Some reactions to comments/assertions in the profiles of candidates for the upcoming municipal election in New Britain; the profiles were provided by and printed in the Herald. First of all, Thank You to the Herald for this service.
Reminders to the candidates and also for the readers of the Herald: Mayor Stewart is not seeking reelection; since the municipal election in 2003, the NB Common Council has owned a super majority in that body – never more than four Republicans; also, since 2003 NB’s state legislative delegation has been 100% Democrat; except for a state mandated revaluation of real properties a few years ago, real property taxes have gone down or remained steady; school buildings have been renovated as fast as is financially possible; a sixteen room addition to the high school now houses the Freshman Academy ; a new building for special needs children has been built; DiLoreto Magnet School will be expanded; CREC will build and operate a Health and Medical Careers Magnet School on Slater Rd.; Broad St. is undergoing a total reconstruction; a New Police Station is being built; many properties downtown and elsewhere in NB have been renovated by Jasko Dev. and are being rented ; NB has a new Downtown District Office and Artists’ Collaborative on West Main: Anvil Place next to City Hall is renovated and is being rented; Celebration/Rich Foods; Polam Credit Union; Farmington Bank; Willow St. Park; Total renovation of Walnut Hill Park, etc., etc. I could go on, but you get the picture.
Let’s check the other side of the ledger. Mayoral candidate Tim O’Brien, together with then Sen. Don DeFronzo squelched a $15 Million sale of unusable Water Dept. land to Tilcon. How does that look to you now taxpayers? Council Democrats scream about blighted properties yet, led by Tonilynn Collins, Mike Trueworthy and Dave De Fronzo, they torpedo the Aquinas proposal. How does that property look to you now? O’Brien talks about bringing $tens of millions in education funding – the other four reps claimed nothing – yet the state flat funds the city 4 years in a row. O’Brien says, I’ll be in Hartford at the Capitol fighting for NB. He must be using powder puff gloves because he’s done nothing for ten years but Democrats blame it all on Stewart.
Does everybody get the picture? It’s just like the national Democrats and Obama; blame everything that is wrong on Bush. How long can people continue to blame, blame blame? Wake up folks! It’s in your hands, now.

NEWINGTON'S MAUREEN KLETT...
...This should come as no surprise to citizens in New Britain, because Maureen Klett is already known as an anti-New Britain obstructionist against the Costco "B" Plan.
She has continuously used and abused her powers as a Newington Democrat At Large Councilwoman to oppose the Busway, as well. (Manipulating the Newington Council's agenda, things like that).
It appears clear to us New Britain folks that Ms. Klett doesn't want anyone from New Britain working in, or commuting through, "her town." Is it because she thinks the people in New Britain are in some way "beneath" her?
In the public participation segment of this past Wednesday (Oct. 12), one of the public speakers, name unknown, had many negative comments on New Britain--he insinuated New Britain is not much more than a slum, there is no economic development going on, amongst other negative comments.
This letter by Alderman Salvio, which describes many positive elements, is the perfect contradiction to all the negative comments by the aforementioned speaker. Is it possible this "gentlemen" was coached by someone representing the Democratic council, or by a Democratic candidate for public office?
From my viewpoint, Alderman Salvio's comments are true.
If people have such negative untrue opinions about the condition of our fair city, they should sell their homes and move out of town.
Newington has a history of rejecting programs that may reject New Britain residents moving there...Not too many years ago, "they" rejected a proposal to build Senior Housing on property located behind the Newington Senior Center, because, it is said, it may attract seniors from New Britain. Don't that beat all?
Have no fear, MS Klett...Costco will primarily be located in New Britain, with more taxes paid there than to Newingon.
Elect Tim O'Brien and many will sell their homes and move out of town if they financially can.
There is a huge percentage of city residents that always ask "what can the government do for me" the answer is always found in the Democratic party and then paid for by the taxpayer's upturned pockets.
Where does it end? Elect Tim O'Brien and there is no end to new taxes, increased taxes, a socialized economy. He is the problem at the state not the solution and he could be coming to your town and running your wallet here.
We can look to Maureen Klett and see the same problem. What can this sliver of state owned, land locked property do for Newington? And who cares about our neighbors in New Britain we will simply trash them and their Costco deal, it's all about what we can get out of this. Ms. Klett will raise expenses and cost state residents money in doing so but who cares about others?
Tim O'Brien will support Klett's challenge because he opposes Costco. I can't imagine him taking over the city budget process, the thought is absolutely frightening. Tim O'Brien in charge of the cities check book! In charge of your hard earned money. He has already shown us all what he thinks of our hard earned income when he voted to raise taxes and create new taxes at the state level. And it hit the poor and middle class and small business owners the hardest.

Jut put a radical socialist in the mayor's office and see what kind of a slum you can turn the city into. Just look at some of the cities run by Democrats and tell me you want your city to look like any of those cities:
Hartford
New Haven
Bridgeport
Chicago
Newark
Detroit
Jersey City
Trenton
and hundreds of other hell holes across the country totally destroyed at the hands of socialist Democrats!
Don't forget what happened to Wal-Mart's New Britain location after Tim O'Brien and his cohorts demonstrated at their store a few months back. Now it's just a vacant retail space, not serving customers and not contributing any service to the community.

O'Brien and company protested at Walmart dictating to the company that all their managers be Puerto Ricans, so the company told the socialist Democrats what to do with their city as they packed up and left--taking more than 150 jobs with them.
This is the kind of economic development you can expect with a radical socialist in the mayor's office--businesses fleeing you radicals.
Who needs jobs when O'Brien and his cronies are simply going to pay everyone to stay home and live free off the city and the state?
