Perez Trial Set For Corruption

Hartford Mayor's Corruption Trial Set for Fall

HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) - The corruption trial of Hartford Mayor Eddie Perez has been set for this fall, with a jury to be picked beginning in September.
Hubert Santos, Perez's lawyer, met briefly with prosecutors and a Superior Court judge Thursday morning and set an October trial date.
The mayor is charged with receiving a bribe, fabricating evidence and conspiring to fabricate evidence. The charges stem from $40,000 worth of renovations done at Perez's his home by city contractor Carlos Costa.
Last month, a motion was filed seeking the dismissal of bribery charges, citing grand jury testimony which the mayor's his lawyer says contradicts the state's allegations.
A hearing on that motion is scheduled for May 8.

Philip Sherwood, the alderman who led the push for his Code of Ethics in New Britain, stated that his Code of Ordinance is based on the same Ethics code adopted by Hartford Mayor Eddie Perez's principles of open government - while Sherwood's Code of Ethics in NB is also intended to make public the financial holdings of key city officials residing in NB.

However, Hartford Mayor Perez as a result of a Grand Jury investigation, was arrested on bribery charges and other arrests are forth coming as a result of Perez's secretive Hartford City Hall deals.

Sherwood and Dodd are their own worst enemies. If they could only keep their mouths shut!

Just another fine example of Democratic leadership!

Is anyone taking bets on how many years in prison this one will get? Maybe he will join his friend Senator Newton.

Frank,
I liked the photo WTIC was using which looked like he was being led away in handcuffs!

As Mayor Perez goes to court, still no improvement of Hartford schools, tax base, roads, Front St area, Park St area etc.

Seems like another Pol. who promised everthing and delivered nothing.

Perez is a great example of the devisive bantor that mascarades as CHANGE.

Take from the rich give to the poor.

John Rowland spent time in prison for work done on his home for free by contractors doing work for the State....Why should Eddie Perez be any different? Perez should be kicked out of office.

Maybe he can be a roommate of Senator Newton who was previously convicted of taking a bribe and is serving his 5 year prison term?

I heard on one news station that Perez is still under investigation for more possible violations, and that more charges are anticipated.
