PARK AND REC COMMISSION REVILES MYSTERY!

Mr. William Demaio executive Director of the Parks and Rec opened the meeting by apprising the commissioners of their roles as commissioners and the importance that their roll is for the benefit of the city with all the income the commission activities brings in for the city.

The Costco issue was discussed by Mr. Demaio pointing out that the loss of golf holes requiring three holes to be played twice presents a loss of any tournaments'having the desire to come to New Britain. Commissioner Dorsey pointed out that the plans of a tournament is never for one year but for two or more years so we stand to lose that income if we do not resolve the three hole replay.

During the discussion of the single irrigation vs. the double which has to be negotiated with the Costco.

Commissioner Plienes asked the commissioners of where did the 600 thousand dollars of tax income come from that was reported in the newspapers? No one offered an answer to his question however, the Building and Lot will bring a tax revenue of some $375,000 annually. And from all the reports made to the city Council additional revenues would be for the Inventories and Equipment taxes totaling an estimated gross income to the city of some $700,000.

The Newington and the DOT hurtles were also discussed.

Commissioner Dorsey moved to appoint a sub-committee of the commissioners for the purpose of attending all the negotiating meetings held by the Mayor's office with the Costco officials.

So the mystery continues on.

Somebody had better read the Charter. Commissions in New Britain lost their "power (s)" when the last charter revision took place. A subcommittee to be in negotiations with Costco ?? Really?? Is this just another example of O'Brien abdicating his responsibilities? Is this another place where members of the O'Brien "team" simply ignore the city's laws?

Which negotiations is Commissioner Dorsey talking about? I am surprised at this move to create this subcommittee. This folly and the City will lose big time. Where is Corporation Counsel John King and what is he doing these days?

Pleines also fancies himself some kind of architect, lawyer, civil engineer and whatever else his needs are at the moment. Commenter #2 is correct, Pleines doesn't belong anywhere near this issue.

Frank, I believe the nasty language in commenter #2's diatribe is unnecessary.

This administration will clearly do anything in their power to kill the Costco deal. These evil rich employers must be punished at all cost--especially when the cost is someone else's money other than there's.

Pat Dorsey ought to be ashamed of himself. He is nothing but a yes man for whatever administration is in place just so he can have bragging rights to be a Parks and Recreation Commmissioner.

How sad that you have nothing else in your life.

By the way, someone should check to see what freebies Bill DeMaio has given Dorsey over the years. He runs tournaments for St. Francis, Pope John Paul to name a few, and you can bet he's not paying full boat.

Where I come from, we have a word for people like Dorsey - WEASEL.

Why did you take down my comment Frank? I will not use the f word again sorry but these situations make my blood boil! Yes Pat the weasel does get freebies from the city and wanted to stay to keep the gifts coming.
These people cannot get involved with any negotiations as they have already been done. All this is is Bill DiMaio and John "I'm supposed to be retired" Napierz trying to flex their wings in this deal. They will screw it up and in the end the city will pay. The prudent thing to do is to back off until the property is secured and then sit down with COSTCO!
