Now that O'Brien is our new mayor, will Costco back off on building a store in New Britain? He was negative in his opinion on their opening in New Britain, as well as being partly responsible for WalMart closing it's New Britain store. Hopefully, he won't negate Mayor Stewart's efforts to improve New Britain's business environment.

Costco will be history?

Why?

Because Tim O'Brien is the (politician) as stated by WIKIPEDIA, the free encyclopedia.

Elected Mayor Tim O’Brien wasted no time in making several announcements. In addition to the O'Brien hiring freeze at NB City Hall, he’s calling for the resignation of every city board and commission member.

According to Phil Sherwood, who is on O'Brien's transition team, O'Brien's call for resignation is a common practice when a new mayor takes office.

The Anti-Business Team of Three?

Why the future of New Britain is at stake here?

We shudder to think about an Administration led by the O'Brien/Sherwood/Lopes/ triumvirate of three men, jointly governing a realm with the anti-business welfare culture associated with the O'Brien's baggage of government

The NB voters have made it clear that they want a totally socialist society where no one ever has to do a day's work and everyone can live free off the government, but what happens once the mass exodus begins and the people who were once paying all the taxes for these lazy slobs all flee our new brand of socialism?

There will be no one left to pay for their socialist/communist utopia and the city and the state will collapse just like the communist utopia in the Soviet Union collapsed.

Communism has never worked anywhere in the world and it will not work here in New Britain either--no matter how much of a free ride O'Brien may promise you.

The new leader of the transparent government has made his first official edicts.

1.) Support the policy of a hiring freeze that the Stewart Administration has had in effect for 5 years.
2.) Show how political he is, all members of Boards and Commissions should resign. He obviously has not bothered to read the ordinances or charter. The insulting action by some Mayors prior to 2001 was to ask for resignations because the terms of office for Boards and Commissions were all over the place. However, in the Charter Revision of 2001 this was changed to have all terms run with the term of the Mayor unless the term was provided for in the Connecticut General Statutes. If the Board or Commission does not have a defined term in CGS then the Commissioners term expire on December 31st.

I am disgusted that this new administration does not have the common courtesy nor the political willpower to allow the many good commissioners to finish out until Dec 31st. I guess the new paranoid administration feels that these citizens will cause irreparable damage to the City of New Britain they have served.

It looks like the New Britain Zoning Board of Appeals and the New Britain City Plan Commission will be out of business-till January 1, 2012, etc. ?

In the state of Connecticut the Democrats (and unions) plow all their patronage jobs and campaign dollars into the large cities, along with entitlement programs and endless funding for education aid that never seems to work.

That is how they maintain political control of the cities, and thereby the state of Connecticut.

As long as the CT Democrats ensure that welfare, and food stamps, and the various "gimmee it because I'd rather not work" programs are readily available; they will always maintain their political power in New Britain.

The hinterlands, for the most part, still maintain the "if you want it, work for it" attitude.
