Representative Tim O'Brien Supported Huge Increases in DMV Fees!

FRANKSMITHSAYSNB EDITORIAL:

State Representative Tim O'Brien voted in September in favor of HB7002, a measure to raise many of the state fees, including almost every fee at the Department of Motor Vehicles. This appears to be an effort by the Democratic party that controls the legislature, Representative O'Brien included, to turn the Department of Motor Vehicles into their own ATM Machine to fund more social programs. Here is a look at the new fees that HB 7002 will establish:

OPERATOR'S LICENSE: $78.00

PASSENGER CAR REGISTRATION: $85.00

COMMERCIAL VEHICLE REGISTRATION: $93.00

MOTORCYCLE REGISTRATION: $50.00

CAMPER REGISTRATION: $80.00

MOTOR BUS REGISTRATION: $73.00

SERVICE BUS SEATING LESS THAN 16 PASSENGERS: $210.00

SERVICE BUS SEATING 16 OR MORE PASSENGERS: $710.00

SCHOOL BUS REGISTRATION: $110.00

LATE FEE FOR REGISTRATION RENEWALS: $25.00

OPERATOR'S LICENSE EXAMINATION FEE: $50.00

LEARNER'S PERMIT FEE: $28.00

DUPLICATE REGISTRATION CERTIFICATE: $25.00 (basically a copy)

DUPLICATE LICENSE FEE: $30.00

FEE FOR COPY OF AN ACCIDENT REPORT: $30.00

COPY OF YOUR DRIVER HISTORY SHOWING NO RECORD: $30.00

EMISSIONS INSPECTION--LATE FEE: $25.00,

APPLICATION FOR TITLE: $30.00 (required for every vehicle in CT)

DUPLICTE TITLE: $30.00 (basically a copy of the original)

VANITY PLATE FEE: $75.00

Considering that two large bus companies call New Britain home, it is not very business friendly for New Britain to support such large increases in the various bus registration fees. The new fees also raise the cost of licensing your 16 year old child for their first driver's license to a total cost of $156.00 (operator's license, learner's permit fee, and examination fee). $156.00 is a lot of money to charge for a first time license--especially in the case of a working class family who may be struggling to pay the rent or put food on the table. Representative O'Brien claims to support working families, but his voting record says just the opposite.

Thankfully, Governor Jodi Rell vetoed HB7002 and spared us from this latest attempt by the Democrats in our legislature to stick it to all of us with their ever increasing tax and fee hikes.

Based on his voting record, this is exactly the type of sneaky fee increases we could expect to see in City Hall if Representative O'Brien were to be elected Mayor.

If O'Brien becomes Mayor, you will no longer have Governor Rell to protect you from his wrath!

Saying that taxes and fees have increased enough already, Gov. M. Jodi Rell on Friday vetoed about $60 million in fee increases that were passed by the Democratic-controlled legislature.

The fee hikes did not pass by a veto-proof margin in the Democratic-controlled state Senate. Sen. Joan Hartley, a conservative Democrat from Waterbury who has often broken with her party on fiscal matters, joined the Republicans in opposing the hikes. The measure had passed, 23-12, during a special session Thursday in the Democratic-controlled chamber.

I could see it now under Mayor O'Brien, it would probably be $150.00 for a dog license!

At least that is what his voting record in the legislature predicts!

Jack up those fees so you can give the money away to people who need and deserve your money more than you do!

In fact, shouldn't you feel guilty for having your money in the first place?

God help the citizens of New Britain if by hook or crook this guy Tim O'Brien should get elected to the position of Mayor.

I don't even want to think about it.
He wil bankrupt us and leave again for unknown parts. How many years has he lived in NB ? Where and when did he come from ?

From the BizyBee:

...not the only example of carpetbaggers on the Democratic slate; their candidate for Mayor, Tim O'Brien, has only lived here for less than 15 years, and some question if he even does reside here. He doesn't even pay real estate taxes in the city but yet he wants to be mayor? He doesn't even own any property, and some have said he even lives out of Manchester, but rents an apartment to make it seem that he lives in his district.

I just received a mailer from Tim O'Brien and it looks as though he has a solution to actually lower property taxes for everyone in New Britain! Yea! He doesn't explain how he is going to do this but he is peddling the idea? Along with lowering property taxes he is also going to be able to improve our schools? He will be able to do this with less money after lowering the property taxes? Next on the agenda is growing the grand list? This will come after lowering property taxes and improving schools there will be new
higher paying jobs made available
in New Britain. From what I hear he has also been promoting universal health care around our neighborhoods as if being a municipal mayor will give him the federal powers that be. It's all coming our way with Tim O'Brien. And the blight issue... Tim O'Brien has been a the forefront of cleaning up this city. Be sure he will have your white picket fence painted for you if he becomes mayor.

Come back to earth and get a reality check. New Britain is an inner city with many challenges.
Under incumbent Mayor Tim Stewart
we have seen steady economic development and job creation. Our taxes have been held in the toughest of economies and the mill rate was lowered in response to the state mandated property appraisal system. Our bond rating has improved. We are anticipating
a new Police Station right on Main Street and development of the Pinnacle Height property. The Stanley Golf Course restaurant has
re-opened with a new lease and a new facelift to our historical landmark. The former New Britain Machine property has re-developed with new business opportunities. Celebration Foods brought new tax dollars and job opportunities.

This November 3rd it is important to vote for our incumbent Mayor Tim Stewart to continue the good work going on in New Britain. The Mayor's team consists of not only Republicans but Democrats and Independents. This a dedicated team of candidates who have no hidden agendas or ties to national special interests groups. We are on the right track let's keep up the good work and vote to make things better by replacing our failed common council who have been
found guilty of major ethics breaches, mis-use of state office buildings for slander, rude and dis-respectful treatment of potentional developers and living outside our New Britain while sitting as an elected official.

Well looks like we have more fuzzy math from the left. I am just waiting for him to tell me about the wonderful "lock box" he borrowed from Al Gore.

Tim O'Brien moved to N.B. from Manchester a few years ago...does anyone know why?
What if his wife persuades him to move where she came from, New York City?

Guard your wallets everyone, the liberals are coming to give all your hard earned money away!

Was this while O'Brien was working so hard in the legislature to pass property tax relief?

The only property "relief" OBrien and Sherwood provided was relieving WalMart from New Britain.

Great for the WFP and the "get WalMart crowd" very bad for New Britain and its employees.

All this might accomplish is by raising DMV fees is there will be fewer cars and drivers on the road. Some of the positives there is: Much fewer accidents, less pollution, and a case for Mass Transit. Way to go,O'Brien!...you make us proud!!!
