RTC Candidates speaks out

Dear New Britain Republican Town Committee member,

This email is to inform you that two former City Council candidates will be vying for leadership positions within the New Britain Republican Town Committee at the March 23 meeting.

Dwight Blint will be seeking the chairmanship and Jamie Giantonio will be seeking the vice chairmanship. We are now asking for your support.

If we are successful, we hope you will give us your energy, your ideas and your continued commitment to our conservative ideals. Our goals are to use our marketing, communications and strategic development skills to:

Help raise the profile of the NBRTC and its candidates Boost the committee’s community outreach and fundraising efforts Confront and correct the false and misleading assertions often made by our opponents at public meetings and in the media

We believe that with the implementation of an aggressive and effective strategy, an increasing number of local residents will repudiate the tax-and-spend policies of the past, and come to understand that our city’s long term viability depends solely on its ability to:

Cut taxes
Shrink government
Reduce spending on city services and education Spur economic development Attract and retain the middle class

Jamie has a great passion for New Britain. He and his wife are lifelong residents, and their families have deep roots here and within the NBRTC. Dwight is a relative newcomer; however, he has been a volunteer supporting Mayor Tim Stewart and the Republican slate of candidates for the past five years. His wife’s family is originally from New Britain and has strong connections to the city and the Republican Party. Both Jamie and Dwight ran for City Council last year.

As many of you know, national polls are showing that 2010 is shaping up to be a great year for Republicans. We think that with the right preparation, the NBRTC and the City of New Britain can benefit from this renaissance.

We hope that you will allow us the privilege of leading the local Republican Party during this very exciting time. Please attend the March 23 NBRTC meeting at City Hall. The meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m.

We look forward to working with you. If you have any questions, please contact us directly.

Sincerely,

Dwight F. Blint Jamie Giantonio

For years the complaint has been made that the RTC needs new ideas and new faces. Two dedicated city residents step forward and there is nothing but negative comments at the blog. Fault is found with Mr. Blint's voter registration and his wife's family ties and his "Obama like" ideas. Mr. Giantonio is also attacked for being Mr. Steele's son-inlaw.

Give these two gentlemen a chance. Mr. Giantonio has demonstrated his commitment to New Britain time and time again. We should have confidence in him wanting the best for all of us. He lives here, pays taxes, is a parent in the school system. Although I do not know Mr. Blint as well, he worked hard on his campaign for city council showing an ability to energize the republican party.

Neither Mr. Blint or Mr. Giantonio have given up instead they are staying the course. Reason to give them an opportunity to make a positive difference.

I don't think that asking questions is "negative". Jamie and Dwight are new to the RTC, Dwight has been a member for less than 4 months. People wanting to have more information before they make a decision is a good thing.

like grandma always said haste makes waste.

When some bloggers really have nothing of substance to say, they stoop to making unintellectual personal attacks on others; if you are going to base a person's worth as a candidate for an office on their mode of dress or some physical characteristic, in my opinion, you are a social boor who has nothing serious to offer about any subject, especially politics. Also, if a candidate's views are contrary to yours, state them but omit the personal attacks; then again, I guess I'm asking that your First Amendment Rights be abridged. Physically, you must be a perfect "10."
Also, if you think you know people like Mark Fortin, Julie Swan, or Don Gregory, then you must know that if any one of them wished to run for some office, they would. Why not suggest to them to place their names in as candidates?
By the way, Abe Lincoln had Marfan's Syndrome and FDR had polio - it crippled him - and George Washington had false teeth made of wood. Should these men have been Presidents?
Whoever you people are that make these ad hominem comments about others, you need to get a life, and look in the mirror!

P.S. Is this comment long enough?

Lou Salvio: Very Well Put, right on target.

Also, so what if Mr. Giantonio is Mr. Steele's son in law? He's qualified on his own merits!!
If you can do better, throw your hat in the ring!!

