I would have to agree with Phil Sherwood on this one. As a retailer of children's items, I am always looking for companies that mfg. with children's safety in mind. The items in question are low cost, import, items. Quick pick-up children's gifts that can find there way into a child's mouth
etc. Whenever we can legislate improved safety for our children, we should. Conversely, American Made specialty companies usually come through with safe products. You can expect a little higher price, better quality and they support the local economy.

This jerk has his Obama socialist rhetoric down pat because all the committee members voted for his stupid bill except one.

How could so many republicans fall victim to sherwood's socialist propaganda?

The biggest problem in New Britain politics is that under J. McNamara the democratic majority dismisses all and any Republican idea only because its a Republicans idea. Attacking Alderman Sherwood and his Ideas simply because they are his ideas is just plain foolish.

To continue to attack good ideas only because they come from poor legislators will only strengthen the false argument that conservatives are only blocking legislation because a Democrat proposed it.

If we as conservatives are not careful both locally and nationally issues like these will slow or stop the momentum we have going into the next election cycle.

As if any local business that has to deal with the repressive taxes of this state, along with the ridiculous demands of the unions, is going to compete with manufacturers in China or India where they pay 15 to 18 cents per hour for an 18 hour work day, and a 6 day work week with no such thing as overtime?

Sally,

Phil Sherwood is trying to destroy America. He is just exploiting children to push his socialist agenda and kill our country and take away our freedoms.

How does Phil know cadmium is unsafe? Is he a scientist? NO! This is just another attempt to push government on people as the solution. If parents want to buy toxic toys that is their right, if they don't want to they won't? This is America not A. Hitlers Germany.

I'm guessing but most people probably never heard of cadmium except that the name appears on cartons or packages of rechargeable batteries
(nickel-cadmium). Again I'm guessing that few people even know that Cadmium is very toxic. Rather than taking a chance that people will become aware of the toxicity by some miracle, better to remove it from toys. We did this with toy lead soldiers and toys painted with lead paint, and others.
This gambit by Phil is better than the useless, toxic legislation that Phil pushes to get personal notariety.

why do we need the government to decide what we can and can not buy?

To the blogger that feels the need to call me out for supporting legislation to protect children because Phil Sherwood has his name associated with it:

The deep political divide in this country is responsible for destroying America and is responsible for the exploitation of many issues and people on both sides of the isle.

This particular legislation focuses on protecting children from dangerous toxins and somehow this gets turned around as a "freedom stripper" and "communism".

As business owner in the state of CT I am the last person who supports big goverment, to the contrary. As a parent, grandparent and retailier of children's products I agree with this proposal. I am proud to have more conscience over what I sell to people than to have the freedom to turn a quick buck at the expense of exposing a child.

This angry blogger should focus on big issues that are stripping American's of their freedom like our new IRS enforced health care bill.

Sally,

Don’t you realize that the ignorant person who wrote “If parents want to buy toxic toys that is their right, if they don’t want to they won’t?” (beside not knowing the English language) doesn’t really care about anything other than hating those who oppose them. It doesn’t matter to them if the idea is a good idea or not, all they care about is themselves and their own agenda. If you don’t believe me, stand your ground and oppose them on another issue and you too they will hate and say all sorts of immature things about.

As bad as Phil Sherwood may be, this type of person is even worse because nothing good can ever become of hate.

My point has nothing to do with Cadmium. It has to do with Sherwood and his desire for power in order to create a government that pushes HIS values on OTHERS.
This Senator Meyer is the guy that ran against a leading conservative and Republican state Senator Aniskovich. Sherwood recruited Senator Meyer to run as a)longshot, and b)a carbetbagger --came from New York. Sherwood managed this guy Meyer's campaign and he won. Now Meyer his promoting Sherwood's agenda. Meyer is the guy that did Sherwood's stupid lead toys bill that passed. THIS IS WHAT WE SHOULD BE FIGHTING!!! My points have little to do with cadmium. They have to do with how this jerk of a kid operates.
Thank goodness our Republicans on the City Council understand this and oppose everything with his name on it. They need to keep voting no no matter what. Sherwood should not get what he wants. EVER! And Mayor Stewart needs to keep telling the public about this kid. If only others (Sally?) had the courage of our Mayor to call Sherwood out for who he is every time they get a chance.

I would have no hesitation in calling Phil Sherwood out on any issue necessary. My blogger foe knows this. I would do so face to face. I wouldn't make blog attacks.

Again, the deep political divide is sending good decent Americans further left and further right because being the winner is more important than being a good fellow American. We all have to live together and we will never agree 100% of the time. Our goverment is broken when the disregard for the constitution is put upon the American Public by the Democratic party. Our constitutional rights have just been violated, a crime committed. But the republicans hold some responsiblity too. They didn't have a good solid alternative at a time of extreme opportunity and support from the American public. It will come. And when it does be confident this country will re-bound. Right now it is coming from a political leader that draws her own critisms from her own party. Remember that Ronald Reagan drew critism and was touted to be nothing more than a hollywood actor? We need leaders who can energize the American public to stand up and be strong, to take pride in standing on our own two feet, to tell the goverment, we don't need you to help us. Hard work is the back bone of this country. We need voters to rally around this message. Anger is slowing the process.

Good point Sally, Ronald Reagan was probably the most beloved President ever, I suppose because after Jimmy Carter virtually destroyed this country, Reagan turned it around by slashing taxes and reducing government--getting the government out of the way and letting the private sector do what they do best.
