New Britain man, Mariano Cardoso, - an illegal alien

FRANKSMITHSAYSNB EDITORIAL:

Helen Ubinas’ article in the Sunday (5/29/11) Courant, “ANOTHER DREAM IN YOUNG MAN’S REACH” is, at first glance, a heartwarming story about a New Britain man, Mariano Cardoso, - an illegal alien – who graduated from Capital Community College last Thursday. A glance at the Courant photo accompanying the article possibly tells a different story. Having been in America illegally over twenty years since he was brought here when only 22 months old, Immigration agents accidentally caught up with him this year. He was scheduled to be deported but many came to his rescue and lobbied for a stay to his deportation; it was granted. Happy days for Mr. Cardoso. The Courant photo shows Mr. Cardoso be congratulated by a friend; also in the photo is a full view of Cardoso’s mortarboard that was decorated with Mexican Flag stickers and a miniature Mexican Flag attached to one edge. No American Flag in view. This article in Sunday’s Courant was printed on the weekend when America celebrates the holiday - Memorial Day - when it honors all those that have served in our Armed Forces to preserve the Freedoms we enjoy here in our country. Memorial Day is all about American Patriotism. Mr. Cardoso chose to honor Mexico instead of America ; this after Americans stood up for him.
I asked many friends, attorneys, etc. why they though someone would be here over twenty years and not try to attain citizenship. Perhaps the most plausible response I received came from a columnist from an out of town newspaper, he wrote :
“I imagine that Cardoso didn't apply for U.S. Citizenship for two reasons. First, for many years he didn't realize that he was in the country illegally. And second, when he did realize it, he probably figured that -- correctly, I think -- that his illegal entry precluded any normal application. I can't fault him for that.
I do fault him for being anything less than apologetic and for wearing Mexican flags on his graduate's cap after making such a fuss about his supposedly wanting to stay in the United States and become an American.”
This is about the same as I was thinking but was unable to express it without fear of being “anti something.” Once again, America gets kicked in the teeth by someone who Ubinas describes as, “ ANOTHER DREAM IN YOUNG MAN’S REACH.” Some dream! Reading Ubinas’ article on Memorial Day weekend made me angry that Cardoso does not appreciate America for him.
Fortunately, a beautiful concert on CPTV, celebrating America’s true patriotism lifted my spirits.

A happy Memorial day to all the families that lost loved ones in battle.

You had Comrade Dan and Dick Blumenthal pull out all the stops so that this criminal illegal alien can continue to steel from hard working Americans by illegally receiving benefits like a state funded education.

In my opinion, Mr. Cardozo belongs in prison!

In Mexico, simply waving the flag of another nation is cause enough to be thrown in prison, and protesting an action of the government by a Mexican citizen is cause to be imprisoned.

Additionally, the penalty for being caught illegally in Mexico is 2 years in prison for the first offense and 10 years in prison for a subsequent offense.

Why shouldn't we be treating these Mexicans the same way an American would be treated in their country--2 years hard labor for the first offense, and I guarantee you there are no color TV's or conjugal visits in any Mexican prison.

How many American soldiers and law enforcement officers have died battling with these criminal illegal aliens?

This deal is an insult to every American soldier and law enforcement office in the nation.

I don't understand why schools aren't requiring everyone to prove they are either a citizen or legal alien before they can register for class? Our tax dollars are paying for educating someone who could never legally get a job in this country because the employer will be committing a federal crime by hiring him. The only way he can use this new diploma legally is to go back to Mexico for a job, so are we now paying to train the Mexican population?

is there any wonder why our state is broke?

Just one more example of how Democrats are intentionally destroying our country.

A country that can not control its own borders can never be safe. That would be like not having any doors on your house and expecting to be safe while you sleep.

Vago go home!

Even with college degrees, the young illegals can’t legally be employed, and as opponents of the legislation noted, every illegal admitted to a state college will crowd out a legal state resident.

Graduating the other night from Capital Community College in Hartford was the latest young illegal alien in Connecticut to get administrative exemption from immigration law, Mariano Cardoso of New Britain, for whom Governor Malloy and Sens. Joseph I. Lieberman and Richard Blumenthal intervened with the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency. Having insisted that he badly wants to make the United States his home, Cardoso decorated his graduate’s cap with Mexican flags.

Cardoso is being allowed to stay in the country temporarily in a sort of limbo on his promise of good behavior. But his getting a job would break the law again. Will ICE overlook that as well?

Being brought illegally to the U.S. at 22 months old, Mariano Cardoso had no say in the matter. He may have bee raised being told by his parents that the family was here legally. However, once he had found out the truth, he should have approached someone..a teacher, clergyman or someone in authority to see if he was able to apply for American citizenship.
His behavior at the commencement was deplorable by flaunting Mexican flags on his commencement garb. Nothing wrong in expressing pride in our ethnic heritage..The Irish celebrate St. Patrick's day, but they also are extremely proud of their American citizenship despite the discrimination they endured as legal immigrants in the early 1900's.
Mr. Cardoso owes us an apology for his behavior. After being raised in the United States since infancy, he should consider us his homeland, and apply for citizenship, and/or clemency. Shame on him and shame on his parents for their attitudes!

Too bad this criminal didn't choose to live in Danbury. Mayor Boughton would have had his police round him up and ship him out like all the others they deported, and rightfully so.
