A CPA spoke representing over 105 owners addressing tenant caused damages being accessed against the property owners as being unfair and many attendees echoed the same displeasure regarding the O'Brien new "anti-blight ordinance."
Amazingly, local newspaper articles have the Mayor claiming that the Alliance is "defending slumlords." And also charging "defending the worst of landlords."
Mr. Mayor the attendees objected to the increase of fines to $250/day/violation when the existing ordinance that you have replaced was sufficient to address the blighted problems within the city.
Could it be that you are trying to upbeat Mayor Stewart re-dressing of your original ordinance you had the common council pass while you were an Alderman because your plan was not workable?
The changes that were made by the Stewart administration to address any blighted violations did not need any changing.

O'Brien's ignorant statement clearly demonstrates his contempt for property owners.
Apparently, only those who own nothing, never worked a day in their lives, and who live completely free off the sweat and equity of those of us who pay taxes are the only people worthy of his respect.
The tenants causing the property to become blighted should be fined for the damage they created to cause the property to be damaged. These same tenants should be given a negative reference when the landlord is asked for references.

Very good point, pointing out how defective this new ordinance is.
Instead of punishing the poor property owner who in many cases is a victim to abuse by tenants who repeatedly damage his property, the ordinance should fine the tenants who damaged the owner's property in the first place.
What a total tool!
Give an exiting tenant a negative reference? Probably not. Good riddance to bad rubbish, most landlords pass the bad ones off smelling like a rose.
Private housing in New Britain has become the new project. Everybody always complained that the problem in New Britain was all the projects. Be careful what you wish for now the bad renters are all over the place.

Another liberal heard from Frank! Anyone that voted for this clown ought to bury their collective heads in the ground. It's almost like Mickey Mouse is in charge of the city. Can't make a decision without a committee to tell him what to decide. This is what happens when candidates make careers out of politics you end up with someone like O'Breien at the helm eventually. Sorry Tim this ship is already sinking!
