MINORITY COUNCIL LEADER SPEAKS OUT!
A letter to The Herald editor today (10/23/09) by Peter Kochol, ³ Stewart
disingenuous¹...² as well as incorrect assertions by Democrats, Sherwood
and O¹Brien at the LOWV/HERALD, Candidates debate on Tuesday, 10/20/09
prompts this editorial.
First. At the ³debate², Democrats asserted over and over that NB schools are
overcrowded. Later, this same assertion would be made by O¹Brien in the
Mayoral debate. This despite a direct challenge to that assertion by
Stewart Team Aldermanic Candidate, Marco Villa (BOE employee) that the
assertion was false. Today I called an administrator at the BOE central
office. This administrator told me in fact, our schools are NOT overcrowded.
The fact is that some classes have large enrollments but that the schools
themselves are not overcrowded. He explained further that there are
approximately 500 students enrolled in out of town magnet schools. This
means that fewer teachers were needed resulting in higher enrollments in
some classes. Enrollment at NBHS is also lower.
Second. Kochol¹s use of the term ³disingenuous² when referring to Mayor
Stewart is way off base. He asserts that Stewart did not wish to receive
proposals for magnet schools - this assertion is what is really
disingenuous. I was part of discussions about that magnet school proposal
and if my memory serves me correctly, it was the school administration that
did not wish to commit to the magnet school proposal at that time. It turns
out, that was a good decision; in the past couple of months a serious
problem has arisen especially in the Hartford magnet schools with regard to
lower than expected per pupil funding for the schools from the State. There
has been much discussion of this problem in the media. Why did the city/BOE
decide not to commit to a magnet concept at the time? The reasons are many
faceted: where to put inter district magnet schools; increased funding
necessary; no firm commitment from surrounding towns to participate -
suppose towns committed at first, then, after getting things in place
decided to back off a commitment? - ; NB would be held ³holding the bag.²
Etc., etc.
Lastly. Democrats are desperate to find issues they feel might serve them
well in the upcoming election so they try to paint the Stewart Team as anti
education. Realize that there is a global recession and that the city
underwent a revaluation.
Let me list just a few things that have been completed/accomplished in the
past six years during the Stewart Administration: reroofing of elementary
schools; new playscapes at schools, i6 room addition for Freshman Academy at
NBHS; reroofing of NBHS with Solar generating panels installed; Alternate
School built at NBHS; improvements to Veteran¹s Stadium; DiLoreto Schools
has a revamped curriculum. The list could go on and the facts show that the
Stewart Administration has been only pro education for New Britain

Lou, this is the typical hype you get from liberals. They have no plan, no real issues to cite, so they make things up. One just needs to look at the long list of lies coming out of the White House and the Democrats in power in Congress to find one lie after another. Maybe they should change their mascot from the Jack Ass (although it certainly is a fitting mascot for these council Democrats) to Pinocchio.
Pinocchio rides the Jack Ass
Two political mailers came out this week, one from Tim O'Brien
and one from Don DeFronzo, is Don running for office this year? No, I didn't think so.
Looks like Mr. DeFronzo is pre-empting his campaign for next year
and making a last ditched effort for his little buddy. But please don't say that you are for small business owners. I'm a small business owner and I can say Don DeFronzo provides small business owners nothing it's all about the state and Don DeFronzo.
As for Tim O'Brien and his mailer about our schools, excuse me but you have offended my son who is proud to be a student at New Britain High School. Have you been to our high school Mr. O'Brien? Have you seen first hand
the spirit of our students? Did you watch them on Cool Schools last week when WFSB came down to film them at 5AM? Was your son there that morning to partake in his hometown school? As a taxpayer, a registered New Britain voter, a parent and a concerned citizen I want to know where your
child attends school? Why haven't you put an end to the rumors of where your family lives and where your child attends school?
As for Tim O'Brien and his mailer about our schools, excuse me but you have offended my son who is proud to be a student at New Britain High School. Have you been to our high school Mr. O'Brien?
