FRANKSMITHSAYSNB EDITORIAL:
One of the most interesting moments of the Common Council meeting held on 5-12-10 was when Mr. McDonald of the Downes Construction Company announced that the design engineers, Kaestle Boos Associates, who has designed many police stations throughout our state has been the firm selected to draw up the blue prints stating that we are a team and we work well together.
Alderman Trueworhty question why their wasn't an RFP bidding procedure? With the Mayor responding that design work doesn't require an RFP'S.
Then the Majority leader, Alderman Phil Sherwood, jump in with his peppering many question directed to Mr. McDonald and finally referring to the "team" connection of Downes and Kaestle Boos is making me "very uncomfortable".
After the pompous display for the audience and the press both Aldermen Sherwood and Trueworhty voted in granting their approvals of the architectural selection.

Just more staged theater at taxpayer expense!
Trueworthy and Sherwood talks a lot but doesn't say anything.
Alderman Sherwood's response was appropriate. He justified why the city did not go our to bid and why it was in the best interest of the taxpayers in this case.
It was clumsy for the developer to speak about the cozy relationship they have. Sherwood was in the right to call him out on that.
Sherwood's comments we have all come to expect. Make yourself out to be a hero by refuting something said by a Republican.
Also, there was 20 minutes of worthless babble from Trueworthy concerning single stream recycling. Everybody expects that, too.

If Sherwood was right to call him out on that, then why did Lord Sherwood then turn around and vote to approve the deal? Sounds like someone is talking out of both sides of his mouth--typical liberal! He was against it before he was for it!
I guess Mrs. Sherwood didn't get her way? Last I read, she wanted the Sherwood's to move out of town because supposedly the New Britain school system was not good enough for her children. Didn't I read that on here a while back or was it in The Herald???

Majority Leader of the Common Council Agitates
FRANKSMITHSAYSNB EDITORIAL:
During the Standing Bonding Subcommittee meeting of the Common Council an unusual argument happened between the Council's Majority leader, Phil Sherwood, and a member of the Board of Education over the Bonding issue.
It seems that the Majority Leader expressed to that Board member that he wants to allocate more funding for the DiLoreto school project because he has two children in the school system and that his wife wants him to move out of town to a better school system. The board member immediately responded with " you are not in this for the overall representation of your constituents but for your own interest as an alderman."
I believe this carpet bagger's wife has it right and that he should move his family back to where they came from along with his agitator method of operation where his style will be unwelcomed.
I was at the bonding meeting regarding the DiLoreto School. The bond was for 10 million dollars. Many of us, Phil Sherwood included felt that this project could run over. When a project runs over we will not receive state funding. It was approved with fingers crossed that this amount will do the job and do it well. Mr. Sherwood mentioned his own children in discussion but his wife and children were not the focus of the meeting and it was not perceived by me to be a personal agenda of Phil Sherwood's.
This last bloggers post adds more agitation getting in the way of progress.
"Sherwood's comments we have all come to expect. Make yourself out to be a hero by refuting something said by a Republican."
Mark Bernacki had said that he was comfortable with the Kaestle-Boos Co. because he had extensive knowledge of other work the firm had done.
Sherwood countered that he wanted better reasons to award a contract that one person's knowledge of a firm.
Sherwood had no trouble being a hypocrite on the Story Bros. request to be granted a permit to display used cars on a lot not zoned for same. He was impressed by all the folks that came to speak on Story's behalf but, he completely ignored the negative report given to Story's request by the City's professional planning official. Hypocrisy uber alles.
A democrat told me Sherwood changed his mind only after Alderman Salvio lambasted an attorney representing Story Brother's for questioning city officials. NOW SHERWOOD IS DEFENDING CITY OFFICIALS?! Hypocrite for sure!!!
There should be NO cars at that spot but it appears that Lou Salvio having a hard time controlling his temper is the main reason it passed. Enough already, can't we do anything to control Mr. Salvio!!!
Why would we want to control Alderman Salvio? He seems to be one of the few Aldermen who actually represents the true will of the people. You should be looking for ways to control radical extremists like Trueworty and Sherwood.
Sure I agree! But Mr. Salvio's combative nature (at times) makes it easier for Mr. Sherwood and Trueworthy to rally their commie allies on the board.
Can't we see that?
In my opinion the commies on the council would rally behind their radical leadership no matter what. There has been much written in the past about their mindless, cult like following.
Focus on the real enemies: Sherwood, Trueworthy and the dumbocrats!
We can't control Salvio's loud mouth. We need him though so let's focus on the real problem. Lou almost lost to a noname who did nothing to get elected, don't beat on him, we need him.
There was a meeting of democrats where it was talked about whether Sherwood, O'Brien or Catanzero should run for Mayor. If we spend time spitting on each other we may end up with one of these Socialist democrats.