Lou,

We are talking about not knowing an individual who came out of the blue and decided to become a Republican. Fine. He was able with his contacts to become a member of the RTC, not that there is a long waiting list.

Tell me why he would not be satisfied being a regular member and earning his stripes like everyone before him. Why should he jump into the leadership position, other than being a friend of Tim Stewart?

I say to you that he is a RINO! This is the year if we ever had one to bring in the best and the brightest, those we can trust, it is this year. This is a character issue.

Sorry, Lou, I have long respected your tenacity. This time, you are barking up the wrong tree.

When the s*&# hits the fan, I will be happy to tell you in person who I am.

Alderman Salvio,
like you "I believe that the proper function of government is to do for the people those things that have to be done but cannot be done, or cannot be done as well by individuals, and that the most effective government is government closest to the people.
I believe that good government is based on the individual and that each person’s ability, dignity, freedom and responsibility must be honoured and recognised.
I believe that free enterprise and encouragement of individual initiative and incentive have given this nation an economic system second to none.
I believe that sound money policy should be our goal.
I believe in equal rights and equal opportunity for all, regardless of race, creed, age, sex or national origin. I believe that persons with disabilities should be afforded equal rights, equal justice and equal opportunities as well.
I believe we must retain those principles worth retaining, yet always be receptive to new ideas with an outlook broad enough to accommodate thoughtful change and varying points of view.
I believe that Americans value and should preserve their feeling of national strength and pride, and at the same time share with people everywhere a desire for peace and freedom and the extension of human rights throughout the world.
Finally, I believe that the Republican Party is the best vehicle for translating these ideals into positive and successful principles of government."

All people want to know is what does Dwight Blint and Jamie Giantonio think about how the NBRTC can reach the majority of Citizens who happen to share these beliefs but yet continue to vote for the other party?

It’s unfortunate that Dwight and Jamie have let this get out of hand. They could have silenced all this drama and just answered all the questions with the truth and without the attitudes however this all has been a telling tale of what we can expect from their lack of communication.

"It’s unfortunate that Dwight and Jamie have let this get out of hand. They could have silenced all this drama and just answered all the questions with the truth and without the attitudes however this all has been a telling tale of what we can expect from their lack of communication”--The only time I got an attitude was when someone resorted to personal attacks on someone else.

I have more than willing to answer questions. I made my email and phone number available to anyone who wanted to talk. I received an email from one RTC member with some question/concerns and sent him back an almost 2 page response. I have tried my best to sift through tons of blog posts to answer as much as I can.

The last question asked- “All people want to know is what does Dwight Blint and Jamie Giantonio think about how the NBRTC can reach the majority of Citizens who happen to share these beliefs but yet continue to vote for the other party?”

First off, this is not an easy thing, and it is not going to happen overnight. I will cut and paste from my response to the other RTC member yesterday “I think fund raising and community involvement is where we really need to ramp things up. We need to get ourselves into the community. There are plenty of fairs, festivals and events in town, and we need to make our presence felt. There are also many ways to assist the community, Christmas in April, park cleanups; the list goes on and on. We need to get our folks there, representing the RTC and doing good things for New Britain. Same with raising money; we need to be more aggressive. We need to come up with ways to make money, and then spend that money to help get our message and our candidate’s messages out to the masses.

I would like to see us ramp the RTC website up even more, get involved with the social networking mediums, Facebook for one. The Beehive lights thing was a perfect example of the power of Facebook. A group was set up encouraging folks to come out and object to the council’s denial of the lights. A few hundred people joined the group and 40+ showed up for the meeting.

Jamie,
You are not the problem. Why aren't you running for chairman?

A friend said...

A true leader steps forward and says “I’ll do it” when no one else wants the job.

That's all Dwight and Jamie are guilty of. If you have concerns about their experience or fitness, why not step forward then. But I guess, it's easier to sit in the cheap seats and criticize.

And neither of them have criticize anyone for asking questions. In fact, they have encouraged people to call and write them.

