After a long and tedious recount Alderman Louis Salvio still won his re- election as an at large City Council Alderman with twenty-six votes to spare.

It looks like Louis Salvio wins the close race as Alderman-at-Large with the magic number of 26.
Are the 26 to spare added to the 31 from Tuesday, equaling 57? I hope so
My guess is 26 was the new margin of victory. Perhaps 5 votes for Lou weren't sufficiently bubbled, or some over zealous voters marked areas differently, yada, yada.
Not at all surprised to original results pretty much stood, the optical scan systems are reliable (though so are level ballot machines.)

I assume the blogger quoted above is talking about Sherwood being Majority Leader. I couldn't agree more! His function will be solely to block progress in New Britain. That's it, nothing more!
NEW BRITAIN — Common council member Phil Sherwood will take over as majority leader when the new council convenes next week Thursday 11/12/09.
Sherwood was chosen by the council's Democratic caucus. The caucus also selected council member Michael Trueworthy, who served as majority leader in the last term, to be mayor pro-tem.
Sherwood is wound so tight that one day he's going to explode. At least with his being seated right next to the Mayor we'll get a good view of it. It'll be fun to watch it replayed on Nutmeg TV.
With the new leadership post given to Alderman Sherwood to become the Council's Majority leader.
It makes one think that the known agitator who has demonstrated a lack of ethics with his infamous 2-13 vote of supporting Alderman Catanzaro's ethics violations and not removing this alderman as the city Charter mandated.
I can only assume that the residents are in for a dictators style of radical government through this known trouble maker.

We better start showing up to Council meetings, people! This guy (Sherwood) will sink our city if we don't stop him from playing partisan politics with city business!
I would expect Sherwood to be as radical a Majority Leader as Nancy Pelosi or Prince Harry Reid. Get ready for some really extremist ideas on the council.
You may begin to believe New Britain has been annexed by Russia or the former East Germany!

It appears that the left wing of the democratic party have taken over the city. The entire legislative group representing our city are left wingers, as is our Common Council. Congratulations to John McNamara for acheiving his goal.
My gut feeling as well as political acumen tells me that most of the dems in our city are uninformed conservatives who think that they are doing the right thing by voting for these left wing loons.
What is needed is strong Republican, Independent and Conservative Democrats convening to begin a dialogue on how to educate the uninformed who do not read the blogs and would not learn from local newspapers.
Current leadership is not WORKING! Please, we need NEW people to take over the reigns and together form a plan to educate the masses. Ir is time for the opportunists to step aside.
It is apparent that as good a mayor as Tim Stewart has been, this will be his last term. What next? Some left wing loon in there raising our taxes? Most of John McNamara's candidates are in the stupid catergory. We are paying these stupes out of our taxes $3,500 a year to do what??
Let us put some of the blame on the Republicans for lacking a concrete plan to reach the public who I am convinced want the right people in office.
This city has too many bright people who are being apathetic. Let's roll!

Honestly I don’t get it. Aren’t there members of the Democratic Majority with more Seniority and Experience? No Democrats on the council are lifelong residents?

Who told you that you can think for yourself? You’re making to much sense; you better stop before they start calling you names saying you don’t fit in with their crowd. Don’t you realize that there is only enough room for one opinion?
Set goals, strategize on how to reach these goals, then work diligently to achieve these goals, and lastly don’t be easily discouraged…
Let us remember what the qualifications is to be a Democrat Candidate for Alderman in New Britain:
#1 – Don’t pay your taxes
#2 – Don’t pay your taxes but have an excuse. The dog ate my pay check!
#3 – Have an Ethical lapse
#4 – Have another Ethical Re-Lapse. If you can get away with it once, you can get away with it again and again and again and ……………………………………
# 5 - Have your picture taken with Dick Blumenthal. He really is pro business ….honest he is! Plus, there is no camera that he doesn’t love more than himself!
#6 – Get endorsed by the Working Families Party. Honestly, they’re not connected to Acorn or the SEIU. Plus, you get double the votes!
#7- Participate in the Aldermanic Debate, but don’t say anything! That way people can’t tell if you really are dumber than a 5th Grader!
#8 – Bad mouth potential developers who are willing to invest in New Britain. After all, this is only the worst recession in 50 years. So why worry, be happy….. The Stimulus Bill money will redevelop New Britain. Just ask Congressman Murphy, if you can find him at the Town Hall meeting in Washington, Ct.!
#9 – Have your picture taken with New Britain’s Democratic representatives ……….Moe, Larry, Curly and Shemp. After all, aren’t they slap happy when it comes to raising taxes, again and again and again and …………….
#10 – Don’t be from New Britain and even better, don’t live in New Britain. That way, you can complain about taxes that you don’t pay to the city of New Britain …..that is, if you do pay them at all!

I couldn't agree with you more. The outcome of New Britain elections are mind blowing. There is only one real answer and that is
Democrats are raised and trained to "Vote Democratic". It has little to do with understanding the issues or finding out about who
you are voting for it's just simply
what your parent's taught you to do so you do it and you do it proud and blind.
If you and Don and Alphonse and Julie and the rest of the Republican slate had "D" next to your names you would all be on the council. Or you could move to Ward 1 and you would be on the council. There was little about the turnout that was educated or informed and it frustrates those of us who really know what goes on.
As concerned taxpayers we need to press them to do the right thing. We need to continue to question ethical breaches. We need to show
up at council meetings (first one this Thursday instead of Wednesday). They love apathy. Get in their faces and question their decisions.

At the recount on Friday, Laura Woodie asked a recount worker. "does this recount cost the City money?" When she heard that it would she said, had I known that I would have withdrawn. When told she could have , she said, "they never told me that" Presumably, the Dems are really, "THEY." Laura said that the Dems approached her to run - she proved that if you have the backing of the Dems, WFP and ACORN in New Britain, you don't even have to do anything and you have a better than even chance of winning. Even Platosz, the 15 cent Chinese hot dog man proved that.
