Democratic Petition for Costco Information Causes Stir

Anonymous said...: When Mayor Tim Stewart asked if those involved in the Costco petition were serious, the Democrats on the NB Common Council still handed Mayor Stewart their petition on 08/10/11 asking for a meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 6 between Mayor Stewart, the Costco Corp. and the Planning and Zoning Commission of the Common Council to discuss all plans on the proposed Costco Project adjacent to the Target Store on Route 71 and Route 9.

Alderman Larry Hermanowski stated that citizens have been coming to Council hearings for the past few months talking about the Costco plans. And, for informational purposes at Zoning Hearing is it the Costco Plan A, B or C on west side or east side of Hartford Road.

Plan B on east side of Hartford Road will require cooperation between the City and town of Newington, as well as the State of Connecticut.

Mayor Stewart also stated that Costco is not going to spend money on design concept renderings on Plan B until the zone change from residential to business is approved by the Common Council.; August 11, 2011 at 10:59 AM
Lou Salvio said...: As is usual and has been for 8 yrs., for Council Democrats, another ridiculous obstructionist plot was put forward Wed. evening, this time, to block the COSTCO proposal. This plot along with the negation of the Aquinas proposal was simply another in a long series of obstructions by Council Democrats to deny any positive proposal put forward by Mayor Stewart. Deomcrats don't seem to care that all these obstructions mean less revenue for New Britain and less help for NB taxpayers.

Led by Ald. Hermanowski, a ridiculous petition was put forward by Democrats to compel COSTCO to come to an impromptu meeting of the Council PZ&H committee to show the alderman their plans for development. The Council has "questions" to ask. This is the Democrats usual M.O. They always have more questions - same as the Aquinas proposal. And then, none surface. Incidentally, none of this childish plan was mentioned at a Leadership Meeting in the Mayor's Office, Monday evening. In addition the move was again done to the exclusion of Council Republicans.

Council Democrats and most of the public don't seem to realize that this was not a Stewart proposal. COSTCO APPROACHED New Britain with a proposal and a "preliminary RENDERING" - not a plan - of their proposal. To begin the process, a zone change proposal was put before the Council and tabled by Democrats, why, "they have questions." YEAH, RIGHT! Earth to Democrats, COSTCO won't make an additional move without a show of good faith and a zone change.

In one of his usual rantings, and in a harsh tone Trueworthy accused Stewart and his administration of failing to do things properly (read, done illegally).
