Gov. Dannel P. Malloy reacted coolly to New Haven Mayor John DeStefano's (D) plan to ask the Connecticut General Assembly to allow illegal immigrants who reside in the city of New Haven, CT to vote in New Haven's municipal elections.

"It's not an idea that I'm particularly comfortable with," said Gov. Malloy, a Democrat. "I think there are obligations that run with U.S. citizenship".

Are there not enough urgent and pressing New Haven city-wide issues to address like high crime and unemployment, high taxes, low test scores and low graduation rates, high anxiety and low morale, without expending energy, time and taxpayers’ dollars challenging the Constitution of the United States and State of Connecticut and its definition of American citizenship and voting rights?

Some of my New Haven friends can’t even get the correct information sent to them about the current property revaluation and now the mayor wants to focus on extending the franchise of voting to people who are not citizens of the United States!

The mayor may have made national news headlines with his stupid controversial voting suggestions, and to think that this character ran for Governor's office a few years ago?

New Haven Mayor DeStefano has announced plans “to lobby the state for a ‘resident voting rights’ bill that would allow any resident of New Haven—regardless of immigration status—to vote in municipal elections in New Haven. He said he’ll launch the effort during this upcoming legislative session, which runs from February to May, 2012”

The bill, Mr. DeStefano said, is about “how you define community, and how you define responsibility in community.”

This proposal for non-citizen voting by Mayor DeStefano (D) is truly indicative of how he is very limited mentally and does not grasp nor understand the basic concepts of constitutional government. His proposal has absolutely no chance of viability since it would require an amendment to the State Constitution and that is not going to happen. In reality this is nothing more than a silly and publicity grabbing attempt by a sleaze politico to appear influential.

Apparently our leaders are willing to turn over our state to people who don't even legally belong here solely for the hope that they will vote for Democrats to continue their free ride at our expense.
