New Britain To Explore Alternative To Costco Plan - Courant.com

Mayor Stewart is absolutely correct; COSTCO should not spend funds to produce expensive and detailed architectural drawings and building plans before there is a zone change for the Hartford Rd. portion of land they need.

Costco came to NB with a proposal and presented the proposal to the Mayor, the Parks Commission and to the Council. They wanted no tax abatements and would cover all building costs, fees, comply with all local and state traffic and road improvements, etc. Costco produced an artists rendering of their original proposal. Mayor Stewart has proposed a possible alternative that would not involve park land west of Hartford Rd. However, this would involve approvals from Newington and various state agencies. These approvals have been sought and are pending.

The first step would be a zone change by the City.
Without this first step, nothing else can happen. So why not at least do that?

Trueworthy and the other Council Dems say they need "more information" but they are not clear as to what they want. It's just the same delay tactic they have used for eight years. Don't forget, it's an election year. We'll see what happens on 9/6/11.

Hey Lou,

The plan is DEAD.

There won't be a Costco on public land.

The public doesn't want it and it seems as if the Council does not want it.

$40 says Lou can respond to the above post without resorting to name calling!!! LOL

FYI. I am pro costco.

I'm voting ROW B for the Republicans this year. I will not be voting For Mr. Salvio because I have grown tired of his angry and belittling tone towards others. Enough of this already. I want Republicans to serve but NOT JUST ANY Republican.

I'm voting for Lou. Do what you want. I'm sticking with him.

That being said I do not think he will win this time. I know a lot of conservatives that are tired of constant bluster.

Loose Cannon Louie!

The way to fix this is vote all Democrats out of office in November.

Of course any voter can vote his of her choice for any office. Salvio is running, At Large. Check the At Large candidates on Row A and pick your poison. Good Luck!

As for the following comment - "The plan is DEAD.

Some say that, " every man has his price (is for sale)." I never thought mine was this low.
But, consider the other candidates at large on the Dem slate - as one commenter said - then make your choice.
Re what people are and what they do, I like a saying that my nephew places on his
correspondence; "Be yourself, everyone else is taken!"

Predictably yours,

Lou Salvio

What kind of a dolt will not vote Republican because of Lou Salvio?

If we did not have a two party system, your taxes would be double.

Will you be happy with all socialists in office? Lou is a voice of reason trying to inform the rest of us as to what is happening. He has my vote and gratitude. The role that he has chosen has not been easy.

I am pro Costco for all the right reasons. New Britain has more park land per square foot than any city in America. Walk somewhere else.

Dolt is a word that I've only heard Salvio use. Sad he must defend himself anonymously.

The above poster is right. Lou is a loose cannon. I am for Costco because we need jobs. I agree with Lou on many issues. His temperament is not suitable for public office. This is clear. Even his friends say this. Just not to his face.

First. Unfortunately, the commenter above thinks all people who read this blog have a limited vocabulary. Second. This same commenter missed the fact that I sign my posts. If you wish to speak to somebody else's "temperament", stop hiding behind "Anonymous" and call me, we'll talk about yours and those of all the other cowards that use aliases. I'm in the "book."

Dolt was my word. All well read persons would be able to identify its meaning.

The real solution for Costco is to move the store to a town run by Republicans.

New Britain is run by a republican. Just not an effective one.
