Costco on Tuesday night 09/06/11 vowed to keep out of Stanley Park, but wants the Council to rezone land along Hartford Road to allow retail development, and also to authorize Mayor Timothy Stewart to sell part of the city-owned Stanley golf course to Costco.

This is a vastly different plan from what you proposed three months ago, council President Michael Trueworthy told Costco. I want you in town, I want the jobs, I want the tax base. Your Plan "B" is a win-win for the city.

Costco officials aren't stupid. If they wanted the old Walmart site in New Britain they would be building there. If Walmart didn't want it, why would Costco want it?

Costco doesn't wants to be in downtown New Britain, they want to be near the West Farms Mall. There isn't sufficient property in the Farmington section of Harford Road. Costco need a big parcel of land and this is really there only alternative in the high density retail corridor of West Farms Mall Retail Complex.

Retail in Downtown New Britain is dead, and this is the city's only option to generate this kind of revenue from a single project. Friends of Stanley Park won an important victory and preserved an amazing gift from a true American industrialist.

Without Stanley what would New Britain be today? Everyone wins-wins in the revised Costco Plan "B".

We can't wait until we can take that fast bus from Hartford to the Costco Store in New Britain!

I don't think that the Council Dems are finished with their delay tactics yet. Don't forget, Tim O'Brien has the support of the DTC and also of the majority of Council Dems.
Old "sweaty palms" will not be deterred.

If they are smart, they will not only stay out of Stanley Park, but will also stay out of New Britain.

Do they really think that if they get the zoning change at the next meeting it is over? Once they build the store, they need to understand they will be the target of one radical socialist protest after another until they do like Walmart did and flee this radical socialist town.

The Democrats will never stop picketing and protesting such a rich evil empire.

Trueworthy is a phony and a liar. The day after Costco met with the Council (9/6), Mike was in City Hall asking for a copy of the deed because, as The Herald reported, Trueworthy claims he still has thousands of questions.

Watch for it folks delays are coming. Trueworthy is an O'Brien supporter and O'Brien is anti Costco, ergo, so is Trueworthy.
If O'Brien wins the primary on Tuesday, watch for the delays. The Ds will delay the zone change, etc., hoping that O'Brien becomes Mayor. Then the current Catanzaro supporters on the Council will join forces with O'Brien and either try to make the deal with Costco themselves or chase Costco out of town as they have, others.
