The Hartford Courant, in their lead story by Staff Writer Don Stacom, announced that Alderman At Large Louis Salvio won after the absentee ballots count were counted.

looks like those 31 Absentee Ballots gives Louis Salvio a little victory over Laura Woodie.

In a Hartford Courant article referencing her candidacy, the Courant reported that "she did not specify where she works" (New Britain Dems Hope To Hold Power On Council; GOP Hopes To Gain Some, Hartford Courant, October 22, 2009).

Then in a similar article in The Herald, Woodie reportedly identified her occupation as: "advocate for low-income families, and families with disabilities in various communities" but again failed to mention where she works (New Britain Common Council Democratic Candidates, The Herald, October 24, 2009).

It raised red flags with me to read that a candidate for public office was being so evasive about identifying her employer, but could there be a reason for this?

And the kicker... Rick Lopes is contending a machine malfunction.

What? Wasn't this technology supported by Bysiewicz and Pawlak as being infallible? This is why we spend THOUSANDS on scrapping the old but easy to vote lever machines
and getting these new ones?

I got a cramp filling in all those damn ovals.

Why is it always those damn machines when D's lose but great victories when they win?

Congrats to Mayor Tim.
Congrats to Lou, Mark, Willie and
Mary!

THANK YOU for everyone else that ran.

Congratulations to Lou Salvio. He is a good man who cares only about what he believes is best for the people of New Britain and is not interested in partisan games like the liberal loons on the council.

Great News!! Congratulations, Lou

What a ridiculous joke! Rick Lopes, dirty tricks expert and the one for whom most poeple think Greg Gerratantan took a fall - illegal use of capitol computers - says there was a voting machine malfunction. Rick Lopes is a malfunction, that's why he's so good at the dirty tricks game. And he ran O'Brien's ACORN assted campaign and still serves as DeFronzo's chief aide.

Yikes!
Am a Dem but as far as NB goes, I like the Republican leaders more than the Dems.
The exceptions being Salvio.
How can anyone vote for that mean-spirited man?

While I am very glad that we got Mayor Stewart re-elected and picked up a couple more seats, I am disheartened to see so many great candidates on our slate not get elected and surprised so many people were so easily manipulated by O'Brien and Acorn and swayed by the Democratic Town Committee's proverbial promise of 40 acres and a mule.

Lou Salvio is a very nice guy. It sounds like you've never had a conversation with him. He's a straight shooter, and doesn't put up with BS from the liberal partisans on the Council. Thank GOD he made it on the Council, to put some of these twits in their place!

Tell Rick Lopes it is the liberal "machine" (led by Little Mac) that failed

Rick Lopes is a fraud and a bad joke.

It doesn't make any sense...If enough folks elected Tim Stewart as Mayor, why wouldn't they elect other Republicans into office instead of the same bozos there now? Catanzaro got the most votes?? Unbelievable!

AMEN! Catanzaro, Trueworthy, Sherwood and Cruz should have been voted out...the Republicans who should have been elected to replace them would have been the best thing that's happened in a New Britain election in many years.

Considering how much pushing by Acorn was happening I think it is pretty amazing that we gained a number of seats. If we really want to win over the Council what we need to do is campaign early and campaign personally. If the people voting for you know you, trust you, and can believe in you, then party doesn't matter. That is why Tim can get elected even facing such overwhelming odds.

N. Merc has it spot on. We had many new, first-time candidates whose names people didn't know. People who support Team Stewart need to begin talking NOW and let your neighbors, friends, and relatives know what happens on the Council on a regular basis. People who would consider running with Team Stewart in the future need to make your presence known EVERYWHERE you go in this city, chatting people up, making sure they know your name. When the next election rolls around and you are making appearances, they may remember the really nice guy/gal they had a conversation with that day at the park/store/restaurant. Slowly but surely, we WILL take our city back!

Alphonse Wright knocked on many a door during the campaign. He is known personally. He would have been a strong and honest alderman.
He lost in the voting districts where the mayor did not prevail. Why?, the democrats pulled in out of towners that told residents what they want to hear. It hurts the real candidates who put the city and it's residents first.

How can you beat a campaign that promises to turn rental assistance into mortgage assistance? Home ownership, the American Dream being served all around New Britain
and paid for by guess who?

Ronald Reagan was the only one who knew how to turn things around. He cut goverment spending and encouraged people to stand on their own two feet and guess what?
American's did just that when pressed to do so.

Perhaps Rick Lopes would care to comment on this:
Is it possible the same machine malfunction is what made Catandzorro the largest vote getter? It's difficult to believe that, of the Council's most unethical member.

I thought for certain Paul would be ousted. Leaves one scratching his head. At the last council meeting Paul Cantanzaro introduced a resolution to put New Britain's own Bernie Madoff in charge of the Mattabassett district for another three years and 5 days later the voters of New Britain agreed with him. Amazing.

It's not too late to go to the Registrar of Voters office to change your party affiliation...there are many former Democrats who switched, and non the worse for it..
Lou Salvio tells it like it is...that doesn't make him mean-spirited..just honest.