HOW CAN TIM O'BRIEN KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT OUR SCHOOLS?
IT WOULD APPEAR HE IS ASHAMED OF OUR SCHOOL SYSTEM, DOESN'T HE CHOOSE TO SEND HIS STEPSON TO AN OUT OF TOWN SCHOOL?
It is rumored that his family actually lives out of town. To date he has not set the record straight one way or another. If his family lives out of town, where
does he hang his hat at night?
Weird that he would feel compelled to run for mayor of our city but his wife and step-son live somewhere else? If this rumor is wrong, why hasn't he or one of his supporters put this question to bed?
My analysis of the latest O'Brien mailer is viewable here. Thanks to Frank for posting this editorial since they aren't published at the Herald's site.
Thanks Lou for exposing KOCHOL as the liar he is. He makes a repitation by twisting words and never getting to the point.
He is not to be trusted in my opinion.
Mayor Stewart has worked hard to improve economic development and create more business and job opportunities in our city. Examples of his efforts can be seen with:
* Celebration Foods bringing 300 new jobs to the City
* Keeping Dattco and Guidas in the City on Commerce Circle
* Pinnacle Heights demolition and redevelopment
* Big Sky Fitness Center
* Rock Cats renewed contract for 20 years
* La Quinta Hotel opened in Downtown New Britain
* Increased affordable housing
* Reconstruction of Walnut Hill Park
* Bridge Repair Program
* Multi-Year Paving & Sidewalk Program
* Downtown Redevelopment including the future police station
* Hart Street Extension Project
* Redeveloptment of Corbin Heights
* Daughters of Mary Reconstruction (42 assisted living apartments, senior & child daycare)
* School Construction Projects
* "Going Green" with a new Transfer Station
* New Britain - Hartford Busway Plans
* Willow Street Recreational Facility
Now that Kochol is exposed maybe Kurtz will be exposed to be a liar. The absolute disgrace is that every BOE member is afraid of her (except sanders) because she is black.
NEW BRITAIN – The Hardware City: This is the break down of the 27,400 manufacturing jobs plus the projected employee manufacturing Floor Space that might be created by politician Tim O’Brien if he even launches his long-term 2010 employee Economic Development Plan for the City of New Britain – can he do – 27,400 jobs – where will he find the manufacturing land for these O’Brien jobs - if elected Mayor of New Britain.
1.- 4,200 American Hardware Jobs – plus manufacturing Floor Space 2,255,912 feet.
2.- 3,000 Landers, Frary and Clark Jobs – plus manufacturing Floor Space 42 acres .
3.- 1,200 North and Judd Jobs - plus manufacturing Floor Space 850,000 feet.
4.- 5,500 Fafnir Ball Bearing Jobs - plus manufacturing Floor Space 2,000,000 feet.
5.- 13,500 Stanley Works Jobs - plus manufacturing Floor Space 1,291,456 feet.
6.- Skinner Chuck Jobs – plus manufacturing Floor Space 65,000 feet.
Tim O’Brien stated in the Sunday 10/25/09 edition of The Herald that he is developing plans to bring back jobs and bring back industry and bring back – “the New Britain that was once famous around the world”.
This is a novel, but unrealistic idea considering that the majority of manufacturing jobs were moved either to more business friendly states, or overseas to countries where labor markets are much lower.
However, candidate O’Brien’s stated in his campaigning walking the streets of NB and talking to NB voters who are seeking someone like Tim who can bring back a time of “new beginnings” by bringing back home some 27,400 industrial manufacturing jobs that once made NB the Hardware City of the World.
Now wait one minute.... Tim O'Brien is working on not only bringing back thousands of mfg jobs
to New Britain the Hardware Capitol of the World... these jobs
are going to be completely "Green"
in keeping with the latest trends in political correct mfg. and no need to worry the state and the federal goverment will cover all the expenses and create the union
