The NB Town Committee Forum A Fiasco!

It began with a union rally in the Central Park Green prior to the scheduled meeting. They peppered the open forum with teachers and union members.

The Republican Town committee members also attended with former board of education member Pater Kochel attacking the Republican Town Committee Chairman, Dwight Blint, citing “he was full of baloney” with his asserting that the school system really doesn’t need the 1.5 Million dollars; which was the main dialog pertaining to the Mayor’s budget cut.

COPA President pointed out that he sent an FOI request to the Mrs. Kurtz requesting the cost for the English brochure that was enclosed with our local newspapers when 60% of our students do not speaks English as their primary language. She has replied with the cost being $18,000 and $100,000 dollars for the consulting fee additionally.

The claim by the Democratic leaders of the Mayor’s action being the main assertion that he is hurting the school system. Robert Sanchez, the school board vice president, cited referring to the mayor’s cuts “it doesn’t look good.”

Claims that we should not just attack the school budget and look at the rest of the city budget. Jamie Giantainio rejected that comment by pointing out that the Park and recreation budget that he chairs saw no increase but contractual obligations within the labor contracts.

Phil Sherwood added that even if the 1.5 million dollars should be restored many board positions would be eliminated.

The DTC Chairman never discussed that his legislative members have not representing New Britain school needs properly by their not getting the necessary funds for our city from the state.

The major comment came from President Pro-tempore with his announcing that the mayor’s budget veto “cannot be overridden“.

So if they know that the veto can't be overridden, what is the $20,000 for?

Correction. Cost for a single issue of the Educator is $18k. The total public relations budget is $100k. Dr Kurtz states that money has been removed from FY 2010-2011 budget.

I'll bet there were some doors getting kicked on Commonwealth Avenue after that announcement!

At last night's meeting did Sherwood pick up his marbles and run home?

Sherwood, Trueworthy, O'Brien, Little mac, Pudlin, Kochol, Sanchez(?) will try to spin this as a great coup.

Truth is, it was a bust. When do the ordinary taxpayers get heard? Must it always be a D vs. R situation. Where are the erudite words from our state legislators? They doon't exist because they have none, just, vote for me in Novemner and I'll give you everything you need.

The entire party is throwing Sherwood under the bus! Maybe this will teach him about home shooting off his mouth so much, but I doubt it!

Couple of things. I have missed Betty Boop whoever you are. Stay with us!

Thanks to Mike W., we have learned that the BOE was spending $100,000 of the tax payers money on PR for a fallen school district.

I am curious to know where Doris Kurtz and Gene Pianka reported this in the budget. Surely, some of the good BOE members would have noticed it if it was not a hidden item.

Seems like Kochel has once again reared his head. Did he mention that his two sons went to magnet schools at taxpayer expense? Did he mention that he voted to bring Kurtz on as superintendent and totally supported her as long as he was on the BOE!

On Wednesday night Trueworthy acknowledged that the council does not have the authority to override the mayor's veto, but on Thursday he called an emergency meeting of the council to proceed with spending $20,000 to hire the liberal Democratic attorney to do that anyway? And does anyone believe this would only cost $20,000?

Why should they care, since it is not their money they are wasting, it is yours!

Pay attention to Robert Sanchez. Rumor has it that John MacNamara has been grooming him to take over the DTC chairmanship...

I guess O'Brien didn't write "Working Families Party" in big enough letters on his work boots, or did the public simply reject his association with such a radical group of misfits?

Looks like the Dems really do control both the Herald and the Hardware City Journal.

Both papers prAised the DTC meeting for a dialogue.

Looks like we've only got Frank to take our side.
