just another example of how unions are destroying this country.

Unions make sure scumbag business owners who only care about profit don't pay workers slave wages or deny healthcare coverage or pull other shady tactics. Unions keep non-unionized workforces in check and keep them from screwing over the middle class. In fact, unions are the only thing maintaining a middle class in America. There is a war against labor in this country by a pack of ignorant hysterical sheep who constantly vote against their own self-interests.

I guess NB Civics Teacher wouldn't like the fact that I will only shop at non-union businesses like Walmart and Costco. I'll bet he must overpay for all his goods by only buying them at overpriced union stores?

I believe that any time a member of a union is laid off for lack of work because so many like myself will not ever do business with their company so long as it belongs to a union, that that is a time to celebrate.

I'd rather overpay for goods at honorable union establishments like stop-n-shop because I know that extra $ is going to workers earning a real living wage instead of some right wing capitalist pig in Arkansas when you go to Walmart.

I find I get much superior service at Big Y than I ever do at a union grocer because the union employees usually won't help you, because since they are in a union, they usually tell you it is simply not their job to help you. Union members seem to feel they are guaranteed their jobs no matter what and usually won't lift a finger to help customers, when non-union labor understands the need for their employer to make a profit in order to survive. I have had the experience at Big Y where the manager himself helped fill my order at the deli counter so that I wouldn't have to wait longer. If the manager at a union grocery store tried that, he would be faced with a grievance because cutting deli meats is bargaining unit work and the union couldn't give a damn about the customer. All they care about it protecting their forced dues so they can donate them to Democrats.

Of course the prices are much lower at the non-union stores too, but then again if I am shopping at Big Y, I am supporting a family from Somers, CT instead of giving my money to some big Boston corporation like you seem to be proud of. My money stays in Connecticut with the non-union employer!!!!

You apparently like to send your money out of state simply to support a union, so in my opinion it would be better for the Connecticut economy to shop at Big Y since their owners live in Connecticut and pay Connecticut taxes.

So I have a choice. I choose great customer service lower prices and supporting owners that are Connecticut residents and get the added benefit of not one cent of my money going to a union that I would never in 100 years ever belong to or agree with.

Even the federal government knows that stopping unions is a good thing, because donating to pass "right to work laws" and outlawing forced unionization is tax deductible!

80% of the US jobs come from small, non-union businesses. Employees are not forced to work at any of these companies. Union based company employees are forced to belong to a union and have their union dues confiscated legally. 40% of union employees vote republican yet 100% of their union's political contributions go to democrats.

Civics teacher. Have you worked in the private sector or do you teach based on your biased opinion that all business owners "screw (your word)" their workers?

Do you consider government employees that make over $100,000 per year the 1%?

Low wages are provided to (1) teenagers (2) the uneducated (3) people from obsolete industries (4) retired folks. Education is the key to middle class. The government monopoly on public education must be broken.

I personally know of 3 different families right here in town that home school their children simply to prevent them from being indoctrinated into socialism by union teachers.

Only 7% of the American workforce is unionized. Union membership is at a 70 year low in this country. If unions are so gosh darn wonderful, then why in states where there is freedom of choice, do employees almost never choose to join the union and why do people have to be forced by law to belong? If they are so wonderful, people should be lining up to join with laws forcing them to join against their will.

Working in a forced union state is like living in Hotel California. You can check out, but you can never leave.

I guess "civics" is code word for "liberalism" or "socialism?"

Civics teacher is obviously drinking the Obama Kool-aide! Government budgets increase annually because of union contracts and benefits even if no increases are given. Unions are the demise of this country and it's time people opened their eyes to that fact!Concessions to them are putting off increases???Their entitlement mentality is ruining this country and most communities will start to see this as state revenues continue to dry up.
