Mayor said...: Now the project can begin formally. This police station will be the catalyst project for the entire downtown revitalization efforts of my administration. Hopefully we can fasttrack this and put some well deserving people back to work in NB, especially the trades people who have a nearly 30%unemployment level for the past two years.
Still trying to understand the opposition to this project from a couple of alderman. Unfortunately in this economy if we don't stimulate ourselves with work, nobody is going to come in and save our local economy. Watch for the developments in the next few months and thank you Frank for your continued support of this great city!

I wasn't able to attend the Council meeting last night, and wasn't aware that the city was thinking of moving this forward on our own. Will the public have an opportunity to weigh in on any part of the design phase? Also, how will the change in who is developing the police station benefit the city? Hermanowski talked about some building committee on which he served a hundred years ago - he refuses to get his head of the sand and realize that police work has exploded in changes in technology, the ways evidence is gathered, etc. Police work has had to adapt to these changes; so must police buildings.