Obviously, you're not really interested in finding more about them.

So, what is your real motivation?

Anonymous said...

Yes, Jamie "you're not the problem."

Don't you get it Jamie - some members of the NBRTC social club just don't want an "outsider" joining, much less being in a leadership position. They would rather stay ineffective than have an "outsider" try to help.

That's why all these "concerned people" haven't made any actual efforts at all to contact you guys to get their "concerns" addressed. Because no matter what Dwight says or how qualified he is, he will always be an "outsider."

Wink, knod, I think you know what I mean.

Here is a great example of a someone who is trying to steer the conversation away from legitimate debate. Must be a liberal troll.

A. attack the RTC as a whole

"""members of the NBRT social club """

B. Attempt to alienate those who are working to improve the RTC.

"""just don't want an "outsider" joining, much less being in a leadership position. They would rather stay ineffective than have an "outsider" try to help."""

C. Attempt to devide.

"""That's why all these "concerned people" haven't made any actual efforts at all to contact you guys to get their "concerns" addressed."""

D. And the dead give away. The race card! Always a liberals best friend.

"""Because no matter what Dwight says or how qualified he is, he will always be an "outsider."

Wink, knod, I think you know what I mean."""

The anatamy of a liberal trolls web post. Ignorance is bliss i guess.

Ah, so if this turns out to be a good idea you continue to hide behind anonymity? Is that why you won't put your name to your words, for fear that you might actually have to answer for them?

Another missed opportunity

The answer to independent voter when he asked Dwight what he would do to bring more people into the Republican Party should have been along these lines…

Dear Independent Voter,

Thank you for your question. The answer I am quick to give because it is what burns hottest in my heart!

What I would do first is make sure that our committee knows the importance of the values and beliefs which we as Republicans stand for. I will very clearly state these and have dialog as to why others believe these values and what they mean to them. I will assure everyone that I will not allow anyone to belittle them for their opinions and ideas and explain how they can count on me to be a neutral party to all discussions and will only voice my opinion when there is a tie or to make a tie in any given vote.

I would make sure that every member of the committee feels welcomed and needed. No member would ever hear me say an ill word about another member understanding that this would only serve to divide our party and on the same note I would not allow one member say a negative word about another member in my presence without respectfully asking them not to weaken our party by passing along gossip or speaking idle words.

I would get everyone motivated by giving them the respect they deserve and would never ask anyone to do anything that I myself wouldn’t do. Also I would never ask them to do more than they can handle and would pair them up with people who are also willing and able to help.

No one group or person would have more say than the other and every member would be equal, one with another. We would be a committee united as One. I would make it very clear that “clicks” would not be tolerated since “clicks” are counter productive to the Republican cause.

I would ask those of the more mature age to mentor those who are younger and would encourage the younger members to listen intently to the advice of the more mature members explaining that in experience comes wisdom. I would encourage more activities that are more social in nature understanding that those who enjoy each others company get more good done in our community than those who are always at odds with each other.

I promise that as the chairman of the Republican Party of New Britain, CT to behave myself at all times with respect. When I speak, the words will be such that others will hear them and respect them. The Democrat Committee Chairman will stand in such contrast to me that he will feel ashamed of himself and the foolishness he stands for and others will clearly see the ways of his follies.

Independent Voter, since you already believe in our values as you have so clearly stated to Alderman Salvio, I am willing to bet you would fit right into our committee.

Since I have answered your question, would you be so kind as to answer one question of mine? How would you like to join the Republican Party and also join the Republican Town Committee? I have been reading the posts that you have made here and also on the Herald’s Blogs and we can use more people like you on our committee. Only thing is you would need to leave your anonymity at the door.

Sincerely yours,

Me

I would say that if Mr. Blint and Mr. Giantonio would clearly and publicly state their platform as a conservative and publicly and clearly state their opposition to the liberal position in this city they should have an opportunity to campaign for official positions on the committee.

Problem is, I don't think they can do that in good conscience.
