-OCTOBER FOLLOW-UP MEETING WITH CITY OF NEW BRITAIN FINANCE DIRECTOR CURRY TO OCCUR IN OCTOBER
NEW BRITAIN, Connecticut (September 7, 2010)-
The Citizens Property Owners Association, Inc. (CPOA) will hold its quarterly general meeting on Thursday, September 23rd at 7pm in Room 201 of New Britain City Hall. In excess of 85 years old, the CPOA is Connecticut’s oldest taxpayer organization. Members and those interested in cost effective government are invited to attend. The September meeting will be one of two “back to back” meetings featuring speakers of interest to taxpayers.
September’s meeting features New Britain Board of Education President Sharon Beloin-Saavedra, and BoE Member Paul Carver, the Chairman of the Finance and Facilities Committee.
“We are excited that President Saavedra and Board of Education Member Carver have agreed to speak to taxpayers in friendly dialogue about various issues surrounding the financing of education in New Britain. We hope that the issues of the last budget cycle can be examined and discussed to clarify many questions which taxpayers may still have. We also look forward to their thoughts on the next fiscal year and beyond as the issue of funding is one which will be ever present.”
CPOA will follow up the September session with an October 28th meeting featuring City Finance Director Robert Curry.
Current members are welcome, as are new members.
ABOUT CPOA: The objective of the association shall be “to foster, encourage and promote interest in all activities of local, state and regional agencies by local taxpayer groups as those activities affect taxpayers of New Britain and the State of Connecticut; also to develop and establish an agenda in support of certain legislative initiatives which would affect greater economy, efficiency and effectiveness in our state and municipal governments and disseminate information regarding such state and regional agency activities and legislative initiatives to the state’s and New Britain’s taxpayers.” (CPOA By-Laws 3.0)

NEW BRITAIN CT: Linda McMahon, former World Wrestling Entertinment CEO, is leading in Connecticut's U.S. Senate Race, 265 to 15, according to the brand new Avery's Beverage Soda Straw Poll
And McMahon's stop at the New Britain company Saturday may have helped her immediate popularity. She was there to taste test her "Linda's SmackDown Soda," a GOP red fruit punch flavored fizz that sells for $1 a bottle.
"I'll buy a case at least," said the game candidate, who, according to a straw poll based on soda sales so far, is way ahead of attorney general and Democratic challenger Dick Blumental. Seems his "Dick's Blue Menthol" blue raspberry/mint flavored soda is a little slow to catch on. Or maybe it just needs his star power?
McMahon, who recently welcomed grandchild number six, was greeted by a Republican crowd at the Corbin Avenue business that included New Britain mayor, Tim Stewart and Newington mayor, Jeff Wright, who is running for state treasurer.
Avery's head guy, Rob Metz, said he was contacted by the McMahon camp when he announced the company's two new soda flavors for the Senate showdown. Proceeds from the sale will be donated to the Prudence Crandall Center in New Britain.
You might remember Metz's other political soda straw poll showdown, the Barack O'Berry vs. John McCream. We know how that one really ended.
Metz decided the gubernatorial race in Connecticut this year didn't have enough fizz for a soda, opting instead to bottle for the more lively senate race.
"I will be bring it with me to Washington, D.C." announced McMahon after slugging down one of her fruit punch drinks. "I have never had a soda named afte me."
AVERY SODA POLL: McMahon 265 - Blumental 15.
The Blumental camp has been alerted that there is a soda with his name on it too, and, the attorney general-who -wants-to-be- senator plans
to make a soda stop as well in the City of New
Britain.
And if you have no particular feelings about the election or the soda poll, but want to help the Prudence Crandall Center by buying the beverages in a bi-partisan way, stop by Avery's Tuesday through Saturday. Telephone is 860- 224-0830,
The soda poll looks much like we would expect the election to look!
It shouldn't be a surprise that news about Democrats would come from the Courant since the dems on the council have decided to shut out the Herald. As a former member of the town committee, I think it is disgusting.

If the above quote were true - I don't think so - why would the Herald print that ridiculously stupid article by Lisa Backus this morning. I magine taking taxpayers moneies now to finance a project that is funded until the end of the year?
How did McMahon get tied in with this article about the school board? Wierd!
I guess Linda just simply has such a huge following that everyone wants to know her opinion on just about anything.

I can't figure that out either...I'm more interested in the CPOA agenda right now then Avery's bottling beverages for political candidates,
The appearance of Sharon Beloin-Saavedra and Paul Carver is just as important, if not more so, than the appearance of Linda McMahon at Avery Bottling.