I don't accept any criticism from anyone like the one above who hides behind anonymity.
Lawyers like the one who represented Mr. Story are not professional City Planners that write objective, professional opinions about the efficacy of zoning issues. I did not question the right of the lawyer to have an opinion, I resented him telling the planner how he should have written a report. There is a difference. And besides, I can lambaste better than what I did.
If Sherwood can change his vote based on what I say to an attorney, then Sir, you need to direct your comments to him and his motives. In addition, I won't be "controlled" by anonymous people or anyone else, and especially by someone "controlled" by Sherwood - the Democrat that Anonymous mentioned.
If you wanted to see "control" you should have seen the people that attended the 5/12/10 Council meeting who came out on behalf of, not the zone variance, but on behalf of Mr. Story - he's a nice guy and has been in business for a long time. There was also a religious person and a member of the city's ZBA (that is not kosher). In the end everyone on the Council wilted under that pressure but two people; guess who? The variance was passed, but not because it was a good move for the City but because the petitioner had the votes. Now, Sir, what or who needs to be controlled? You want to talk with me or to me, call me but first, get adequately informed.
All anyone has to do is look to Greece to demonstrate where Sherwood and Trueworthy are attempting to lead this city.
Socialism has failed anywhere it has ever been attempted.
If you like what is happening in Greece, then keep supporting the socialist agenda!
If the people who comment on this blog want to see and hear what really happens/is said at Council meetings, watch them on TV. Then you will see that if it were not for Bernacki and Salvio nobody in New Britain but liberal Democrats would have a voice on the Council. Craven's articles have a liberal bias as do the articles of all Herald staff.
If you want fair and balance thoughts on political issues in The Herald, read Columnist Chris Powell.
If what you say is true, than that might explain why it is just one more paper that appears to be floundering, much like many of the other liberal media in the country.
Rupert Murdock, owner of Fox News, The Wall Street Journal and the New York Post was on TV bragging that he is proud to be the CEO of the only major news operation in the country that is actively recruiting while most of the others are laying off hundreds of employees!
The people are clearly tired of the one sided liberal reporting of these radical news sources, and are rejecting them by not reading their papers or watching their networks anymore.
How else can you explain that Glenn Beck, Bill O'Reilly and Sean Hannity have the most watched news programs in the country, having many times more viewers than all their competition combined? Or that USA Today is so seemingly successful?
If the people are rejecting the liberal papers by no longer subscribing, why do you think that is?
You might think that the leadership of these liberal newspapers would recognize that the people are rejecting their style of reporting and try emulating the news agencies that are succeeding at historic levels. At least that would seem to be the sensible thing to do, but do their own personal biases interfere with such common sense?
Some papers would also seem too radical to do anything but keep pushing their own liberal agendas right into bankruptcy, especially since so many liberals are seemingly consumed by their desire to force socialism onto everyone.
Calm down now, take it easy, don't worry....
I'll stop worrying in November when conservatives take control of both the House and Senate.
