It was reported recently in the newspapers that a new state law took effect this past October; the law says that recruits attending NB's Police Academy will no longer be required to work on our police force for two years after graduation. Academy graduates are free now to sign up with the police departments of their choice. The grant received recently by the NB police department will cover the training of a limited number of recruits who will probably look for the best paying departments for employment. What happens if the grant is not renewed? ; the same thing that happens when education grants dry up, to wit, taxpayers foot the bill. As stated by Chief Gagliardi, this new regulation will severely limit NB's ability to keep Academy graduates in town and severely place a greater burden on NB taxpayers.
Supposedly, the NB police department is 24 officers "understaffed." While there is no hard and fast rule that says the NB must have 158 police officers, that is the number that is being used. Three times, former Mayor Stewart tried to reduce the department's budget allocation to reflect having a full complement of officers at, 140. The Democrat-controlled Council said NO! In the meantime and since he took office, Mayor O'Brien has instituted a hiring freeze, and soon after said the city will be working to bring the departing staff in up to 158. Makes sense? Not to many of us.
Now, who was a State Representative from NB when the proposed new state law was passed and voted in favor? If you guessed our illustrious Mayor O'Brien, you win the prize - higher taxes! O'Brien also voted for the Malloy Administration's largest tax increase in CT State history. Also, don't forget, O'Brien also promised more money for the education budget. Mr. O'Brien, I hope, is learning that amazingly, some questionable decisions one makes, e.g., like casting favorable votes that will affect your constituents adversely, come back and bite one in the derriere in the future.

Of course Lou some of the residents of the City of New Britain understand and comprehend exactly what you are relaying. On the flip side, the overwhelming majority of voters do not have a clue about what is going on around them and will not care until they get their new house, auto and business tax bills and renters get notice of a rental increase.
Then, they will all be crying and screaming.
What a mess in matter of only weeks. Does it surprise you?

You mean those evil rich property owners aren't going to pay the massive property tax increases needed to keep funding all this nonsense from their own pockets? Those evil rich people are going to make those poor tenants pay for it all?
Contrary to the belief of these radical loons, the money has to come from somewhere, so if a landlord has to pay thousands of dollars in fines to the city, it is the tenant who will be forced to pay for it in higher rent costs.
That's what you get when you elect someone who never worked in the private sector, never ran anything, and his only work history has been taking money from the taxpayers through one government job or another.
