation of an exploratory committee to gauge the public interest in a possible NB mayoral run by O'Brien in the November 2009 elections.
As a member of the New Britain City Council (Common Council) Tim O'Brien worked for the change in the way New Britain City Council members were elected from an "at-large" system of 15 aldermen, to one that ensures that five neighborhood voting districts elects two (2) Council members plus five (5) aldermen "at-large" based on the 2000 population census.

How about this one? Because of DeFronzo's and O'Brien's feet of clay, New Britain lost $15 million in revenue!

YOU MEAN THERE IS AN EVEN BIGGER PHONY THAN SHERWOOD IN NEW BRITAIN POLITICS? THAT IS HARD TO BELIEVE, BUT IT SOUNDS LIKE O'BRIEN COULD FIT THAT BILL.

State Representative O'Brien had the foresight to lobby for the saving of the New Britain Herald and the Bristol Press together with three daily newspapers.
That was a well done for Tim.

Success has many fathers... failure only orphans.
This country and state are perfect examples of why you need to elect leaders that have real world experience. When you elect people who's only experience is government or government funded enterprises you get what we have.
Trillions in debt, banks collapsing, capitalism collapsing, no spending priorities (everything can't be priority one), government being the "solution" to all problems (even though government is the cause of many of our problems), failure is promoted, success is penalized and on and on and on.
Let's not triplicate this in New Britain.
