New Britain, CT – The New Britain Republican Town Committee will issue four Freedom of Information requests to state and city officials Monday in an attempt to obtain all communications surrounding the council’s decision to spend $20,000 to hire an attorney to sue the city’s mayor.
“I believe this is an extremely dangerous precedent that Council Democrats are trying to establish,” said NBRTC chairman Dwight Blint. “This issue can and should be resolved outside of the courts and without expense to taxpayers.”
“Imagine how we are going to look to potential homebuyers or businesses that are interested in moving to our city. This is only going to hurt taxpayers, negatively impact the city’s image, and deepen an already divisive political atmosphere within the city,” Blint said.
The four individuals who will receive the FOI requests are Alderman Phil Sherwood, Alderman Michael Trueworthy, State Rep. Timothy O’Brien and the city’s Corporation Counsel Gennarro Bizzarro.
Through the state’s Freedom of Information Act, the NBRTC will be requesting that Sherwood, Trueworthy, O’Brien and Bizzarro provide all communications they’ve had with each other regarding the Mayor’s veto and the Council’s subsequent decision to hire Stephen Mednick.
The NBRTC believes that the actions of the Democratic leadership of the Board of Aldermen are a reckless waste of already limited taxpayer dollars. Many residents are finding it difficult to comprehend why the members of the city council would take such a draconian measure as to sue a duly elected mayor for acting within the confines of the charter.

It is interesting that NB Democratic Town Chairman John McNamara would compare this scenario to the Mayor engaging in grievances with the NB Fire mens Unions. Unions and municipalities engaging in disputes over contracts and turning to the courts is common pactice.
The legislative branch (Common Council)suing the executive branch (mayor Stewart) and refusing to accept the opinion of corporation counsel is not realistic.
This is what happens when a group of left wing radical zealots don't get their way. They will stop at nothing to tear down anyone who opposes the brand of socialism they continually attempt to ram down everyone else's throats. If they like European socialism so much, let them move to Europe instead of continuing in their efforts to destroy this city, this state, and this country.
I applaud the efforts of the RTC in standing up to these radicals and trying to bring some common sense back to city hall.

Sounds to me like McNamara is trying to be defacto mayor through his minions on the council, except for one problem, the people chose Tim Stewart over McNamara's other minion, the wacked out liberal extremist that little mac put up against Stewart in the last election.
Perhaps this will be the straw that broke the camel's back. The people who have to pay for this nonsense through their taxes really seem to be getting fed up with the childish antics these liberal loons have been pulling, especially now when it is going to impact every person who pays taxes through their pocketbooks.
It was one thing to watch them play their silly games before, but now that everyone has to ante up more money to cover the costs, people are really paying attention.

In the past decade New Haven Attorney Mednick has drafted new city charters for city's of Hartford, Waterbury, New Britain and East Windsor.
New Haven Attorney Mednick has also represented the Towns of Darien and Portland on charter revision efforts. He has also restructured many of the central service structures for the City of Waterbury: procurement, civil service, ethics, administrative practices and pensions.
New Haven Attorney Mednick has revised the civil service regulations for the City of Hartford and is presently restructuring the procurement and affirmative action ordinances for former Hartford Mayor Eddie Perez as well as completely re-writing Hartford's Code of Ordinances.

Don't be so sure that the FOI requests won't reveal information that could take down some of your beloved radical extremists, so don't start celebrating yet!
I think Martha Dean would have been a better choice for an attorney who could give an impartial opinion!
Wouldn't an expenditure like this have to be sent out to bid? What if another qualified attorney were willing to do it for $10,000. Wouldn't the taxpayers be better off?
How much taxpayer money will it cost for a partisan request by Mr. Blint to the state and to prove what? Another $20K?
Under the law Mr. Blint can be held liable for costs of requests that are without merit. What political games!
Sherwood is demonstrating his immaturity similar to a little boy who picks up his marbles and runs home to mommy because he didn't get his way.
To the bleeding heart liberal who is attacking Mr. Blint regarding the cost of the documents he requested:

Thanks to Alderman Sherwood's FOI ordinance he rammed through last year, everything Mr. Blint requested must be provided to him free of charge per Sherwood's ordinance. Sherwood was all over the news last year quoted as saying it was simply not fair to charge people for copies of documents, especially since their tax dollars paid for the documents in the first place, so you must give Mr. Blint everything he seeks for free!
In summary, to answer your question, YOU will pay for Mr. Blint's documents, whether you like it or not, and if you don't like it, thank Sherwood!
It will be interesting to see if the king of FOI laws will comply with his own ordinance, or will he like most elitists believe he is above the law, even if it is a law he wrote himself?

The night that Sherwood invited the BOE to meet with the Council, he made a promise to the BOE; he would not vote for any budget that didn't add millions of dollars to the education budget. That's what this/his act is all about, power and ego! He is willing to raise taxes to try to prove his point.

To Tim O'Brien (Im sure you are reading this)..... why are you going to run for State Rep again if you are only going to try to run for Mayor of NB in the Spring ? It does not make sense that you will waste the time , money and effert of those that voted for you, only to vacate the seat if you get the chance. That shows your lack of morals and charactor. People do notice that you have spent about half of the last 4 yours campaigning and not working.

In my opinion, that is not only not something to brag about, but something to be ashamed of.
