Alderman Louis Salvio Speaks of last night's council meeting

Since this past summer, Mayor Stewart has not been holding leadership meetings with Council leaders. In retaliation,

Democrats Mike Trueworthy and Phil Sherwood have decided to make him “pay.” Word has it that Mike and Phil choose one or two items from each Council meeting agenda to rail against in an attempt to make the Mayor’s life miserable Last night’s meeting (11/10/10) would not disappoint. What should have been a 15 minute meeting turned out to last hours.

In their inimitable, scheming, narcissistic and egotistical manner, the dynamic duo chose to attack a huge project, the building of the proposed Police Station in downtown, New Britain. As has been the case for the seven years that Stewart has been Mayor, Council Democrats have attempted to delay or block any project for which the Mayor may receive credit.

At the start of the meeting, Alderwoman Sylvia Cruz resigned from her Council position and was replaced by Emanuel Sanchez. Since Alderman Pabon (R) could not attend the meeting, Sanchez would be a needed security vote for Democratic scheming.

A resolution on the agenda would have approved initial funding to pay for initial building projects . Democrats balked! Why? Initially it was a contest of parsing of words. However the ultimate goal was soon apparent. Block the project. After repeating ad nauseum how much the dynamic duo does for the city, Trueworthy and Sherwood successfully changed the wording of the resolution to remove the address of the proposed project. This meant that a police station might be built, but where? Three Democrats joined the three Republicans in voting to stop this action. It was not enough. Trueworthy and Sherwood prevailed.

What this move may mean for New Britain is, federal funding and State funding may be withdrawn, financial penalties may ensue, hundreds of union construction jobs may be lost, and breach of contract suits may be issued! Way to go Democrats!

Finally, as the meeting ended and in a disgustingly utter show of hubris. Trueworthy exclaimed loudly, “ I just saved the City $33 million!” Really Mike? Read previous paragraph. The owner of Vito’s restaurant was at this meeting; I’m sure he was pleased with that statement.

The best line of the evening was offered by Alderman Bernacki to the democrats: " All you have for his resume` is that he lives on wasjhington street"?
The two never stop talking aldermen were left without words!

As Phil Sherwood will constantly remind people, "we have the numbers". So far, you can't change that fact.

I agree with all the remarks made by Alderman Louis Salvio and I wish to address my personal concerns over the potential loss of federal funding with the city facing a possible law suit for breach of contract.

Additionally, the loss of union construction workers that would help the city's economy.

Sounds like Pelosi, "We Won" so we can do whatever we want....

.....Maybe these 2 whack jobs need to heed warning to what eventually happened to Pelosi because of her reign of terror on the American people!

If you want things to change, then action is needed. Support the New Britain Republican Town Committee with your time and your donations. Give them the tools they need to replace these two clowns with candidates who will work towards the best interest of the city instead of themselves.

Send your donations to:

Two of them were Collins and Carlozzi. Don't remember the third but it was definitely not Centeno. He would sooner wet his pants than buck Sherwood; could have been Catanzaro (???).

Wouldn't you have to wake Mr. Centeno up during the meeting in order for him to wet his pants?

I suppose you could quietly put his hand in a bucket of warm water as he sleeps?

Phil Sherwood, you better realize that the voters are increasingly getting YOUR number...the municipal election is coming up next November...with your cocky attitude, your days on the council are numbered!!

The last time Phil and Mike had anything to say about the Police Department here in NB was the vote to secure bonding for the much needed and overdue police cars. The vote to approve passed. It passed. The democrats did not have the votes that night. They
created a re-vote and another vote and ultimately they got Carlo Carlozzi to run in and table the much needed police cars. After it was put back to council for review, Phil and Mike okay'd the bond. Control freaks. WTH is up in this city?

Now they are on to their next agenda which is the long anticipated new police station on Main Street. It is not up for review. It is seven years into the making but they would have everyone thinking it is time to consider where the new station is going to go. That is not the case. The police station will move forward on Main Street and hopefully, these two idiots won't cost taxpayers any extra money while they fool around with their egos.

Was Tim O'Brien at last nights council meeting?

The RTC needs to raise a lot of money and throw everything they have at ridding the Comon Council of Sherwood and Trueworthy. No one reads the papers. It must be done by direct mailing, billboards, etc. They are disgraceful whackos.

We have seen how blue Connecticut is. New Britain is worse. Let us do something about it besides whining!!

No one reads the papers.

There is a dwindling readership in the paper because it only reports one sided liberal versions of the news, so advertising in the Herald would be a complete waist of your money, because the only people who read it, share their extremist socialist views of how America should be.

Fair & Balanced obviously works. Fox News had more viewers than any of the liberal networks or even the broadcast TV networks watching their election night coverage, so it is clear that reporting the news fairly really pays off.

Maybe the Herald should try putting their liberal bias aside if for no other reason than the obvious benefits to their bottom line. News Corp, parent company of Fox News recently posted a quarterly profit in excess of $400 million--citing the enormous success of their cable networks as the main reason.
