By DON STACOM

The recent BOE meeting with the City Council regarding the BOE budget for next year many questions have surfaced as to why Doris Kurtz is Participating in these discussions since she is a lame duck.

The best thing for the BOE to do isask Kurtz to leave NOW. Pat her her salary until the end of the year and be done with her.

She will be nothing but troub;e for the next few months and screw the district even more.iness

But according to what Gerratana said during the debate, she found that no financial problems whatsoever exist at the Board of Education while supporting the wild spending of $100 million on a fancy new crap plant.

How many teachers could be hired with that same $100 million that Gerratana supports flushing down the toilet on a fancy new crap plant?

"The schools spent about $118 million a year, with a large part of that coming from state or federal aid. The council wanted to increase the city's contribution to the budget last year, but Mayor Timothy Stewart refused, saying taxes were already increasing too fast."

The quoted statement above is from Don Stacom's Courant article (2/13/11) and is incorrect. To say that, "The Council wanted to increase..." is just dead wrong. The truth is, a couple of Council DEMOCRATS wanted to increase the funding to the BOE, not the entire Council.

All those who attended the debate know full well that Gerratana is out of touch with what is going on in the public schools and in the state as well. All she did was to talk about what happened in the Legislature when she was there, ten years ago.

You hit the nail on the head when you say to ask her to leave now.

She will be nothing but a hindrance if she is allowed to stay.

How can she refuse to go. I don't know her contract but this deal would be like a for month vacation with pay.

Seems to me that Gerratana is putting her support for her fellow radical liberals (like the convicted felon in charge of the sewer commission) over the needs of the children when she supports spending $100 million for a new sewer plant while declaring there is no financial problem facing our schools?

How out of touch with reality can one person possibly be?

With regard to the quote above; anybody at the debate knows that Gerratano didn't even know that the Mattabassett Sewage Treatment Plant is just that. She incorrectly referred to it as a "water treatment plant!" How would you like to get your drinking water there?
