Meet and Greet with Candidate Linda McMahon in Cromwell

Linda McMahon, a candidate for U.S. Senate to fill the seat being vacated by Chris Dodd, held a meet and greet for residents of the Cromwell/Middletown area at the Crowne Plaza in Cromwell Saturday night.


Ms. McMahon was introduced by New Britain Mayor Timothy Stewart, who stated that he knew when he first met Ms. McMahon that she was a person who is concerned with the adversities happening in Washington and is a worthy candidate without any political baggage in her hip pocket. The Mayor said that she came to New Britain and supported my last campaign and I was absolutely surprised on how people immediately took a liking to her.

The Mayor continued by stating that is why he supports her, because she is a great person and knows what is needed in Washington. The Mayor said “I am glad to be here in support for her this evening and will be glad to help her in her campaign along the way.“

Ms. McMahon said that as Senator, you must represent all the people of CT, and that you must have good management and negotiation skills, to fully represent your constituency. Linda said “If our current representatives in Congress had been working for my company, they would all have been fired by now because of their poor performance.” She continued by indicating that she will not accept funding from special interests and Pac’s and as a result, will not owe anything to them. Linda said her company employs over 500 people in CT, so she has the experience to know what it takes to run a business and what it means to have to meet a payroll. With the ten percent unemployment rate nationally, Linda said she decided to run in order to make a difference in Washington.

She said that she supports term limits for Congress and that the stimulus is not working just like the TARP funding failed. She acknowledged that she originally had supported the TARP proposal after hearing the Treasurer and financial experts claiming that without Tarp, the country would collapse, and went on to acknowledge those claims have turned out to be inaccurate. Linda also explained that many of the banks have repaid the TARP money--with interest, and that she disagrees with the plans the current administration has for spending the repaid money on more programs--instead of using the payments to reduce America’s debt.

Linda went on to tell the crowd that the stimulus failed because it didn’t include money for small businesses with tax incentives which would have changed the business climate in our nation, and instead the administration is trying to force small businesses to provide health insurance to their employees. She went on to say that she believes that the current leaders in Washington do not recognize the financial risks businesses face by investing their own capital for a potential profit, and that the stimulus bill did not put money into the pockets of small businesses so they could expand their production and hire more employees—which she said could have been accomplished simply by lowering the corporate tax rates to make more cash available for businesses to invest in their own success.

She went on to explain that Washington is stifling the ability of small businesses to expand and that businesses should be free to hire the people they want and need to grow their businesses, but right now most business owners are afraid to expand—mainly because of the fears of what bureaucrats in Washington have in store for them through future increases in taxation and mandates like mandatory health care, “card check” and “cap & trade.”

Linda closed by addressing the major issues facing America, such as the way Congress just approved the massive 1.6 Trillion dollar increase in our nation’ s debt ceiling, the need to bring back industry to our nation and the need to fight the “cap & trade” proposal, and “card check”.

Linda said that as a nation, we should not spend what we do not earn and that we must have a balanced budget. Linda also spoke of the need to protect our borders because we are facing increased challenges by terrorists who want to harm us. Linda spoke of the need to change the way business is conducted in Washington and said that we do not need career politicians, but instead, people with business experience and the knowledge of how to balance a budget.
