Editorial:
Despite several claims by candidate Tim O’Brien that he wishes to conduct a clean campaign that is focused on the issues, he has not yet challenged Mayor Stewart to a single debate.
Perhaps Mr. O’Brien is afraid to talk about the issues that New Britain faces. Mayor Stewart, for his part, says that he is both willing and eager to debate with Mr. O’Brien on the issues.
Hopefully the citizens of New Britain will soon be given the opportunity to hear first hand Tim O’Brien’s plans, or lack thereof, for New Britain. Then they can weigh them against Mayor Stewart’s proven track record of delivering economic development, lower taxes, and improved city services.

Will O'Brien be allowed to bring a telepromter to the debate, so that the DTC chairman can type his answers for him onto the screen?
I for one would attend such a debate. Perhaps Mr. O'Brien recalls the Kennedy/Nixon debates...a televised debate helped Kennedy implicity. Is Tim O'Brien afraid that Mayor Stewart would outshine him? If such a debate were held, perhaps it can be televised on Nutmeg T.V.
The League of Women Voters will be holding a debate to be seen on Nutmeg TV on October 20th. Problem its its very short, and its round robin style, no real interaction is had between the candidates. Probably good for O'Brien, he might pee his pants and run home to mommy if he had to have an intellectual debate with Big Tim. Tiny Tim can't hold his own, he's already proved it by not challenging the Mayor!
Sounds like a phony scripted event designed specifically to protect O'Brien from having to answer any questions. Perhaps the Mayor could challenge O'Brien to a real debate and arrange for it to be televised on Nutmeg TV for everyone to see.
Is this the same O'Brien who took about 5 months to decide if he should run for mayor? I can only imagine how long he would take to answer a question, especially if he isn't allowed to consult McNamara for the approved answer.
I don't see O'Brien offering to give back 5% of his salary to help the State of Connecticut?
Tim O'Brien would make a poor Mayor - It is clear that his political comments are a ploy with his redundant wishy washy feel good legislation that is designed to make it appear that he is doing something for the New Britain taxpayer.
He and his democrat majority at the state level have done a very poor job leading Connecticut into a future that will still need a business friendly tax structure to attract the exploding clean energy manufacturing sector.
As a matter of fact now that we think of it didn't Connecticut lose a few hundred jobs at "Fuel Cell Energy" manufacturer of fuel cells in town of Enfield CT because of increased taxation under Tim O'Brien’s watch?
Since O'Brien is reportedly from Manchester, maybe one of his promises could be to transform New Britain to be more like Manchester?
LWV sponsored debates can be a bit stuffy and staged.
