This new Complex being proposed by Costco will generate a sum of $475, 000 per year in Tax Revenues.
They also said they will pay all cost associated with the changes to the Golf course and will provide a wider exit from route nine by adding another lane to this exit and adding another lane the inlet to route nine heading back to New Britain.
The sale price for the approximate 17 acres is being negotiated by the city council however, informed sources have estimated the purchase price at Four Million dollars.
This sounds like a very appreciative help to the taxpayers of the city as being a WIN WIN -- PROPOSAL BY THE COSTCO COMPANY.

I went to the meeting in favor of Costco's offer to bring jobs to New Britain. Many residents spoke about the enviroment and the animals and the wonderful park grounds. Then I listened to how the 475k in taxes this would produce equals 1000 houses in property tax revenue?
475K in property taxes also equals only 4 overpaid administrative positions on the city payroll, is it really worth going against Mr. Stanley's bequest and his last will and testament to keep 4 overpaid employees? We can make 475K a year by simply getting rid of a few positions and at the same time preserving our park land and honoring a "legal" document.
We are selling the city up the river. Yes we need to create jobs but at what expense? I appreciated Aldermen DeFronzo's points on this issue. It was a tough vote but this big box store in that location is not the answer.
The busway is a mistake too. I guess based on the votes, desperate times have called for desperate measures. Sad day in New Britain. We can all save money on passing on getting a will, they have no real meaning any longer.
Where is Tim O'Brien for mayor on this issue? This guy is always at everything public but has been missing of late? Must be waiting for the horse race to be over before he picks his horse. He has to be careful, he really needs his horse to come in.

Someone at the meeting commented on not wanting to live in an area like Manchester with all the big box stores. Had just been talking to my friend out there about this issue because the taxes on his 1500 sq ft home in Manchester on an average to small lot are $7,000 per year! So see how growth in the name of holding the line on taxes can get away from those that just keep spending away the money?
As a former resident of Manchester, where I was born and raised, I watched the commercial section develop up near the Buckland Hills Mall. In addition to bringing in a great amount of needed tax revenue it also provided countless jobs for local residents. Both of my sisters worked in retail establishments in the mall throughout high school which helped them pay for college. I myself worked as a sales associate for a few different employers in the same commercial development, as did many of my friends.
By developing the mall where they did Manchester was able to tie into major transportation routes as well as draw in business from neighboring communities. In many ways the addition of the mall allowed for further development of smaller business in Manchester's downtown sector, allowing downtown Manchester to maintain a feeling of small town America while giving the citizens access to large retailers as well.
Those who speak of Manchester as if it were nothing but strip malls and commercial sprawl obviously have never spent much time in the city. It is is similar to people who speak negatively of New Britain who have never seen all the wonderful assets the city has to offer. Unless you truly know a community is rather short sighted to go and make broad generalizations and accusations.
I was very surprised to hear that because of the zoing houses could be built on the golf course. Would a builder be willing to relocated the holes?
The Council's Sub-Zoning Committee passed the Costco plan with a 11-3 vote.

" The "why can't we do this and why can't we do that and why can't they put their store..... " people were out in force last night. Please, Costco examined all these alternatives, this has been said over and over, yet folks still say these things as though they are the first ones to come up with this thought. The there are the comments like one resident last night that said, " they could build a fly over (?0 to connect them directly to Pinnacle Heights, and one on The Herald on line said, they could have their own exit and entrance ramp from ( I 84?), etc. etc. Really? who's going to pay for that? And, how does anybody feel that the residents of Slater Rd. and adjacent streets would feel about a proposal to use land there?
Well at least people are THINKING; what might be a problem however, is that these same folks must think COSTCO is from Mars. Costco is successful not because they don't employ thinking people that are experts; after examining many alternatives (some in New Britain), Costco came up with their proposal, offered the proposal to Mayor Stewart and here we are. At only 13.4 sq. miles of property New Britain has little undeveloped land to offer to developers. One person said - Herald on line - why not just use unudsed acreage at SGC for the two holes? Question, where is that acreage.
Finally, we as a city can make proposals to Costco, in the end, Costco will choose where it wants to be.

If Costco were really run by thinking people, they would be looking to expand in any state but anti-business Connecticut. Any one of the remaining free states in America would certainly be better for their bottom line. Anywhere that is free from the communists that run this repressive state.

I can just imagine who is making the personal attacks for expressing a viewpoint different from yours. Hmmm short tempered, immature, one way or the highway. It's amazing anybody gets involved or stays involved in New Britain.
