The cries of the state police union will for the most part fall on deaf ears among the public because any town of any significance in Connecticut has its own police department, therefore, making the state police inconsequential to most Connecticut residents.
It's worse than that. We here in New Britain are paying the taxes to support our own police force, and then we are also paying the taxes to support all those towns who have no police force and receive their services free from the state. It is the ultimate in socialist planning. Be an irresponsible town and fail to provide for your own policing, and the state will do it for you--absolutely free (at least for that town because it is being done at the expense of the rest of us in the state who pay taxes)!

Very true. Who in New Britain would even notice if the state police were no longer there? Means nothing to us here in NB.
