Who Does DeFronzo Represent?

FRANKSMITHSAYSNB EDITORIAL:

Currently, the 6th State Senate District is represented by Don DeFronzo. The City of New Britain and the Towns of Berlin and Farmington comprise the 6th State Senate District. Of these three, New Britain has the largest population and is considered an urban center. Berlin and Farmington are larger in area only and are considered to be suburban. DeFronzo is a native and resident of New Britain.

Of the three communities, New Britain’s problems are monstrous in comparison: higher unemployment rate; major problems with a dysfunctional education system; higher rate of poverty and a much higher proportion of minority populations. These disparities are all interrelated as contributing factors in creating the city’s problems.

New Britain is making a concerted effort to rebuild its downtown business district, an effort which has the potential of creating jobs, thereby decreasing unemployment and poverty and giving a positive lift to education. One might think that our State Senator would be advocating for the largest town in the district, the town with the greatest problems; to the contrary, DeFronzo is more interested in helping Bristol.

One of the keys to our downtown development plan is local transportation that has the potential to link NB to surrounding communities. For over a decade a New Britain/Hartford Busway project has been in the planning and, while plans are complete and while the Busway is considered a “shovel ready project” that would figure totally in NB’s development efforts, the final funding piece (Federal Funds) though promised, has yet to arrive.

In today’s Herald, DeFronzo dumps on the Busway project claiming that it would isolate NB from the proposed Hartford/Springfield. Not true! Plus, the New Haven/Hartford/Springfield rail line won’t be a reality for many, many years.

Since DeFronzo cares little about and has turned his back on his home town of New Britain, the people of New Britain should turn their backs on him. All DeFronzo cares about now is getting Malloy elected so he can in turn get a cushy state job. Rumor has it, DeFronzo is looking to be DOT Commissioner or a job at OPM.

Hi Frank,

I have to say it is more then a rumor about DeFronzo walking away from his seat if re-elected. As it reads in Friday's Herald on page 3, that he will take the postion of State Transportation Director ( when its offered to him).

Mr. Defronzo said: "we need to be more creative in developing policies to address the wide education gap in New Britain schools."

Why not offer school vouchers so that parents, and not government employees who belong to unions that donate money to your campaign, will be able to decide what schools would be better for their children?

You say that you are all about "the people" but yet you don't support a system where these poor inner city children could have access to private schools and are instead forced to go to whatever inferior city school a unionized government worker decides they must attend.

Who do you represent, the people or union bosses? "

Sounds like yet another career politician out to get whatever he can for himself at the expense of the rest of us.

Don DeFronzo really doesn't care about any of us. It's all about himself and his political friends and what he can do to secure their fat paychecks, retirement benefits and their sweet health care plans.
Don't even look back to the early days when he first started out and had some level of moral compass, that has long trailed off.

You figure it out. He was the president of a state employee union, getting his state salary to run the union before he was mayor, also getting state retirement benefits for the 4 years he was mayor.

How many state pensions and free state health care plans can one man collect?

Isn't it Defronzo who refused to serve his country when he was drafted?

DeFronzo is a snake! He is the Silas Marner of Pension collection! He never saw a government job he didn't like except that is, serving our country in the armed forces. In the latter respect, he's just a little worse than Blumenthal.

Last night we were all talking about how we gave all that we could to serve our country, and protect our Freedoms. While folks like Don DeFronzo ran off to Canada to avoid serving when his draft number came up. Yep a draft dodger !!! And Blumenthal's lies about serving active duty make us sick. We will vote to protect our Country, just like we fought for it. Vote Republican this year, and thats a vote fo America !

Do all the veterans in town still stand up and turn their back when DeFronzo speaks?

Well said Frank! Exposing Don for the snake that he has been for close to 40 years. Veterans for sure don't like him and while he gets elected every 2 years it's because of the minorities that he feeds with entitledments. Of course he protects himself and his family making sure he has jobs for his family and more that enough pensions to fund his retirement - i've lost count

And, he protects his loyal aide who not only has ethics problems but who is morally bankrupt.

The most disturbing part of the story is how the same government DeFronzo refused to serve now provides his a cushy pension and free health care for the rest of his life, a pension he earned while running the union and 4 years on leave from his job as mayor, so for about 8 years he never went to work, but thanks to the lavish union contract he still got paid and earned his pension and free health care.
