STEWART WINS 4TH TERM!

MAYOR TIMOTHY STEWART WAS RE-ELECTED BY 231 VOTES--INCLUDING THE ABSENTEE BALLOTS.

"STEWART CALLED IT A NAIL BITER, BUT WE DID PICK UP SEATS."

WHEN ASKED BY SOMEONE IN THE CROWDED ROOM: DID O'BRIEN CONCEDE?

HE REPLIED I AM STILL WAITING TO HEAR FROM WYSKIEWICZ FROM TWO YEARS AGO!

I guess they didn't bus in enough red shirts from out of town to turn the results?

It looks like those Absentee Ballots gives Tim Stewart a nice victory for a 4th Term.

THANKS GOD, the radical extremist has been stopped!

I guess he will go back to Manchester!

While pleased that Mayor Stewart was re-elected, it was a disappointment that more voters didn't make it to the polls to give him a wider victory...he certainly deserves it!! GO, MAYOR STEWART!!

This election once again just proves how un-educated the voting public really is.

Paul Cantanzaro received the highest number of votes. He can continue his program of in-subordination and ethical breaches for another two years.

Laura Woodie a complete un-known nearly took out Lou Salvio. ACORN and the Democratic underground really does work in this community.

Silvia Cruz easily one again asleep at the wheel.

Hardworking, intelligent candidates Alphonse Wright, Julie Swan, Craig Diangelo, Don Naples all lost to the sitting idiots in Wards 2 and 4.

The first order of business will be to re-appoint William Candelori to the Mattabassett District. No problem there for him.

Let's hope the GOP comes up with a strong candidate for the 24th district run next November ASAP.

Very disappointing that the people of NB keep voting the party line. They voted back in council Democrats who are some of the most partisan people I've ever seen, and do nothing to make progress in this city. Also disappointing was the fact that people didn't vote for some great candidates like Jason Gibson, Democrat who works for the Boys and Girls Club, Don Naples, a lifelong city resident and Democrat, and Julie Swan, another lifelong resident who has worked tirelessly for East Side NRZ since its inception. Really NB? You would rather have people who have recently moved to town and have done nothing to help the city than people who work hard every day of their lives to make life better for citizens? That is simply flabbergasting. I hope that this council is less partisan, and more concerned with making progress this time around, although I have my doubts. If people of NB care about their town, they need to start paying attention to what happens at council meetings and tell Democrats to stop the partisan politics they play with our city's future. I also hope that O'Brien and the Dems in the legislature start working hard to bring home more money, since the state is paying a smaller share of our school budget now (58%) than they were when he took office (63%). Perhaps he can also make good on his failed promise for property tax reform, although I'm not holding my breath.

Observation at the polls:

At Vance School Tim O'Brien spent all day greeting voters in Ward 1.
Note, our State of CT Treasurer, Denise Napier arrived in the afternoon complete with car and driver to lend her support to Mr. O'Brien? Guess we aren't having any budgetary issues at the treasurer's office. NICE!

Down the road two out-of town poll workers blocked the school walkway all day for Tim O'Brien. No interest in NB at all? They kept tallying voter turnout and percentages across the wards. Smalley school had an unusually higher rate of return at one point
returns were coming in at about 8-9% at most polls but Smalley school was up about 14%? What made the difference there?

New Britain firefighters were out all day for the Democrats. Juggling food and driving voters to the polls.

And to finalize, looks like Paul Cantanzaro may have the highest number of votes along with the longest list of ethical complaints he may sit as the Mayor's Majority
Pro Tem. The voter's spoke. Disgusting really.

Anyone know if O'Brien ever manned up and called to concede/congratulate Stewart?

Frank,
I want to thank you for your unwavering support during this past election. I can't thank the people of NB enough for giving me the honor of serving as their mayor for two more years. Even better than that we have two new alderpersons in Ward 1 in Willie Pabon and Mary Morocco. I am certain that they will bring a little more civility to the discussions on the council floor. It is very huimbling to win for the fourth time in a city that has such a disadvantage in numbers to the Republicans. Just goes to show you that even when the d's push votes in the obscure wards, taking advantage of the uneducated voters, they still could not pull it off. I'm looking forward to continuing my work for this great city and hope that civility returns and the issues don't create more partisanship than in the past.

