Reinstating tolls is a good idea. We are the only state in the Northeast to not have them.

You could put one on every interstate highway near the state line, so that there is no way to avoid them. The old system allowed you to take 684 to 84 to avoid the Connecticut Turnpike tolls. Put one on 84 in Danbury and that would fix that problem. Even better, we own a small piece of 684, so put one there, and force all the New yorkers to pay Connecticut tolls to pass through that 100 yards or so of Connecticut.

To answer the claim about the issue with state employees running the tolls, contract out the operation and then there will be no issue for state employees. The Mass Pike is completely run by a contractor. State employees are not even involved in the plowing or maintenance of the highway, and it is the best highway in Massachusetts, so if Mass. can do it, why can't we.

And as far as the traffic, What traffic? With the E-Z Pass System, most states have express lanes allowing you to travel 65 miles per hour right through the toll, so you either buy an E-Z Pass, or you deserve to sit in line.

Return the tolls and hire a contractor to operate them! End of story, and I didn't even charge the bureaucrats $1.20 million for my opinion!
