Questions about Candelori a sticking point for Republicans - The New Britain Herald (newbritainherald.com)

If the Herald story is accurate, just the denial about his being named as a defendant in the civil case surrounding the Foxwoods deal should be a "red flag" for anyone seeking to be appointed as a public official. After all, shouldn't someone seeking appointment to such a powerful public position be an open book regarding their past?

The Herald quotes him as denying he is a defendant, and claiming to be the plaintiff in the case, but the Herald also reports the court records as naming him as a co-defendant, along with Sisti and Googel--also identified as former Colonial Realty associates.

Shouldn't this Herald report raise some credibility questions about Candelori even if Trueworthy and Sherwood are quoted as vouching for his character?

In my opinion, this even raises questions about Sherwood's and Trueworthy's judgement when it comes to protecting the best interests of the public.

It would seem that the best interests of the public would be served by an inquiry into this matter by an impartial party that could seek the answers to many questions that seem to be surfacing surrounding this appointment and the apparent overzealous ambitions by Trueworthy and Sherwood to ram this appointment through no matter what information surfaces.

Candelori explained that he was a plaintiff and not a defendant in a lawsuit and that it is just sort of happen chance that the investors
named with him are Google and Sisti. Now this is a guy we can all trust. Just ask Mike Trueworthy he's got it all straight and is satisfied with the answers. And what's up with John Luddy on this issue? Mortgage broker right? Been around through the years he gives the vote his backing?

Why do we care what John Luddy thinks?

He is from Berlin, not New Britain! Do we go to Berlin and tell the mayor there our opinion of Luddy?

If Berlin likes Candelori so much, why don't they appoint him to a local board in their own town, or even better yet, hire him to work for the town.

Someone should tell Luddy to go back to Berlin and mind his own business!

Did Craven miss reporting on this "pillar of the community" and his delinquency regarding his own property taxes?

what a crock of "s**t" appropriate for a sewer commissioner!

He just happens to invest in the same investments as the Colonial Realty bunch!

Sounds to me that the Democratic leadership, for some unknown reason, resents that the Republican Aldermen are looking out for the public.

What could they have to lose over this that would make them react so viciously against the Republicans? What could Sherwood or Trueworthy possibly gain or lose over who gets appointed to run the sewer plant?

The crusade they seem to be on to shove this appointment down the throats of the people, no matter what, makes me suspect there must me more than meets the eye!

Methinks Craven will be writing another story - he doesn't miss too much, but his editors may have other thoughts.

Sounds like a charter revision is needed to prohibit tax delinquents from serving as city commissioners.

If we had such a law now, Candelori would be barred from serving as of the last report on his real estate taxes (about 2 weeks ago) he had not paid his July 1 real estate taxes! Did Craven check to see if this was still the case???????

Anyone who pays their taxes should be outraged over this attitude by aldermen and city commissioners who don't seem to see the need to pay their own taxes.

Since Berlin is getting involved with New Britain politics through this Luddy guy, maybe someone from New Britain should ask the mayors of Berlin and Cromwell what they think of an individual with such a questionable past controlling their town's money?

What is it about these sewer boards that attracts so many seedy characters?

The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission is seeking sanctions — including possible incarceration — against regional sewer czar William A. DiBella, arguing that he has "willfully disobeyed" a court order to pay nearly $700,000 in penalties for taking a sham fee on a state pension investment arranged by convicted state Treasurer Paul Silvester.

Why? It's sort of related to the garbage industry. Same thing different mode of disposal. Lots of money involved.