The one thing lost in this whole election is the "People of New Britain"
Yes Congrats the the winners but with one of the lowest turnouts in recent years did we get the right people in...
And how about a conflict of interest where Mayor Stewarts Brother is in charge of handling votes @ NBHS...

N Merc:
I heard last night ( and you'll have to confirm with someone more "in the know") there was a call from O'Brien that consisted of 2 word: "Congratulations Tim" followed by a click, and the dial tone.

The photos in the Election Edition of Wednesday’s Hartford Courant and the New Britain Herald picture New Britain Mayor Timothy Stewart with his mother, Eileen, his wife Patricia, his daughter Erin and son Kevin at election night at his headquarters on Washington Street in New Britain.

While the Hartford Courant has published one photo of Democratic Mayor challenger Timothy O’Brien getting a hug from Marie Lausch, who ran unsuccessful for alderman in Ward 1; their no photos of Tim O’Brien’s wife Rhona and step-son Eoin at the Democrat headquarters.

One of the Tim O’Brien political mailer’s (Democrat For Mayor) has a retouched PHOTOSHOP picture of Tim O’Brien, his wife Rhonda and step-son Eoin. Although Tim relocated from Manchester CT to his apartment in City of New Britain, we the public have no knowledge of his mother, his family, his Manchester background and even of his wife Rhona.

Why was this O’Brien family information not forth- coming in this 2009 election? WHY the cover-up?

Lowest turnout in recent years? It's up from 2007 and, surprise, surprise, not as high as 2008.

Good Point!! No mention ever of O'Brien's parents and/or siblings. Does he have any, or is he a clone of some unknown entity?? Curious minds want to know...maybe Rick Guiness can find out for us.

Just goes to show you how far the liberal media will go to cover-up for one of their own fellow liberals!

Imagine the media attention if it were a Republican like Tim Stewart with something to hide? For certain there would be intensive investigations with live eye satellite trucks outside his house 24 hours a day.

Sounds like the Courant and the Herald are not any better than NBC being the Obama network, are they?

Another example is what they don't report about Candelori, a man with quite a checkered past, that the Democrats are going to give control of over $100 million of your tax dollars, and not a word to read about it, is there?

In my opinion, you might as well call the New Britain Herald the Working Families Herald.

NEW BRITAIN - On the last Sunday before a highly-contested municipal election comes to an end Tuesday, candidates are making their last minute campaigning in neighborhoods, storefronts and even churches… by JAMES CRAVEN- Staff Writer -10/31/09.

Although church orientated Tim O’Brien and Paul Catanzaro are Catholic, for political purposes they now attend regular church services and campaigning at their respective NB Black Churches to Get-Out-The-Vote. AMEN!

Democratic incumbent at-large candidate Paul Catanzaro harvesting those Get-Out-The-Vote endorsements from The Working Families Party and active parishioner at a NB Black Church = 4,287 Voters. AMEN!

At least the voters rejected putting a union louse on the council!

John McNamara, chairman of the Democratic Town Committee, also did not return a call Wednesday.

...oh where oh where could little Mac be hiding???

Congratulations to Mayor Stewart. Its unfortunate more members of Mayor Stewart's slate did not get elected. At least he picked up two more additional seats on the council. However, it is still not enough. And to the voter’s of NB who claim they could not vote for Mayor Stewart and the republican slate because their taxes have gone up, you just voted in 11 council members who will continue to fight the Mayor on doing good things for the city that will grow the grand list, control spending and help lower your taxes. If anyone is to BLAME for any increase in taxes, it is the DEMOCRATIC COUNCIL members and the UNEDUCATED VOTERS of NB.

Beats me to no end how in the world Paul Cantanzaro, with his unethical background, turned out to be the highest votegetter!! He was THE ONE I thought would be the most likely to get voted OUT of office!! Did Working Families fudge up the numbers???
