A Sad Moment in the Council Chambers

                                    FRANKSMITHSAYSNB EDITORIAL:

A very sad moment during the public participation occurred when an elderly woman spoke about her leaving her former residence subsequent to selling her home. She came to New Britain and purchased her current residence for cash.

Indicating her current income of $656 per month wasn’t sufficient for her to maintain her tax payments claiming she no longer can claim that she owns this property because the city has placed a $5,000 tax lien.

With my being in attendance of this council meeting I personally found it very hard to get to sleep last evening thinking of her plight. Wondering why none of the council members present attempted to find a solution for her or arrange for some city agency to provide her with the apparent advice she desperately requires.

Hoping I will be able to sleep tonight but will our city Alderman?

The aldermen don't seem to care about anything but raising our taxes to fund more and more socialist programs and also doing everything in their power to discredit anything good that either the mayor or the 4 Republicans try to accomplish.

These immature radical socialists seem to think this is nothing but a game, but this woman's plight exemplifies that they are playing games with real people's lives and their actions do have consequences that impact many people's lives, especially when they raise taxes so high that people have to forfeit the homes they worked their entire lives to buy.

Since most of these loony Democrats don't even own a home, they don't seem to understand that process of working to pay for your home, especially since most of them live off the backs of the working class by sucking at the tit of the taxpayer.
I'm sure many of these Democrats are laughing their butts off at the plight of this poor woman because it is all just a joke where they do everything in their power to disrupt the process and screw with people's lives and livelihoods.

Way to go socialists!

I'll bet these Democrats slept better, even with a smirk on their faces, snug in their beds with the knowledge that one more person has been screwed out of their home because of their ever increasing taxes!

I give Ms. Martinez alot of credit for coming forward (needing translation) to speak in public and before the council. She was very nervous. After the meeting, I was told that she was put in touch with a tax relief person to work on her financial issues.

Of course, trying to live on just under $700.00 per month, if that number is correct, would not permit someone to undertake home ownership here in the US unfortunately.

What Ms. Martinez did do is expose how little many of our property owners have financially. Tax increases take food and medicine out of their mouths and that is a fact. While we continue to ask more and more from property owners through taxes we in many cases are taking from those who are un-employed and under-employed to pay for pay increases for those who are more than gainfully employed, this is a crime. Additionally, what percentage of our city employees, city side or education side actually live in and contribute to our tax base? Not enough.

How we arrive at fiscal responsiblity to all people is still a looming question. Maybe the answer will come from Wisconsin
with the stop to collective bargaining. The other side of fiscal responsibility is property tax reform. Poor inner cities like New Britain should not continue to shoulder all the social demands of surrounding towns. Inner cities support the needy on the backs of the least capable.

As I understand her plight, she did recently moved here from Puerto Rico where she did own her own home.

Possibly the fact that she would have to pay taxes was a total surprise to her, because there are no taxes in Puerto Rico.

All local government services are provided for free by the US Federal Government, so they have no property taxes, no sales taxes, no income taxes to pay.

It sounds like the utopia that so many socialists are always seeking!

Frank:

How do you feel about those in the audience who were there to continue to bad-mouth our Police Chief and our Animal Control Officer, especially those from out of town? Do you think they gave a rat's a#s about her problems? NO! They care about dogs! And Frank' what could you offer to that women?

Like most whiners and complainers these mushbrains have no plan past criticism of those who do rather than watch. Many of them have never accomplished anything in their entire lives other than useless agitation.
