If they give it to Catanzaro, does that mean that when the Mayor is away, Catanzaro gets to sit in the Mayor's chair while he is getting paid by the city to pick up garbage?
Does that create yet another long list of Catzanzaro's conflicts that no one seems to care about?
Stewart said that when he had stood at the same lectern two years ago, he had called for putting aside partisan differences and asked for a greater level of civility than had been seen in the past.
“Some heeded that call for partnerships above politics, but many over the past few years have chosen to take a negative, divisive approach, pitting the council against the mayor and Democrats against Republicans,” he said. “If we are to continue to make progress in the face of economic uncertainty, we cannot afford more political warfare.”
THERE COULD BE NO BETTER SHOW OF FAITH BY THE COUNCIL, THAN TO ELECT REPUBLICAN MARK BERNACKI TO THE POSITION OF MAYOR PRO TEM.
At the Council meeting on Thursday, Republican Mark Bernacki shall be nominated for the position of Mayor Pro Tempore of the Council.
Mark is no stranger to the position. For eight of the many years he has served on the Common Council, Mark has served as "Mayor Pro Tem." Why?
The Mayor Pro Tem should be a person in whom the Mayor has confidence and respect, qualities that Mark has demonstrated always in his work as an Alderman. Mark knows and understands how our government works; he has been a student and practitioner of our city government for many years, one who inspires confidence in those with whom he works.
Consistently, the voters of New Britain have demonstrated their confidence in and respect for Mark; Mark has been among the highest "vote getters", and always as an At Large candidate regardless of his party affiliation.
It is hoped that the members of the newly elected Common Council will demonstrate on Thursday that they have the same respect for Mark Bernacki as do the voters of New Britain.
Since Mayor Stewart is a Republican, it makes sense that the Mayor ProTem be a Republican. Can you imagine the chaos if the mayor pro tem was a Democrat and the Mayor could not preside over the Council meeting? Mark Bernacki would be ideal, since he knows what's happening'
Thursday was a comedy of errors when it came to selecting the Mayor Pro Tem position...when it was "decided" that Trueworthy will be Mayor Pro Tem, there were bits of laughter from the audience...Watch this council meeting next Wednesday on Nutmeg TV...you had to be there to see the ridiculous, childish behavior of Trueworthy, Sherwood and Catandzorro: the 3 stooges.

Bernacki would bring professionalism to this job---something we haven't seen for a long time!
Don't count on the council voting Bernacki in.

Since when has this council ever done the right thing?
They are more concerned with their party gaining power than with doing the right thing.

Since he has to work so closely with the mayor, shouldn't the Council consider the Mayor's opinion on such an important appointment?
After all, he is the Mayor!
As far as this Council is concerned, the Mayor doesn't exist. Just ACORN.

The general consensus is...Mark Bernacki should be named Mayor Pro Tem.
I say, majority rules...Mark Bernacki it is!!

Trueworthy's erratic behavior over the past several months worries me. Heaven help us if he had to take over for the Mayor while he's away!!
