Mr. Trueworthy: why would you ever want a Council comprised solely of members of one party? The Council should be a balanced body where differing points of view are civilly discussed, not a rubber stamp committee. Until the day when every voter in this city is registered with the same party, the minority parties deserve representation, too. That comment was more telling than anything else you declared about the intent of this redistricting.
They want it to be all of one party so they can control the entire council and have more power to spend our money however they see fit--usually on radically extreme socialist causes.

The state elections enforcement commission announced that a $19,500 grant had been allocated to Democratic candidate for the 24th House district Rick Lopes. It's public campaign financing, and the Republican candidate, Peter C. Steele, was awarded a similar grant last week. This means that a special election, scheduled for January 10, 2012 can go froward. A third candidate, Thomas Bozek, a write-in, decided to opt out of public financing.
Hopefully they can split Ward 1 right in half and have the line travel right in between the two households of the sitting Republican council members. If it can be gerrymandered just right, we can make sure there will no longer be any republicans on the council for the next decade.

SOUNDS LIKE THE CIVIC TEACHER IS A SOCIALIST OR MAYBE A COMMUNIST.

Someone has to stand up against the spread of socialism.
